There is a reason both democrats and republicans don't want to visit this issue. Fear of losing votes.

The vast majority of Americans support protecting the Dreamers, including a huge chunk of those who voted for Trump. Democrats are more than comfortable with the DACA issue. Republicans in contentious districts, not so much..........

The contentious issue is amnesty and unintended consequences. Giving a subset of illegal immigrants special treatment (as adults) and not encourage more illegals to try and take advantage of the law.

What useless drivel. Sure, an president can issue an executive order. That doesn't mean that the EO is constitutional does it? Your reliance on a friendly court to provide shade to your dear leader is kind of cute though. Obama said it was unconstitutional to do what he did. Are you arguing with his position here? Seems to me to be the case.

On the test in court, so what? If Trump, today, said he was going to cut corporate taxes to 15% today, and then expect congress to catch up to his EO, would you claim it was constitutional until a court said that it was not? Your position isn't serious.

Infectious disease concerns made our legislation in 1882. Literacy requirements for immigrants were included in the Immigration Act of 1917. What history of immigration law are you referring to.

Sigh.....an EO is in effect until a court says it isn't, OR Congress enacts legislation thereby taking care of the situation the EO was enacted for OR the next president issues an EO nullifying a previous president's EO.

Again, you are claiming Obama's EO was unconstitutional - show us the court ruling saying this was so......

One does not need a court to know the President cannot legislate by fiat.

Using your reasoning, courts don't matter and I assume you will take Trump to task for his unprecedented use of executive power to issue all of his EO's?

The reality tv performer opted to pander to his xenophobic cult, and pass the buck to a vehemently-impotent Republican-run Congress.

If they act, it'll probably be to round up nearly a million young people who grew up in America and know no other culture, who are our students, soldiers, productive members of our communities, and, since there is nowhere for them to go if driven out of America, intern them in camps - and try to foist it off as a 1940s Democratic solution.
Most Americans, in survey after survey, agree that Trump and the GOP-run Congress both stink. In this, the POTUS and the legislators are going head-to-head for the distinction.

We will see if he can beat the Obama turnover rate on EOs. More than any President the last 70 years.

Are you claiming Obama issued more EO's than any president in the last 70 years? Do you have any back up for this? I've attached a listing of presidents and their EO's and according to this info, would it surprise you to learn Obama issued fewer EO's than GW Bush, Clinton, GHW Bush (pro rated for single term), Reagan, Carter, Ford (pro rated) and so on?

Actually there is an opportunity for here. If Congress can work (long shot) on a bill to deal with the dreamers the may be able to stay legally. The President has given them the opportunity lets see what happens.

This is off-topic but, you raise a few questions here... Do you think the health care system in the US is good? I'll tell you why I think single payer is the only possible solution. Last time I drove through the midwest, I was struck by the fact that 90% of the people I saw were severely overweight and smoking, and every single one of them believes they are entitled to a $250,000.00 medical intervention when they start swirling the drain. Tell me how you think that's going to work with a broken system built of half-measures and for-profit markets. Hint: it doesn't.

What exactly do you propose for the dreamer who is now a vet after serving in the armed forces? The college grad at the top of her class? Seriously. Tell me exactly what you do with them.

How can you be so obtuse? Seriously. In your own words, why don't you describe what profiling is?

As a resident of Idaho, Butch Otter is right there with Dirk Kempthorne, slow dancing into the history books as a throwback to the worst kind of syrupy bullshit this country created in the last 100 years. Idaho, for being such an amazing place, has essentially cornered the market on disgusting regional politicians. Aaaaaand back to your regularly scheduled programming...

    I think we fundamentally agree.

We should not have illegal aliens serving in our military or attending our universities.

    All bullcrap.

It was an executive action by obama, not a law. In fact it completely violates current immigration law.
Trump is doing the right thing by forcing congress to act.

Im basically agreeing with you. Obamas executive action was a completely illegal violation of our current immigration law enacted by congress.

Yes, this is completely off topic. I will just say that those who want the government in control of a system that represents a fifth of the U.S. economy are seriously misguided. Hint: the government is not a wellspring of efficiency and innovation.
