Well, it's totally not baseless. You not knowing about a particular incident or rather incidences, in this case, does not make a claim baseless. Instead of grandiose protestations why not first ask for citations or evidence?

For a start, the reason Ashkenazi would attempt to claim Sephardi origin would be simple to comprehend for some that knows more than a little about JewISH history or the history of the ISRAELITES. Namely, there is no direct link to Judah for Ashkenazi. Therefore they (the WJE) wholeheartedly rely on the Sephardi for that crucial link to the exile from Judah during the Roman occupation, in order to legitimise their (Ashkenazi) claim to lineal descent from the biblical ISRAELITES.

This is very common and I've studied psychology as well as history and geography and this phenomenon is extremely prevalent in ppl of european ancestry due to the horrific nature of the European colonisation of the south and their reluctance to engage in the attrocities their nation commited, particularly the trans Atlantic slave so called trade where black folk were deemed sub human by law, by the European/American regime in the americas

These are German ppl who have converted to Judaism and have absolutely no connection to the Iberian peninsula. even their customs are not recognized in scripture, their dress is that of polish traditional garb, not Hebrew. This is why their DNA does not match the original Jews of Ethiopia but more similar to Europe.

Currently there is no DNA proof that the WJE are the direct descendants of the biblical Jews. You will need to find another angle if you're going to convince serious scholars like myself.

There are lots of genetic studies showing a link between the male DNA of Ashkenazi Jews and Middle Eastern populations.
