Listening to this again: The Discovery of Global Warming by Spencer R. Weart (physicist & historian) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Discovery_of_Global_Warming https://hearthisidea.com/episodes/weart https://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog.php?content=reviews&isbn=9780674031890
I have to admit I just chuckle at these climate fear mongers. They think eliminating CO2 will "save the planet" but those with brains understand it would kill every living thing.
No dead bodies of old people in that picture. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/oct/07/england-excess-deaths-during-2022-heatwave Cherry picking data is so objective.
Yeah, with population growing and societies becoming more modern the earth may be warming by about 0.12 degrees/year.
I lived through it too. Provide a link to a "scientific consensus" in the 70s. If you look at "The Discovery of Global Warming" you will see how much controversy there was among Real Scientist from the late 50s to late 70s. In 1960 the Milankovitch Cycles as the cause of the Ice Ages was mostly doubted. The first ice cores were drilled in Greenland in 1959. I don't know how long the analysis of the core took. How powerful were the computers in 1959? How much did they cost? The current Milankovitch Cycle indicates that we should be declining into an Ice Age. But how difficult would it be to figure out that CO2 could overcome those cycles when it was still below 330 ppm. Oh, and there is a time delay between the CO2 level and the net effect. If we could reach Net Zero today it would still take 10 to 20 years for the global temperature to stabilize. Debate based on ridicule of anecdotal incidents is so intellectually impressive.
Yeah, the hottest period in recorded history...in the 1930's. So 90 years ago it was hotter than it is now. Are you now arguing for the coming Ice Age because you set that up nicely. In the 1930's....when CO2 levels were lower.
~ "Global Dumbing " is the current catastrophe we should worry about ... ~ Of course. That's why we're here .
You guys think it has never been hotter and CO2 causes global warming, the dust bowl says otherwise. I have the solution. Just bring back R12 refrigerant and hair spray...problem solved. That's what was causing "global cooling" in the '70's.
' ~ Somebody made money off of that nonsense — I wonder who .. ? { Likely most lived on Capitola Hill at the time } Anyway the hole in the ozone layer is still there. Some say it always was and that there are several. Maybe that's where aliens from outer space get in to visit us . ..
Where were their adult children? Why did they leave them in hot buildings without A/C? A couple of days in the low hundreds? Millions survive that every year.
It is revelations like this gem whereby the penny drops regarding the type of educated thinking we are dealing with in the climate change debate.
Life's natural processes, in the presence of adequate water and warmth, convert CO^2 into living organisms. He's right. There is not a single living cell that is not made up of carbon atoms that were once molecules of CO^2. The Doomsday Cult acts like CO^2 is death, when it's life. They may be educated, but, on this they are either ignorant and/or dishonest.
The actual amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is in the very lowest percent. It is a trace component and couldn't possibly be in anything even remotely approaching the major gases or we would all rapidly die from suffocation. 1,700 in W. Africa Killed by Poison Gas, Scientists Conclude - Los Angeles Times (latimes.com) The thing is that even a very small amount is more than quite enough to alter our climate in horrific ways and we continue to pour literally billions of tons into the atmosphere, more and more every year. But what the Hell do I know. I'm an over-educated elitist. I went to a library and actually read a book on the subject one time. Whereas all the conservatives had to spend their time hardscrabble at the Frat house, clipping coupons from Daddy's Oil Stocks and planning how to gangbang cheerleaders. Conservatives are a trip.
' To the PLANET yes, but we're talking about to EACH OTHER The Earth went through several millions of years when temperatures were much higher than they are now but it is highly unlikely that humanity would survive at all under those conditions. Certainly under nothing even close to the current conditions of comfort and prosperity
