Nope, the end of Ramadan would be Eid ul-Fitr: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eid_ul-Fitr

Now Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha , which is an "important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son Ishmael (Isma'il) as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened to provide him with a sheep— to sacrifice instead" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eid_al-Adha

I'm not a Muslim but a Christian (and one of those weird vegetarians, who can't help but feeling a bit sorry for all Eid al-Adha sheep and Christmas geese :blushes:), but let me take the opportunity to wish all Muslim PF members a great holiday and good times with their friends and families.
    :)

Ummm...but Ishmael was not the one that went up the mountain with Abraham. He was off in the wilds with his mother Hagar.
    Gen. chapters 17, 21, 22

Ishmael is after the type of Adam, and Isaac is after the type of Christ.

Muslims beleive that the decendents of Isaac corrupted the scripture.

According to Quran it was Ishmael.

Just how much does the Quran and Torah differ in the early stories like that?

Quran says Ishmael (PBUH) was the child Abraham (PBUH) was going to sacrifice, however both Ishmael and Isaac (PBUT) were made into nations.

From Isaac (PBUH) came Judaism and Christianity.

From Ishmael (PBUH) came Islam and Arabia.

    Salam :)

The bible is simular.except that Ishmael was bannished by Abraham......
It says that Ishmael was given many nations after his bannishment at the hands of Abraham as repayment for the fact that he was robbed of his inheritence. It says that Sarah had no faith in God when he said she would become pregnant and forced Hagar to submit to Abraham. She planned on taking Ishmael as her own son, but began to hate and scorn both Hagar and Ishmael and whe became pregnant with Isaac. Hagar and Ishmael were banished and God promised that Ishmael's decendents would always outnumber those of his brother and that he would be the father of many more kingdoms.

The story does not quite make sense. You would think that Sarah's lack of faith would be punished in some way...but nope....

    After it happened?

They believe the same thing about Jesus. According to the Quran, Jesus was a prophet sent by God, but was not the Messiah. It says that the followers of Christ wrote false scripture.

I mean when did the followers of Christ change the text, supposedly. Those texts were there before Jesus was born, so it must have changed some time after that. Do you know when?

Being no expert on the Qu'ran I don't really know, but what I find even more fascinating than the differences between the Abrahamic religions is how much they have in common.

In this story - whether Abraham was willing to sacrifice Isaac or Ishmael - the common message seems to be that Abraham serves as a role-model in all three religions, because he was willing to give what was dearest to his heart to God when God asked him to.

That's not a celebration of Eid ul-Adha at all... That was just disgusting...

When we kill an animal to make it Halal first off we don't use baseball bats and beat it until it dies (very Haram).

Secondly those weren't Muslims beating the animal infact they were members of the US Army.

    Salam :)

Thirdly, the US Army does not discriminate against muslims. They are free to join the US Army.

Fourthly, despite the title, I very much doubt the guy with the bat is military because he had a full beard, and that is very much against regulations. I also doubt he was wearing a government issue baseball cap and loose fitting jeans.

Um they were white and the one holding what looked like a wire around the poor things neck had tattoos on his arm... Not that many white Muslims with tatoos on their arm in this world...

You are right, they didn't beat the animal. Instead they held the wire and laughed as they watched a helpless sheep get smashed on the head with a baseball bat.

Buy I guess because they only laughed and called the man a "p*ssy" because he couldn't kill it right away, they had no part in it.

Either way it was a disgusting act and not at all the way a true Muslim celebrates Eid ul-Adha or kills an animal to make it Halal.

You're trying to turn this thread into something else, there is already a thread started on this forum about this video.

    Salam

    Good question.

Though I doubt you'll get an answer other than that was the words of Allah that Gabriel descended with. On the other hand, you probably won't get another answer from the Judeo-Christian side that their text is also the words of God. So it's a tie.

Well, it's only the time of delivery that differs. In fact, if the Torah books are written by Moses and the Quran is written by God, one could ask: Who is older, Moses or God? ;)

Just to clear it up, the Torah and Gospel were revelations sent by God to the Prophets Moses and Jesus (PBUT) however according to the Quran it has been changed by man some time during the history, before Allah (SWT) sent the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
