if you decide to be a wearer of a home-made mask, you'd best educate yourself on the risks. If you get your hands on N95's, then toss them out after each day. It is not worth jeopardizing yourself for a false sense of security. Wash your hands frequently, don't rub your eyes and stop picking your nose.

You will be better off than those who think the home-made mask is protecting them. Please research "virus load" and you'll understand how silly is the notion that walking past someone will get you infected unless you're masked up.

Stop with the facts as you are destroying the illusion. Let's get back to important stuff like Trump ordered every American to drink Clorox and fish tank cleaner.

I hope you stay well and healthy. I know more younger people like yourself and younger end up hospitalized, even though the fatalities are mostly over 80 years old. Stay safe and isolate if that's your best judgment.

You haven't asked what I'm saying; you've been telling me what I think.

In Texas, the vast majority of positive cases have been clusters in nursing homes, prisons, and meat plants, with most deaths from nursing homes or those with in-home health/hospice care.

The reopening stages here are slow and thoughtful. The governor is allowing some businesses to reopen and reopening isn't mandatory. People can decide about their own business. Texas is more of a Libertarian state, not an authoritarian state, and most people here are showing common sense with the distancing and other recommendations.

Masks really don't protect the wearer all that much, their primary use is to protect others from the wearer.

That's false, welfare doesn't apply to those who are out of work, and moratorium only delays payments, the money is still owed and with no income many people will never catch even once they do get back to work, leaving them broke and homeless.

:aww:´ ~ This is one requirement of today's ultra-liberal "progressive" Democrat. They will also tell you why you think and give a condensed psychoanalysis of your personality defects. Ain't it wonderful ... :blownose:

Yes, I've researched the viral load theory from breathing your own germs, as well as other articles on masks before deciding to "volunteer" to wear one while shopping. I like my "fashion designer" Scott Shop Towel blue masks. I can make one "custom fitted" with tape in less than 5 minutes, keep 3 in my car to rotate, and throw them away without too much use.

I found two N95's in the garage a couple months ago (out of an original package of 3 from Lowes). I bought them several years ago for yard mowing, as the dust and pollens stirred up while mowing reek havoc on my allergies for almost a week. Anyway, I feel like I can't breath in an N-95...especially shoving a lawn mower around in the heat and sun. Not getting enough oxygen and just reinhaling my own CO2...ick. I know they are the only mask to protect germs from the outside getting through, but I feel like I'm suffocating! Can't wear one. I don't know how doctors and nurses stand them all day.

    Good tips you have. Thanks!

I think maybe what sec is referring to is the dangers of someone who is infected wearing a mask. I saw a video where the "expert" said that if you're infected, your body is trying to "shed", or get rid of the virus. Wearing a mask just makes you re-inhale a heavier load (or at least not reduce your load so you can heal) of the virus that your system is attempting to expel. Also, if the mask gets damp from your own breath, it actually would attract viral particles.

I'll trust that @sec will correct me if I'm wrong. I would never want to put words in someone else's mouth.

Regarding this thread's topic and the lady salon owner, Gov. Abbott did issue another Executive Order yesterday that no one can be jailed to disobeying a state order concerning Covid rules.

Vaccination started in the early 19th century and solely responsible for the eradication of smallpox today. At the time nearly 1/3 of people who were infected, died. Spreading incorrect information is worse that spreading none.

Moving the goal post I see. Let everyone die that cant handle it. That seem to be the intelligent way to approach an issue. /sarcasm

I assume you googled herd immunity and this was the best you could come up with.

No where did he recommend herd immunity! I watched the video and read all the content. In fact he cautioned not to spread the virus and try not to overwhelm the the medical community. He iterated it only takes one to take down entire businesses so extreme caution should be exercised.

"Osterholm said the only way the nation comes out on the other side of the COVID-19 pandemic is through a vaccine or when 60% of the population has been infected and survived to develop immunity." That would kill 10s of millions of people world wide. No one would recommend that.

"It's that herd immunity I have been referring to and of course the vaccine," said Osterholm. "It's just the nature of any virus that is new, because the only way to control it and successfully deal with it is through vaccination and/or the herd immunity."

so just fines? Otherwise, why have the order if not enforced, he may as well just rescind the order

my guess is it sounded better to issue a new order saying no jail time, vs saying I am ending the order jailing people for failing to follow my previous order

but do agree, no reason to jail people, the state is opening anyways, why not rescind the order at this point

our governor did not issue a stay at home order this entire time, the people and businesses did it voluntarily, and can open when they want, most not open yet, but some giving it a go

More so when people in prison are being released to prevent the spread of the virus.

And it is primarily Trumpers who refuse to wear masks and protect those around them.

    Shame on you

Dear AFM, it's pretty derned obvious at this point that you're prepared to think and say anything if it means warding of the terrifying prospect of a) the reality of how effective lockdown is, and b) America being revealed as a weak link in the First World chain.

I understand that, I really do - but it's like listening to a naked Emperor talk about his fine garments.
