Great point. Also, @HockeyDad , you should check out the commendations of the trans soldiers currently suing for the right to serve. And the way Trump's lawyers are falling to pieces in court trying to find a legal defense. They've even accidentally used sources that go against their position . . . and admitted they hadn't actually read the research they were citing.

For the record, there is no such thing as a "right" to serve. What the trans soldiers are suing for is the privilege to serve, which is something the U.S. military denies to many Americans.

With cause to do so. There is no cause here. This is animus. No other group is denied right to serve based on such animus against them alone.

Again, there is no such thing as a "right" to serve. There is only a privilege, which is why, unlike rights, the government can and does grant and/or deny that privilege to many Americans.

Again, not when the only "justification" is animus. These people are being kicked out of the roles that they have been fulfilling faithfully based on animus alone. There is no justifying this, dude. It's just pure transphobia on the part of the administration.

Which is all irrelevant to the fact that there is no "right" to serve. There is only a privilege to serve.

If they can kick doors and send rounds downrange, and keep their head in the fight, I say let them serve.

That was rude and uncalled for. I did not say I couldn't find the same information elsewhere. I verified that the link in the OP was inaccessible unless you shared your personal email address with WAPO, or unless you pay for a subscription. That's what I found, and that's what I stated. I did not deserve to be called lazy.

Thanks, but I had already found the information from several other sources. I wasn't asking anyone to fix anything, just pointing out that the OP link was problematic.

Again, thanks, but seriously, when have I ever needed help finding information? I was imparting information, not seeking it.

It was kind of you to take the trouble, though. I'll remember that.

Bigotry in this case applies to people of color, and all women who served our country with distinction. Trump wants to devalue the contributions of anyone not white and male.

If that doesn't answer your question, perhaps you're fishing for a specific response in order to obtain a "gotcha" moment? Just wondering.

If I trust Trump's words after all the years of bee ess and nincompoopery, then I'd be a fool. Trump does not keep promises unless there's something in it for him. I lived in NYC for many years and knew him for the chump he is long before he ran for office.

I'm several years older than you. I grew up in the Los Angeles area, where multiculturalism was the norm rather than the exception. My father was a Texan and bigot. It took my bothers and I years to get the old man to view blacks and Hispanics as individuals.

As a female, I was subjected to a very high heap of gender double standards, and although progress has been made, those double standards still exist. It's the same for racism -- being accepted as valuable individuals is still a struggle.

Do you remember Sally Ride? She was our first female shuttle pilot. After her first trip into space, the media frenzy was all about her gender and the "breakthrough" she was seen to represent. After a boatload of questions about how it felt to be the first woman in space, she said " I'll be glad when it just doesn't matter."

    We aren't there yet.

Your "observation" is irrelevant to the situation. They are having their service removed due to animus.

Should they be valued MORE than white men?

Sorry thought I was giving you a good way to read those firewalled articles you were complaining about. I use it regularly. Won't try again.

Do you have anything constructive to add or just trolling?

Trolling? Dude. I was pointing out that YOU had nothing constructive to add. All you are doing is trying to rewrite what people are actually arguing for fake MAGA brownie points. You regularly misrepresent people's arguments, from what I can tell on at least a daily basis, and you are doing so again now.

You stand corrected - service is a privilege, not a right, as you erroneously claimed in #126 above, and Judge Reyes explicitly agreed with me on this in the Memorandum Opinion section of the injunction she issued Tuesday.

What do you think this is all about? It is the pages and displays which focus on the race or sex of the person being honored. We don't honor WHITE men because they are WHITE and MEN do we? Are there specific pages celebrating WHITES and point out where the graves of WHITES are located and special sections in the museum honoring WHITES and MEN?

To threaten to have you censored shows the weakness of his arguments. Your arguments prevail.

Really? It’s not celebrating accomplishments of public servants who happen not to be white men? I’m a white man, and that doesn’t upset me at all. Is there something I’m missing here?

I saw you move the goal posts the first time, so I'll remind you once again: Service is a privilege, not a right, as you ignorantly claimed in #126.
