U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, a centrist Democrat who was elected to the Senate in 1992 in the “Year of the Woman” and broke gender barriers throughout her long career in local and national politics, has died. She was 90.

Three people familiar with the situation confirmed her death to The Associated Press on Friday.

Well, that takes care of that situation....

RIP Senator. I hope her final couple of years don't detract from the true trailblazer she was...

    The nation mourns her passing.

In other news...How timely. Guess it's just in time to send Kamala packing back to the Senate....

Even if voters fail to do it, mother nature will do it for us. Get rid of the decript old fossils from the power of government. They are no longer the candidates you voted for 15 or 20 years ago. I fully believe every politician should retire by age 55, because it is at that point that your mental faculty begins to decline. This is along the age route for every other major industry in the United States, so it's not biased or unfair by any means. It's just realistic.

RIP to her, but just because people can live longer doesn't mean they can serve longer. Instead of the tragedy of them passing in office, please just vote out the old farts on the account that change is good. Both parties.

Well, that number is a little ridiculous, but your concept isn't entirely in left field...

    Nice post AN

Agree 1000% that we need either term limits, AND/OR, age limits.

I've never heard her described as a centrist before.

If voters want to elect an octogenarian to represent their state or district then they should be allowed to do so. Other than the addiction to power, which is troubling, I don't understand why anyone in their 70's or 80's wouldn't just want to be with friends and family. I feel that the power of the DC cesspool is just too strong to resist.

Feinstein was a good pubic servant until she got old. Yes, we need term limits.

The trouble is most voters are so badly informed that they barely know who their representatives are. When they get in the voting booth, they panic because they don’t know any names. Then they see a half way familiar one and vote for it. That is why candidates put up billboards with just their name on it. Name recognition is very important. That’s why incumbents are re-elected so frequently.

In other news, this might be bad news for Adam Schiff. Apparently there is a riff in the California Democrat Party. Schiff was hoping Feinstein could hold on until the end of her term. That would have kept Newsom from appointing her successor.

The baby boomers, my generation, don’t want to give up power despite the fact that they might well be incapable of doing the job. This will sound crass, but in the old days, the Grim Reaper took care of the situation. Now medical science keeps them going. As the doctors told me about my mom, “We can treat the body but don’t know how to save the mind.”

Kamala would have to leave the vice presidency. She will never do that willingly having been so close the the brass ring.

Whomever Newsom appoints, you can bet that person will be beyond woke politically. Think AOC. That’s the mindset we will get.

its all about the power and the money

We have elected representatives who's yearly salary is $180K a year who become Multimillionaires in 2 terms in congress. THAT is why they stay ;)

Reminds me of an Eddie Murphy movie where he happens to have the same name of a dead congressman. "Vote of the name you know!"

Well, since we are going to veer off topic, that subsequently reminds me of when a Florida GOP Operative ran a fake candidate named Alex Rodriguez in South Florida to steal an election (spoiler alert - they did)
