Predictions and the right-wing never match. And yes, there was nobody more fearful of the will of the people in the last elections than Trump. And for good reasons.

You seem to think I'm a Trump fan. I'm not. It is good that he and all politicians fear the people.

Maybe it's a good thing that you haven't noticed, because it's "most people you know" that they are eyeing.

We don't need bullies in our lives. We don't need nuts who can go to the corner store, buy a gun and start shooting because they had a hard day.

BTW, I live in Florida. Where there are more gun dealers than schools. Where all you need to do to justify killing somebody is to claim you felt "intimidated". Works very well especially if the person you killed is black.

Not unlikely. But it doesn't matter because our love of guns is what fuels the gun industry worldwide. Our market is one of the major incentives to produce more guns for public use.

What people are you talking about that are bullies? The armed people I know are very polite. Certainly not nuts. We get a bunch of guys from the university here, some veterans, and others just students and some faculty, and we go shooting out by some gravel pits. Everyone has fun, everyone is respectful, everyone gets more proficient handling firearms and nobody gets hurt. Maybe its all the sun down there frying your brains, I dunno. But we like the way things work up here, so you can take your crazy authoritarian gun control nut ideas elsewhere.

The only "red flags" that should entail loss of the right to bear arms are ones that take that right from criminals, deranged or mentally disturbed people- people who constitute threats without just cause to others.
The fact such people exist and always will IS just cause for the average person to have a right to a gun, because it is the equivalent of the right to defend yourself and your family's lives against the thugs.

Guns HAVE NEVER BEEN THE THREAT- DANGEROUS PEOPLE ARE THE THREAT. We refuse to monitor and regulate most of them, however. Instead, we blame inanimate objects.
That is the weakness to our approach to control violence; we focus on the weapons and devices violent people may choose, instead of on the violent people and potentially dangerous ones.

Violence and murder including the largest mass murders in history preceded guns by thousands of years. They preceded bows and arrows and every weapon you can think of until you get back to the time when clubs, rocks and fists were the only weapons- and they were so utilized then since, at the beginning of human life and still are. PEOPLE are by far the most dangerous weapons..

Without violent people, there are no murder weapons. Fix that problem first and you have no fear of anything else except natural disasters.

I care more about the people fearing the people. Which is INSTIGATED by right-wing politicians. Fear-mongering has been a trademark by the right. And it has gotten us to the craziest point possible in which it has driven us to this mindless gun culture.

I have no idea what people you know or don't know. This debate is not about you. It's about the fear Americans feel, and that some think can be mitigated buying more and more guns. Pro-gun advocates are the ones with the most fear. And some of them come to a breaking point. That's when they come out shooting.

It’s usually projection. Gun banners know they are unstable and prone to violence (that’s part of their authoritarian nature) so don’t trust themselves and others like themselves with weapons. They are not self aware enough to realize they are projecting their instability onto others.

Lol, well shoot back. Oh wait, you can't. You don't have a gun. Sounds like you are the one that is afraid and are projecting it on everyone else.

The debate is not about me either. But I can understand why you first wanted to make it about you, and now about me. Because if it were about the actual subject, you would find yourself with no arguments.

And I think the newer generations (like the "Parkland" generation) are becoming aware of this. The NRA has lost much of its clout. And guns are no longer the single-issue policy that would ensure Republicans would win elections. All this hints, to me, that we will start seeing positive steps taken in the near future.

the “actual topic” is mental illness, and has zero to do with guns at all. But you would rather trample other peoples rights and insult other peoples ways of life and heritage than really fix things because you find guns scary.

while i agree that violent people are the problem, law abiding citizens can not just carry firearms and hope to be the fastest gun, and that criminals, deranged, and mentally disturbed people constitute many of those who are unfit, i might add a few more categories . should gang members be allowed to carry weapons?

Of course, until they commit a crime with it. Then they go to jail.

Democrats/leftists/liberals support gun control because they believe the state should have a monopoly on force - they know they plan to do things they know with get them shot.

Oh... so you didn't even read the title.

I understand why you keep wanting to change the subject. As for myself, I have decided to stay on topic. Any abnormal psychiatric conditions among gun advocates is a subject that might get me in trouble with the mods anyway. So... I'll pass.

