I think if anyone wants to go through the process of the drugs and the surgery that it it should be done after years, not days or weeks, of psychological evaluation. And a knife should never touch a kid's body until they're at least 18. This switching sides is not reversible, people need to be absolutely sure of their decision and a 13 year old kid just can't do that which is why we have universally accepted laws that people must be of a certain age before they can do certain things.

No they don’t but they too can be swayed by prevailing medical beliefs I.e. the “fad” to do gender reassignment on babies born intersex. I see that as a far greater problem and yes, the child SHOULD be allowed to mature to the point where they can make an informed decision.

I do struggle a tad with the age limit.
First, 18 is an arbitrary number, if we are waiting to full cognitive ability that is around 23-25 in most people and some never get there.

Second, if all other avenues have been exhausted and surgical procedures are the only way to treat then it is the lesser of two evils.

The only reason I support hormone therapy with all of its negatives is because it has been shown to make surgery unnecessary or able to be prolonged until they are mature.

The issue is people that are against this want zero alternatives.

 

The really weird thing is that if this was 10 years ago the left and right would be arguing about adults doing this. The right has come a long way in modernizing their views but it is never enough for the left. NEVER enough. They bent the knee on the issue but NOT GOOD ENOUGH...now they want to do it to CHILDREN

I believe there are kids,teens and adults who truly are transgender and I don't see them as having a mental illness per say...family and society may put them on the path though.

Everyone agrees on age limits for certain things, but depending on the issue a lot of people differ on what the age should be. After being allowed to drink at 18, looking back I’m lucky to be alive, I mean real lucky. I think maybe that age limit should be revisited, but I’m sure a lot of people will disagree with me.
