COOL! I just found it ironic, well not really That they would pull one book down while their choice of theology is pretty entertaining in regards/comparison
doesn't matter, do they want that type of content in the schools or not? I get they want to make exceptions for books they like, but the law is the law my guess is they will revise the law to exclude religious books as it's ok if it's in a religious book... right?
I find it ironic states ban books for being sexually explicit but leave in a book that is sexually explicit because of its theology.
I can't speak for them. I have told you what they are planning to do though and that is trying to get The Bible unbanned.
One of them is fiction and the other is non fiction. Depends on what you want your children to learn.
I think the reason why the parent did this was to show the ridiculous of the law. Now we are seeing the argument of "ban these books that have vulgar content, but not these books" based on religious and political reasons. As I told another poster, if the decision is appealed and the law is overturned by the courts, then that would also mean all those other books that conservatives love to ban from multiculturalism to LGBTQ books to whatever will also not be banned,. And again, be careful what you wish for. That being said, there is a different argument altogether of allowing any religious books, but again, we have the same hypocrisy by so-called Christians who want the Bible in the school, but not the Book of Mormon or the Q'ran or other religious books. But this is a separate argument.
How about I don't want my kids exposed too young to all the nasty things in the Bible? See how this works?
I've got a feeling that this school district is only one of many to come where the Bible will be challenged for containing the exact same things social-conservatives are trying to get other books banned because of.
I can only speak for myself and not MAGA social-concervative. Using my default search engine I cannot find a link to "Timmy Has Two Moms" -- just other books with similar titles. So it is hard to comment. If a "two moms" book has detailed sexual content then is not appropriate for elementary school. Otherwise I would not support banning the book. So will you answer my question without a strawman fallacy. Is a book describing a circle [deleted] jerk appropriate for elementary school reading. Yes or No?
Was it that wacky Moses again? Guy wanders around the desert for a few days and all sorts of strange ideas get in his head....
Considering that at virtually every age in education, they teach children reading and writing and history, and science etc using brief essays, and stories, and with poems,or plays, even songs, I can't imagine how that is relevant! I have never heard of a parent expressing outrage because Little Susie was exposed to Goldlocks and the 3 Bears, or Charlottes Web, or was forced to read three paragraphs about how flowers grow or how the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock. It won't matter with the Bible sitting in the library stacks, because they are pretty much precluded from actively 'teaching it' as a lesson plan in a grade school. That involves an authority figure appearing to endorse its contents and that will get a school in hot water .
Seems like you're trying to play "gotcha" here. What specific title are you referring to? What is the context of the description you are referring to?
Considering that I was the one who originally came up with that hypothetical book title early in this thread, I wiil readily stipulate that this book that I invented has no 'circle jerk' or any other graphic sexual behavior. Its about a kid and his two moms making cookies, preparing dinner, one of them a nurse, going off to work, the other getting his bath ready, helping his pick out his clothes, brushing his teeth and tucking him into bed at night. The only PDA will be on page 4 with a peck on the cheek as one Mom kissing the other goodbye. There is your plotline! It sits right next to three other books in the series. My Mom and Dad, My Dad and Grandma, and My Mom and Kitty-cat.
Have you forgotten your own post #52? The title of the book YOU MENTIONED does not appear to exist. Me saying I cannot comment on a book that does not exists is hardly a "gotcha." Just a statement of fact. Go look at your own post #52 for the "context" and the title of the book. If you cannot remember your own posts, well that suggests a bot to me. lol
Strange. I didn’t notice you calling for just the offending portions to be altered out of the books being banned around the nation.
