Donald Trump ditches Obama-era restrictions on use of landmines, citing 'great power competition'

How long did it take to ban land mines? To me it felt like for ever !!!!
Under Obama the US finally banned the use of them (with exception of South Korea), only to be reinstalled under Trump. If there is a God, please make him take away that evil bastard.

But landmines are a complex issue - they often served to
keep warring parties separate. We might count the casualties
of land mines but no-one counts the benefits of less fighting
and less war casualties as a result of laying mines.

Well, if 1861 happened over again maybe the south could lay down belts of land mines
to keep the Yankees at bay. Sure, there would be casualties - farmers, hikers, a few
animals, maybe some tragic children events. But you might just have stopped 100,000
men throwing themselves at each other.
That's the PURPOSE of the land mine.
Compare the lives SAVED to the lives LOST in dealing with this complex issue.

Sorry but the whole "think of the children!!!!" mantra doesn't really work on me. I prefer logic over emotionalism. And sometimes logic dictates that if some one attempts doing something that they KNOW can kill you then it's your own damn fault that you were killed. Of course in this case that would apply to the parents, not the children. But the parents would still be the ones responsible for that child's death. No one elses.

I would say 95% of the American media is anti-Trump.
And more than half is anti-American.

Meanwhile in Iran a journalist got 38 years for reporting

And in Russia many a journalist has wound up dead or
missing. One even was murdered for reporting how
Russian "volunteers" were killed by American allies in

Landmines, yeah, almost as evil as appeasement...

 

These are "smart" land mines that will not work after 30 days. They can be set to be active for days or hours but no more than 30 days. They are only to be used in "exceptional" circumstances. The Secretary of Defense wants them to be in our tool kit, but he does not foresee them being used in either Iraq or Afghanistan.

 

Not true. Americans are criticized all the time. Particularly by "progressive" socialists and communists in our own country. And especially by countries like Russia, China, Iran etc etc. Americans simply don't care what other people from other countries think of us.

 

That's the luxury you get by being the good guy.
