I'm not going to lie, I've had SC:BW and CC binges myself, never 18 hours but huge chunks of my days were spent with those two and ... no one may remember it but Total Annihilation. I also was into EverQuest back int he day... which came to be known by some as EverCrack.

But let's get real, lots of folks spend their entire Saturday watching college football or Sunday watching the NFL and have we ever heard anyone criticize those folks? What about the guy that starts tailgating at 9am for a 7:30pm game? I guess that's different, amirite?

That'd only be true if you work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week (112 hours a week) - most people don't. If I spend 8 hours a day working, and 8 hours a day sleeping, then I still have 8 hours a day left for free time - so I only spent 1/3rd of my day on work.

Why? Because one job is low skill and the person working it can easily be replaced, while the other both has higher wages and more security. I don't know about you, but I want my kids to have the kind of security that comes with a high skill position, and that's never mind the wages that come along with it.

If a person is playing 10 - 18 hours a day on video games; I'd venture to say that's a psychological addiction at that point.

Yeah, well I want my kid to be a nuclear physicist.

The difference b/w you and I is that I recognize that not everyone is gonna have a high paying job. It's not realistic. The low wage job is just as important as the high wage job.

This idea that one is greater then the other is drips with conceit, contempt, and spoiled brattiness. A very real psychological issue in this country. I don't blame folks for buying into it. It's part of the class warfare agenda.

The factory worker is needed just as much as anyone else. To say otherwise is delusional. I honestly don't care what jobs my kids end up with. I will push them when they need pushing, but at the end of the day, as long as they are thankful and happy, there is nothing better. We have become spoiled rotten brats when it comes to jobs. That is why we are seeking Mexican workers in this country, b/c the citizens here are lazy, spoiled rotten brats who are scared to get their hands dirty. And are terrified if they don't have all their little gizmos and gadgets hammy, the idea of working for a living is scary to them.

Awesome, hopefully he wants that too and I hope you encourage him to work towards that goal.

Yea, their both important, but one is much more easily replace and is subject to being lost to automation and offshoring.

Nope, just the harsh and ugly realities of the market and the fact that certain jobs are more secure than other is just a statement of unavoidable fact. Like it or not, that's how the world works.

Oh? Then how come so many of those jobs are being replaced by machines now? I want my kid to have a job machines can't do, so they never have to face that problem.
