Liberty Safe is going to get "Bud Lighted" bad over this.

And yes, the FBI had a warrant. What they didn't have was a court order for Liberty Safe Co. to hand over the pass code. The search warrant was another property, in another state.

I don't own a Liberty safe and because of this I will never own a Liberty safe.

Yep, hopefully that company gets zero support from now on. Astounding betrayal of trust.

Might be a good time to look for Liberty safes on the used market at bargain prices?

Wonder if their name and any identifying marks, model & serial numbers can be removed?

I certainly wouldn’t by new… just thinking out loud.

The law and order crowd doesn’t think a business has to comply with warrants or subpoenas?

It’s been said here that there was no court order for Liberty Safe Co. to hand over the codes. There would be no failure to comply as you’re suggesting.

That’s strange seeing that everywhere I have read including the press statement by Liberty Safes have said that there was a search warrant.

    https://thefederalist.com/2023/09/0...mers-gun-safe-contents-without-a-court-order/

Can you show evidence that there wasn’t one because it will be the first one I have seen.

Of course they don’t. Republicans are above the law, didn’t you know?

Their party slogan of “law and order” seem to be based in the same sense as “family values” “ethics” or “morals”.

There was no subpoena and they weren't legally required to obey this warrant. Liberty Safe Co. should have questioned that.

Fair enough. But it’s not like they’d give up if they didn’t get the combo. Probably better that way than them destroying it to get in.

You obviously don't understand how search warrants work...lol.

The FBI does and they knew they couldn't use the search warrant to force Liberty safe to give up the pass code. The FBI broke the law.

So you don’t believe in cooperating with law enforcement?

They can't cut into the safe. That's destroying private property and the FBI doesn't have that authority.

As long as law enforcement isn't violating the law, of course.

Do you believe that law enforcement should abide by the letter of the law, no exceptions?

It was a voluntary compliance — are you saying that the FBI didn’t have the legal authority to access the contents of the safe after a legal raid of this guys home?

I will never understand how people want to protect criminals but I guess blind agenda does that.

NewsNation) — Liberty Safe is facing a backlash for complying with an FBI warrant and providing access to a safe owned by a man charged in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

They had a warrant for the premises, but that doesn't allow them to destroy the property.

And yet your post clearly demonstrated that you didn’t pay attention to the fact they were not required by any warrant to do what they did.

Liberty Safe said in a statement posted to X, the former Twitter: “Our company protocol is to provide access codes to law enforcement if a warrant grants them access to a property. After receiving the request, we received proof of the valid warrant, and only then did we provide them with an access code. Liberty Safe had no knowledge of any of the details surrounding the investigation at the time.”
