How is this allowed at a publicly funded School?

Odd name then for an event named and describe specifically for black graduates then huh?

Maybe you are not reading the description correctly? As everyone who describes and reports this event does so as "black only." Or "non white students". Either everyone talking about this event got it wrong, or your assumptions are incorrect.

    https://thepostmillennial.com/uc-be...d-graduation-ceremony-for-black-students-only

    https://www.merca20.com/uc-berkeleys-black-only-graduation-ceremony-sparks-debate/

    https://www.mrctv.org/blog/uc-berkley-hosted-another-black-graduation-and-it-gotinteresting

Can you give me an example then please of a white graduate that was celebrated at this event in the 10 years this event has been established? Should be rather easy for a ceremony open to everybody where less than 5% of the students at Berkley are black.

Surely for an event open for everybody regardless of race, there must be one?

And furthermore, please to direct me to the ceremony named "white graduates" as such since the name and description doesn't mean much of anything apparently with regards as to whom the ceremony is intended for.

Do "only white students" get a ceremony named specifically about them?

    :)

White men are not the ones being coddled and sold victimhood right now.

That's CRT. White men are the oppressors...

Oh, yes they are. BIG TIME. Personally I have never seen people in majority groups play the victim like some whites are doing right now, including here on this very board. Painting whites as victims is a big part of GOP strategy for 2024.

How White Victimhood Fuels Republican Politics
    https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-white-victimhood-fuels-republican-politics/
public opinion research shows that white Americans — and especially Republicans — see whites as victims of discrimination more than, say, Hispanic or Black Americans. According to a 2021 survey by the Pew Research Center, for example, only 17 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning Americans said there is “a lot” of discrimination against Black people in today’s society. That number rose to 26 percent when Republicans were asked whether they believed white people faced “a lot” of discrimination. And intense white racial resentment remains present both among Trump’s base and in our politics today. Case in point: Trump, who’s a (very, very early) favorite to win the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, is still hitting that same drum

Please point to me towards the white graduate ceremony as named as such..

One that declares it's specifically for white graduates...apart from the regular ceremony. Funded by the state

You know? Since we are such victims surely their is bound to be one.

To celebrate the achievement of black graduates. But the event is not limited to only black skin people.

    ...
From a Backyard Party to Zellerbach Hall
Today, Black Graduation ceremonies are more prevalent at universities nationwide, but this was not the case in the 1970s. According to 40 Years and Counting, a publication documenting the history of UC Berkeley’s Department of African American Studies, Black Grad originated as a departmental graduation in the late ‘70s. Hosted in the backyard of a faculty member, a small group of African American Studies graduates gathered together to celebrate their achievements. Since then, the event has evolved into a venerated Berkeley tradition honoring the historical significance of Black excellence in a predominantly white institution.

I gave you the purpose in response to another poster, but to your same question.

    To celebrate black graduates.
But neither the program nor the attendees are required to be black.

That is something that some white people seem to get wrong.

"To celebrate the achievement of black graduates."

You are not legally allowed to deny attendance based on race, but clearly as reported on by several news websites, this event is designed specifically to segregate black graduates. And it was funded by the State!

Because we must coddle black people! They are perpetual victims apparently and this is "good" segregation!

Where is anyone being denied attendance.
I saw nothing in the link I provided you from UC Berkley that limited attendance to any specific skin color.
Maybe I missed it and you can provide it in the UC Berkley write up where they limit to 1 and only 1 skin color.

So far, it's a made up assertion from you and a few others.

Post those legit sources. I gave you a direct link to UC Berkley. Are you ignoring what they say?

The segregation is in one's mind. Not in the UC Berkley program.

You can't deny anyone attendance based on race.

The school is 5 percent black students. That means there are a whole lot of not black students. Can you show me who all attends the "black graduation ceremony"? We should be seeing a large swath of non black students ya? It seems to be the case that everyone is taking the name and description of the event more seriously then you are.

Including the people who've created this event and the purpose as such.

Your claim is not about who attends.
Your claim is only blacks can attend. Which is patently wrong. And you know it because you can't provide evidence that other colors are excluded. You only ASSUME it.

Point me to one that is only for blacks, because the one in question was not.

You could organize one if its so important to you.

    How do you figure?

He has to assume it, otherwise his persecution complex doesn't work and he doesn't get to be outraged.

Blacks should not be able to succeed. A form of systemic racism.

They invited Ericka Huggins as their keynote speaker, a New Haven Black Panther Party founding member who was on a recording of a man they kidnapped and tortured until he confessed to being an FBI informant and then they killed him.

They refer to her as a "former political prisoner." Not allowing other races to attend is against the California state constitution because Democrats have repeatedly been unsuccessful in removing the amendment that banned discrimination. But, it seems they're doing everything in their power to make sure other people feel excluded from attending.

You are missing the point. You can't legally deny access based on race. You can't do that. However you acknowledge already that this is event that is to celebrate black student's graduating. It's in the name, it's in the description and if we lookin practice we can see that this is how it's being carried out.

It is an event that by design, segregates black students. You can claim that's not the case because legally a white person could attend the event, but then that's not the purpose of the event. The event is certainly not about celebrating white students. And further more, you can't point me towards a white graduation celebration...

You have no argument. This is segregation.

Blacks should be able to succeed without your need to coddle them.

    The one titled; Black Graduation?

UC Berkeley's Black Graduation: Celebrating community, culture, and achievement

    Let's look at how Berkely themselves describes this event;

    https://ls.berkeley.edu/news/uc-ber...celebrating-community-culture-and-achievement

"Black Grad, as it is affectionately called, honors and celebrates Black-, African-, and African American-identifying students upon completion of their undergraduate, master’s, Ph.D., J.D., and professional degree programs from departments all over campus. Black Grad is more than just a ceremony; it is a celebration of resilience, perseverance, and achievement. Grace Carroll, former director of African American Student Development at UC Berkeley, offered this perspective: “The celebration of the perseverance and achievement of Black students is critical to the well-being of our community. We know that because of the obstacles our young people face, the numbers graduating from college do not represent our true ability and potential. Black graduations provide empowerment to students and their families.”

I'm not seeing anywhere in that description of the event as being inclusive to all students who have studied specific programs. What I am reading is that this event SPECIFICALLY celebrates BLACK students. Hence...segregation.

If this were inclusive, you'd be able to show me multiple examples of white students being celebrated at this event for graduating. You can't show me this. You can't, because the purpose of the event is specifically to celebrate only BLACK students.

    Got anything else?

    Who's denied access. No one.
Celebrating something isn't denial of something else.

Because it doesn't use the word inclusive, you determine that to mean it excludes all but blacks?
That's a huge and wrong leap.

It is actually VERY specific as to whom this ceremony is for. So ya. This is a segregated event specifically tailored and created to celebrate specifically BLACK students. Based on it's description by the school and those who organize this event.

Show me the white students being celebrated at the "Black Graduation Ceremony".

Looks like the school ****ed over your argument based on their proud description of what is an event that segregates black students.

No, it's states to those in African American Studies Program. Which does not exclude anyone from that program.
If there are whites in that program, they are celebrated with every other color in the program.
