    imo:
He saved himself slews of money that he most likely doesn't have and it would have been wasted since it's a pretty good deal.

'Trump co-defendant pleads guilty in Georgia election case'

'Scott Hall is the first person to plead guilty in the 19 defendant case'.

'Hall is the first defendant to enter a plea in the case.'

'Hall pleaded guilty to five counts of conspiracy to commit intentional interference with performance of an election.'

'Under the terms of an agreement with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' office, Hall pleaded guilty to five misdemeanor charges and will be sentenced to five years' probation, if he abides by the terms of the deal.'

"Under the terms of the plea deal, Hall will also have to write an apology letter to the state for his conduct, pay a $5,000 fine, serve 200 hours of community service and provide the DA's office with a recorded statement, which he has already done.'

You left out the biggest condition

    SNIP
“Do you understand that conditions of your probation in this sentence is that you testify truthfully at any further court proceedings to include trials of any co-defendants that is listed on the original indictment in which you were charged,” the DA's office asked Hall in a Friday afternoon hearing before Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee.

    “Yes, ma’am,” he responded.
    ENDSNIP

He was charged with items 32-37, which are also Sidney Powell counts from Coffee County. We'll likely see him at the first trial..

    EDIT - OOH.... here's a connection I didn't know about...

Georgia Bail Bondsman calling a somewhat high mucky muck in the DOJ??

'Fulton County DA subpoenas former NY police commissioner to testify at first trial'
    Source: CNN

'The Fulton County district attorney’s office has issued a subpoena to former New York Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik to testify in the first trial later this month in the case stemming from election subversion plots in Georgia, according to his lawyer.

But Kerik’s lawyer, Tim Parlatore, is demanding that his client be granted immunity in exchange for testifying, pointing out that prosecutors indicated in the indictment that Kerik was a “co-conspirator” in the case. While not named in the indictment, CNN previously reported that Kerik is co-conspirator No. 5.

The pushback from Kerik underscores the difficulties prosecutors face in a complex case where Trump and his allies face possible legal jeopardy in multiple jurisdictions, as prosecutions alleging election interference are being brought in the Peach State and against Trump in Washington, DC.'

'Clarence Thomas recuses himself as Supreme Court rejects ex-Trump lawyer John Eastman's appeal'
    Source: NBC News

    SUPREME COURT

'Thomas, who is under fire over claims of ethical lapses, was criticized for not recusing himself from a separate Jan. 6-related case because his wife, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, supported then-President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.'

    Oct. 2, 2023, 10:01 AM EDT / Updated Oct. 2, 2023, 10:18 AM EDT
    By Lawrence Hurley

WASHINGTON — Conservative Justice Clarence Thomas for the first time recused himself from a case involving the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of then-President Donald Trump as the Supreme Court on Monday rejected an appeal brought by former Trump legal adviser John Eastman.

Thomas, under fire over claims of ethical lapses, had participated last year when the court rejected Trump's bid to prevent White House documents from being handed over to the House committee investigating Jan. 6. ... Then, Thomas was the only justice to signal support for Trump's legal arguments.

This time, Thomas stepped aside in the case involving Eastman, who had served as a law clerk to the justice. As is typical for justices, Thomas did not explain why he recused himself.

Eastman's case also involved the Jan. 6 committee, centering on the former law professor's efforts to prevent his former employer, Chapman University, from handing over emails. ... Eastman had pushed the discredited argument that then-Vice President Mike Pence had the power to refuse to certify the 2020 presidential election results.

'Giuliani to lose 2nd attorney in Georgia, leaving him without local legal team'

    Source: ABC News

    October 4, 2023, 9:00 AM

A second lawyer for Rudy Giuliani is seeking to depart his legal team in Georgia, sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News, a move that would appear to leave the former New York City mayor without any local lawyers in the state.

A motion to withdraw has been submitted to the clerk, the sources said. A judge in the case has to sign off on the motion.

News of the move comes after several other former attorneys of the Trump ally have sued Giuliani for failure to pay his bills, including his longtime friend and attorney Bob Costello, who sued Giuliani for over $1 million in payments due to his firm.

Earlier, an additional lawyer for Giuliani in Georgia, David Wolfe, submitted his own motion to withdraw from his representation of Giuliani.'

That's kind of sad when one thinks about it. I have seen alcoholism ruin many people's lives, I used to own a bar, and, even though it is always their choice, it was sad to see some drink themselves into a big personal mess.

    Sad indeed all around.
Yet I doubt either of us was or will ever be a friend/acquaintance and enabler to a blatant lying drunk advisor to the POTUS who was able to use the media to spread their asinine conspiracies and vicious lies and are now being sued by private citizens, states and companies and lawyers.

Damn straight. Like Giuliani, I was "high functioning," but it is a minor miracle that I never hurt anyone and that my wife was willing to stay with me when I was hitting rock bottom. This Halloween I will have been sober for a year.

    I don't consider Giuliani a "high functioning" drinker/alkie.
He made a humiliating fool of himself every time he opened his mouth.
His actions and claims are well documented and will live as long as the internet does.

