The "meager $133, 000" purchase price, seems to be 3 times its value-- unless for some reason, on earlier forms, Thomas had lied about the value of the property. I will re-explain this, for you. That price was for the purchase of the parcel of land including the home in which Justice Thomas's mother still lives, by the way, quite possibly rent free, and two adjacent parcels that were later re-sold to a builder who was committed to improving the neighborhood. Crow invested another $36k in improvements in Mrs. Thomas house, including roof repairs and a garage. Now these three properties were owned equally by Thomas, his mother, and the estate of his deceased brother. Thomas had estimated the value of his share of these holdings, as $15k or less. That would make the total estimated value, $45k or less. So $133k, for a $45k property, is a pretty nice markup.
