there are two lineages in the Synoptic Gospels--One is for Joseph, who is from the line of David, and the other is for Mary (although Joseph is her representative--but her father is denoted in as father in law of Joseph ) Heli (which is a derivative of Joachim or the varient Eliacim). Also there are other sacred texts not deemed Sacred Scripture that attest to the same lineage through Joachim. However--I'm more convinced that it was through Jesus' earthy father that he is linked to David. Yes--he was--but he was not the son of the 1st wife--the wife of power. Hagar was an Egyptian maid and was a second wife. It was Sarai that pressed Abram to marry Hagar so as to bear an heir since she thought she was barren.