    Your statement is false.
The ATF records 4045 FFL holders in the state of FL
    https://www.atf.gov/firearms/listin...te_month[value][month]=1&field_state_value=FL
The state of FL has 4269 schools.

Given that It took you a long time to research the validity of your arguments, you must have known this - and thus, you chose to make a false statement.
Why do you choose to make false statements?
    You statement is false.
    FL law (776.012 (2)) states:
A person is justified in using or threatening to use deadly force if he or she reasonably believes that using or threatening to use such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony. A person who uses or threatens to use deadly force in accordance with this subsection does not have a duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground if the person using or threatening to use the deadly force is not engaged in a criminal activity and is in a place where he or she has a right to be.

People who want gun control are people who avoid dealing with the much more relevant topic of mental illness. If there wasn’t mental illness there would be “crazies” shooting places up. You don’t even recognize the real problem. Talk about gun control has to be talk about mental illness. There is no other reason to talk about it.

    423,000,000 guns in the US.
About 10k are used to commit murder each year
About 24k are used to commit suicide each year.
At least 100k are used in self-defense each year
    Please:
    - Define the "problem" you see here.
    - Demonstrate that said "problem" actually exists,
    - Demonstrate the necessity for and efficacy of whatever solution you propose to address this "problem".

Current law forbids any person convicted of a felony from possessing a gun. Most likely, that would include most gang members. There are other factors that are similar; if you have ever been convicted of domestic violence (which doesn't even require actual physical violence) you don't clear the ATF check needed to buy a gun. There are no perfect rules, because there will always be people who disrespect others and ignore rules. The fact we can't do it perfectly is hardly a reason to do it wrong. We need to learn to do it better- and that means controlling the person with violent intent- which no gun ever made has ever had.

A judge I knew well once told me that the best regulator was the self-regulator- meaning the morals and character of the person limit what we are willing to do, and that is true. However, some people have none, or what they have is adjustable at will. He also said that if all of self-regulated to reasonable standards, he'd be out of a job.
The question is who we are going to make bear the burden of those who ignore laws- the victims, or the violent?
A peaceful person carrying a gun for self defense in not a threat to anyone who isn't attacking him.

I assure you, carrying a gun all the time is a pain in the ass. It's heavy, inconvenient, can't go everywhere (if a store prohibits carry on their property, the gun stays in the car or home) thus few carry guns for their egos. I only carry at times where I think risk of car-jacking, robbery or assault is high. However if you broke into my home, you would probably not walk out. I don't give criminals any slack or sympathy.

Oh, dear God! You went to all that trouble to research a minute point instead of using to research the actual points?

Not only that... you did it poorly. ATF has limited authority to oversee their licenses. It wouldn't surprise me if many of these gun dealerships don't have a license. I know there are more in my city's metropolitan area. And, as far as I understand, you don't need a license to sell guns in Florida. But even so, I know a fellow who owns five different gun stores in my county and the next.

I don't know if national gun stores require a license for each store. But it's a passing remark that is not worth the time to research but, even so, you researched very poorly.

As for the "Stand your Ground Law", it's a fact! It worked for George Zimmerman, and it keeps working especially well when the victim is black.

None of which had anything to do with my REAL point, which was everything before that.

You should learn that BTW stands for "By The way", which means that what follows is a passing irrelevant fun-fact.

If you have anything to say about the point I made in that post.... go ahead. Otherwise, not worth wasting any time at all. Use your time to research IMPORTANT things. Not trivia.

Mental illness + Fear mongering + Guns are a bad combination.

Until we have some sort of "machine" that detects and cures mental illness, and unless we can stop Republicans from catering to NRA fear-mongering, for their political benefit... our best bet is to deal with the third element in the equation.

After all, if we ever manage to invent that "machine", and Republicans stop relying on the NRA to get elected... at that point we won't even NEED guns. Win-win for everybody.... except the gun industry, of course.

So you want us to rely on the self-control, morals and characters of people who would invade the Capitol and crap on Nancy Pelosi's desk?

you seem to be the only one fear mongering. I’m not in the least bit afraid of being caught up in gun violence. If you live in such fear, maybe you should move to another state or something that isn’t the hellhole you seem to be living in. Just because your home sucks, don’t try to dictate how we live where I am from.
