But remember he can only fight the opponents and battles in front of him. Some of those battles would not have suited his style as a general, and Ike and co would not have selected him to such operations anyway. He was the master of fast open warfare with armor provided thrusts etc. Once they got out of the hedgerow country, that was pretty much what would have been needed all the way to Berlin.

Also remember the Russians designed and trained to fight exactly the battles they did (With the exception of Stalingrad) The Soviet generals where talented in using the Soviet forces strengths in battle doctrine and not letting the Germans decide what sort of battle to fight

I know, But I think Patton was an average general... he wasn´t a strategist like Einsenhower or Marshall... and although patton has much publicity and propaganda, for me the best american general in campaing was Omar Bradley... Patton

Well, I think with the exception of Moscow, too.. In Kurks the german planned the action, and russian accepted the wager...and Bragation was the great battle in june 1944 (bigger than Normandie).. Sometimes I think, Normandy did not serve to win the second world war, but to prevent the Russians arrived in Calais.

We would have run out of targets as we have every where else. And then the Russian winter would have taken over.

Thank God we didn't go with the Pattons out there and fight an unnecessary nuclear war.

I'm no authority on WW2, but have done some research as it pertained to my father's experience.

He was shot down and was the only survivor from his B-17. His plane was shot down by a ME-262. The pilot of that plane had over 200 kills on theEastern front. That many kills wasn't that unusual for German pilots on that front.

    FWIW regarding Russian air power.
