What's wrong with appointing a replacement until the next election? Talk about wasted state resources. That is on par with the stupidity of the 50% margin required in Georgia to avoid a run off....

EDIT - Gave it a bit more thought..... special election if a senator dies within the first 4 years of her term, replacement if in the final 2 years...

Yes, it is a very bad thing. I am not an advocate of giant, ever growing, taxing and spending, ever regulating government that is too big to secede. The government will never be big enough or powerful enough for you. There in is out fundamental disagreement.