Much appreciated, man. And, boy howdy, you aren't wrong about the money! Jesus, I had no idea how much I was spending on booze until I quit. Plus, no more rosacea problems on the looks side, and I dropped a ton of weight. Most people (including my wife) can drink responsibly, and I'm glad they feel comfortable drinking around me even after I quit. I don't want to put my problems on them. I just know my weaknesses and need to act accordingly. What really got me was when Giuliani said something about being "high functioning." That was me. I held down a six figure job, etc. while drinking uncontrollably, and I held that same kind of excuse in my mentality.

    Keep it up!
Even if you trip up sometime, don't let that be a tipping point to head for rock bottom!
And congratulations for making good choices, and for having some caring and patient people around you!

Judge rejects Sidney Powell's request to dismiss charges
    Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution

'A Fulton County judge Thursday rejected attorney Sidney Powell’s request to dismiss charges against her alleging she tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

Powell asked Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee to dismiss racketeering and other conspiracy charges related to a breach of voter software in Coffee County in January 2021 because of prosecutorial misconduct. At a hearing Thursday, Powell attorney Brian Rafferty argued his client was not involved in the Coffee events and prosecutors may be hiding evidence that would exonerate her.

Deputy District Attorney Will Wooten said Rafferty offered no evidence of misconduct. He called the accusations “outrageous,” “not true,” “absurd” and “unsupported.” McAfee rejected Powell’s motion on procedural grounds. He said he had no authority to dismiss the charges at this stage of the case. And he said it should be up to a jury to determine Powell’s guilt or innocence. “We could sit here and have a preliminary trial that could last for weeks,” McAfee said. “But that’s not what we’re going to do.”

Other Powell motions to dismiss the charges are still pending. But Thursday’s ruling means Powell’s case is still headed for trial Oct. 20 alongside co-defendant Kenneth Chesebro, at least for now.'

Georgia Judge Absolutely Shreds Trump Co-Defendant's Latest Hail Mary
    Source: Daily Beast

'Attorney Kenneth Chesebro, alleged mastermind of the illegal “fake electors” plot launched by a frenzied Trump team in an attempt to keep the defeated former president in office, just cannot catch a break.

The Massachusetts-based lawyer was handed his latest loss in court on Friday, when Judge Scott McAfee handed down a blistering order denying an audacious attempt by Chesebro to get his indictment in the sprawling racketeering case dismissed outright due to an apparently trifling paperwork error. Chesebro’s attorney Scott Grubman filed a Hail Mary pass of a motion on Wednesday, claiming that Fulton County Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade, who was specially selected by District Attorney Fani Willis to help oversee the case, was late in submitting the appropriate paperwork necessary to formalize his appointment.

Citing an obscure section of the Official Georgia Code, the motion deemed Wade’s participation thus far in the case “void as a matter of law.” The indictment in Fulton County against Trump, Chesebro, and 17 other co-defendants over the hamfisted attempts to reverse Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results, was filed on Aug. 17. Wade, however, didn’t hand in his signed oath of Special Assistant District Attorney until Sept. 27, following an inquiry from Grubman.

“Nathan Wade, who has and continues to serve as lead counsel in this case—including during the presentment of the case to the criminal grand jury and at the time the underlying indictment was returned—was not an authorized public officer by Georgia law,” Chesebro’s motion states.

Speaking of shredding, Fani told Jim Jordan today what he could do with his request for information intended to attempt to protect the bossman

    SNIP
Fulton County District Attorney declined to provide House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan with any additional information about her investigation of former and his allies as well as any interactions with the Justice Department, according to a new letter obtained by CNN.

“A charitable explanation of your correspondence is that you are ignorant of the United States and Georgia Constitutions and codes,” Willis wrote in her letter to Jordan, an Ohio Republican, Wednesday.

“A more troubling explanation is that you are abusing your authority as Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary to attempt to obstruct and interfere with a Georgia criminal prosecution,” she added.

I would say more, but look at the choices!
There are some good Republican Representatives in the house, but yhey are staying away from the leadership positions because of the political climate on the GOP side right now. Thin margin of errors and a few MAGAs trying to force unrealistic measures.
Kind of sad when considering these are the people elected to get things accomplished and our country is suffering the consequences of GOP gridlock, even before factoring in the Dems.

Rudy's got almost as many problems as the Big Fat Guy these days

    SNIP
The judge presiding over the upcoming damages trial against said Friday she will tell jurors that the former Trump lawyer intentionally hid financial documents and other records in defiance of court orders.

In a five-page ruling, U.S. District Judge said the move was necessary given "Giuliani’s continued and flagrant disregard of this Court’s August 30 Order that he produce financial-related documents concerning his personal and his businesses’ past and present assets" and other pertinent information.

"The jury will be instructed that it must, when determining an appropriate sum of compensatory, presumed, and punitive damages, infer that defendant Giuliani was intentionally trying to hide relevant discovery about the Giuliani Businesses’ finances for the purpose of shielding his assets from discovery and artificially deflating his net worth," the judge wrote.
