Genitalia vs Chromosomes: what makes you male of female?

Typically, we refer to the presence of a Y chromosome as "male", and the absence as "female". Sounds easy, no room for mistakes, straightforward, ... until it isn't.

About 1 in every 100 people are born with some form of Difference of Sex Development (DSD). This happens when the genitalia and the chromosomes don't correspond. These people are usually forced to make a choice: genitalia, or chromosomes?

It's not an easy choice. Especially because many, most of them on the right, demonize people who are FORCED to make this choice. Why do they think it's their fault?

Genetics makes the problem even more difficult. Because, even though we don't know exactly how, cell clusters associated with a person's gender determine behavior typically associated with males of females. However, virtually EVERYBODY has clusters of these cells that "should" correspond to the opposite sex. So it's quite frequent that a fully "endowed" male, can behave like a female. And vice versa.

So the probabilities are endless. Including people with DSD who don't identify with EITHER sex.

This is all biology and genetics. People are BORN this way. But none of this sits well with those who would prefer a simple binary world that conforms to the majority of the people. However, reality has different plans.

Parents find themselves in the predicament of having to make the choice of whether to raise their child as a male or a female. But it's not always clear what the right choice is. And, in many instances, when the child is old enough to make the choice on their own, it's too late and life-long psychological damage has set in.

In politics, the right has decided to CASTIGATE people's genetics. Just like in other times people were castigated for being black. But NONE of this is anybody's fault. And what is it to them anyway? Why do they feel this need to control other people's lives? If parents make the wrong decision... well.... that's what parent's do. But why is it any business of Fox News or Breitbart or Tucker... that they constantly demonize people who are born different than "the norm"?

 

And that represents a tiny fraction of the so-called transgenders. So if you're gender is not determined by your genitalia how come so many people seeking to change their gender want to alter their genitalia?

Nobody who believes that gender and genitals are separate can seem to answer that question.

And I don't for one second believe that about every one out of 100 people suffer from the condition described above

 

One possibility is because maybe they decided that it would be determined by their chromosomes instead.

Probably because they don't think it's any of their DAMN business. The more relevant question is, why is it that the right feels it's any of theirs?

 

Right not our business but they want us to spend a month celebrating it.

 

You failed to answer the question just like the rest of them. I'm not talking on an individual personal level.


And it becomes the business of society when they demand that society recognize their special ness
I'm asking the question in general because we are always told that your genitalia do not determine your gender yet so many people seeking to change their gender want to alter their genitalia so you explain to me how the hell that's not a contradiction?

Translation: You think just because you say you are not one sex then you aren't. This is not rocket science. 99.9% of us are born one sex or the other. Just saying we are something different doesn't make it so.

This is a common refrain that you hear from the left. The reality is that the trans issue at this point is a societal one, and as a societal issue, everyone has a right to ponder how they would respond and feel if this were a child, sibling etc.

The reality is that if some kid down the street wants to take puberty blockers, I couldn't care less, and I would not say a word to them about it. If however it were my child, I would have very strong opinions about how I would help them to work through these feelings, and it would very much be my business.

Context is everything, and as a societal issue, the context that would make this personal can theoretically apply to anyone. For you and other leftists to pretend like I and others that disagree with you do not have a right to have an opinion on this issue because it is none of my "DAMN business" is abject nonsense.

 

Or trans people have a mental shortcoming and crave any attention good or bad.

 

Right, the group that likes to parade around naked while blowing whistles and chanting we are coming for your children just want to be left alone.

I don't celebrate any of those stupid months, and there are many. And nobody has bothered me about it.

 

And public opinion used to say that the world was flat and that the sun revolved around the Earth.

Just because a number of people are wrong does not mean that that makes them right because so many wrong people believe in some garbage

What makes it a societal issue?

Correct! It's a PERSONAL issue between you and your family.

When you write two contradictory paragraphs, it's a good thing when one of them is correct.

 

Especially considering the ones like they have already done in other countries making it a crime to so-called misgender someone

 

Because when you're born with a penis that makes you a little boy and when you're born with a vagina it makes you a little girl.

 

It's categorically different. You're talking about reality. They're talking about how a person wants to live their life. It's logically obvious that most religions must be, on some level, incorrect, but people still have the right to live their lives according to them provided they don't interfere with others ability to do the same.

 

So your answer to the question "why is it any of your damn business?" is because you're paranoid. Got it!

 

Yes let's talk about reality.... Let's talk about the hard science of biology that says that females are the ones that give birth and have a vagina and a uterus and lactate and that males are the ones that have a penis and testicles and that they do not give birth but they inseminate the female without which the female cannot become pregnant.

But of course it's all flat earthism now

 

Government has no business controlling lives. Each party has their own brand of overreach. Unfortunately, these people are being exploited by politicians and even doctors.

 

But reality isn't the issue. The issue is how to treat/accomodate a medical condition. Fortunately for respecting religions, reality isn't the issue there either.
