No he's not. State law only prohibits weapons at meetings. This is an event, not a meeting.

Right there says banning weapons at events is optional, not state law.

 

To be honest, with the two republicans who were shot and killed recently and the increase of violent left radicals, this is the safest move.

You said De Santis was upholding state law. He isn't as there is no law prohibiting guests from bringing guns to his event.

What could possibly go wrong?
It has been asserted that "gun free zones" create scores of unarmed "soft targets".
"An armed society is a polite society".
"Good guys with guns will stop the bad guys".
This would be a way for them to put this theory to practice.
Why would 2nd amendment supporting conservatives compromise their principles by holding events in "gun free zones"?
Perhaps there is an element of hypocrisy here.
Or maybe it is just a matter of common sense.
