Again. As per the schools own page detailing this event.

"Black Grad, as it is affectionately called, honors and celebrates Black-, African-, and African American-identifying students upon completion of their undergraduate, master’s, Ph.D., J.D., and professional degree programs from departments all over campus."

    You cannot hide from this.

Segregation based on race is bad and we were doing better as a society when we pivoted away from it.

Now are you asserting that only Black-, African-, and African American-identifying student are allowed into the program and attending the ceremony?

No. That was never the claim. You can't read.

Only BLACK STUDENTS will be celebrated at this event. Pay attention to the wording here. Whites can go and clap. But they will not be celebrated.

The OP claims that only black people were allowed to attend. White people were there. Try again

I have not seen anyone suggest that excluding non-black people would not be illegal.

My point in this thread is to point out the irony of conducting a segregated "Black Graduation" ceremony by people who claim to seek a colorblind society. There were no non-black graduates celebrated in this event, even though another poster said Berkely is a 95% non-black school.

Do you think a white African American Studies graduate would reasonably feel the "Black Graduation" ceremony would be inclusive for him, even though he could not be explicitly excluded? Further, do you think that holding segregated graduation ceremonies, even if they are voluntarily segregated as this one was, advances the noble goal of a colorblind society?

Where in your extract does it say that any white Africa American Studies students were not allowed to attend?

There are no non-black graduates in the procession, even though it would be unlikely that there were no AAS degrees awarded to non-blacks. I don't think anyone has argued that white people were not allowed to attend and spectate, but this ceremony is obviously not for them.

Ya. We will see this result in further divide, hate and segregation of society. The stats correlate with this.

    Is reading hard?

White people can attend and clap along like trained seals. But this event as clearly described is to celebrate ONLY for Black graduates from every program in the school that year.

    Try reading it slowly maybe?

It literally claims in the OP "blacks only graduation event." so the OP is saying that white people could not attend the event!

segregated events based on race is not beneficial towards society. Not in any way. It only degrades society. The more of them you have...

Were the professors "graduating" lol. Jesus Christ. I have quoted you all the very detailed and specific word from the school's own website. You can't escape it. They are only to celebrate Black grads at this event. No White grads.

You will see the odd White teacher or some White people in the audience even! But no White graduates. This event is not for them.

You should really ignore what is in your head and actually comprehend what you are reading. The OP wrote "blacks only graduation event". The OP did not write "black graduates only event". Do you see the difference?
