Back a number of years Labor dropped the socialism clause from its objectives. Then it began the shift to the centre. It signalled that it was going to work with capitalism, not against it. And as a party it was successful in gaining and holding government. Of course this was before that bloody egotistical bomb-thrower Rudd. Labor will never go back to its socialist roots, not if it wants to govern. In that sense it is now a party of pragmatism. Hence the authority of the Right in the party. The Left is okay with being in opposition if it means policy purity, the Right wants Labor to have its hands on the levers of power. And frankly perhaps the Right have a point - you can't do much in opposition. But a bit policy principle with the pragmatism would be nice.

From the information in your posting #22, you voted for someone "you" knew was a liar; deceitful and dishonest. In your own words..."the best of the BAD bunch". If you know something is bad D.V, you don't accept it or facilitate it by voting for it.

When was the last time our elected officials (politicians) built anything in this country for the benefit of the Australians people? The Snowy Mountains Scheme between 1949 - 1974.

With every other major project, our tax money is given to private companies to build our highways and roads; ports; airports, who then either RENT these projects back to us at high costs, or keep charging us road tolls for maintenance FOREVER.

Post #22 mentions nothing about who I voted for or if they are a liar and that I knew they were.

Come on D.V, you are quibbling with semantics now, and I don't have time for that.

Well don't say "You know who I voted for" and don't call my local member a liar, you seem to have enough time for that.

The Abbott government is lead by a Britisher who refuses to give up that citizenship. Australians want to be lead by an Australian. Whatever Abbott says or does, in the back of peoples minds it remains a British citizen is not an Australian of heart and as such does not have the loyalty to Australia an Australian has for Australians!

The same applied to the ALP, who was lead by Julia Gillard, who was born in Wales. I strongly believe that any one NOT born in Australia should never legally be allowed to become our Prime Minister, because they are always going to have divided loyalties.

I knew you voted for a politician, and your posting #31 confirmed my suspicion. I'm suggesting its a very immature and naive attitude for an intelligent professional with your background to suggest that politicians "don't" lie and are not "deceitful". Surely by now with everything you have experienced, you understand and comprehend lying, deception and manipulation is the nature of the beast - politics.

Gillard gave up her British citizenship long before entering politics, she so loves being Australian. Abbotts Australian mother was so peeved that her son would not become an Australian citizen, she went about having him declared Australian when he was 23 years old. Abbott for his part refuses to denounce his British citizenship and enjoys the perks of being Prime Minister until someone takes him to the High Court to stop him. Its not that he doesn't know he cant be a member of Parliament with duel citizenship, and he fully utilises that until someone has the money to take him to the High Court, so he just keeps raking in the money, content in knowing that when the High Court is eventually filed all he has earnt remains his! Nasty piece of work is Abbott.

Why do you think the ALP/unions have not challenged Abbott in the high court?

I'll have a little speculation, they don't want another "Dismissal"

Ever consider the possibility the ALP/Unions have not challenged Abbott's British citizenship, because Gillard never legally gave up her British citizenship?

What does a "dismissal" have to do with the ALP doing the right thing by the Australian people under the legal terms of the Australian constitution? Seems to me they are seriously scared of something the LNP will say about the ALP, and this is stopping them from acting.

Does that answer your question? Why is ONLY Tony Abbott's record hidden and why only THIS YEAR. Something stinks.

Fair enough about Gillard. But something also "stinks" as to the real reasons WHY the ALP are not pursuing Abbott's legitimacy on behalf of the Australian people. There is obviously a lot more to this than the ALP not wanting another dismissal. The questions have to be asked as to what the LNP have over the ALP that is stopping them from pursing Abbott's legitimacy of citizenship in the high court.

As can be seen by the debate here, the "Gough dismissal" caused a political uprising and is still an issue of contention today. For them now to use some legal pedantics to defeat Abbott will give him the same status in Liberal eyes as Whitlam got in Labors eyes

Gillard's renunciation of British citizenship is on record. Renunciation is done by form.

Unless a miracle happens, he is gone. I think he is slowly getting the message that his spin and smoke and mirrors is just not being believed.

Labour to spend many thousands of dollars in the Supreme and High Court to rid Abbott, who is Labours greatest asset to winning the next election is akin to the allies not wishing to be rid of Hitler and his support for the allies ultimate victory.

So, within the ethics and morals of the ALP, the democracy and rights of the Australian citizens means NOTHING - as long as Abbott doesn't become a political martyr like Whitlam.

Bar, bar, bar, go the sheep. :deadhorse:

No I think it is that most people don't see it as an issue, it is a bit nit picky, it's not like he came from North Korea a few years ago. The only difference between him and the majority of Australians is only a few generations.

What you are saying, is that the ALP & Greens Parties will not legally uphold the democracy contained within the Australian constitution for the Australian people? If the Australian constitution is now something that can no longer be trusted to help and protect Australian citizens, and can be manipulated by politicians to help "their agendas; then what good is it?

It means its just another useless & worthless piece of paper that belongs in the bottom of a budgie cage.
