22's and 410's were our starter guns when we were coming up and I bagged many cans and bottles with them. From there we moved to a 12/16 gauge double barrel and after that on up to rifles and anything else you wanted to try. I never really liked the lever action .30-30s much (we have about 5 or so floating around but they are all the same to me so I don't know whose is whose anymore) so I migrated to the .30-06 pretty early in comparison to others in my family. I've shot lots of different type of guns, including handguns, but that one Remington shotgun and the semi-auto .30-06 were the only two guns I really ever had any attachment to. Also the only 2 where I am absolutely confident with every shot I take, possibly because I have used them more than any others. I also know when not to take a shot with them. I absolutely suck with handguns though. My baby sister, who has never killed anything in her life, is probably the best shot in my family when it it comes to those. We jokingly call her The Range Queen.

Many things, other than guns, can be used for defence.

Remember to take them all out about once a month and keep some oil on them. Few things make me sadder than rust on a firearm.

I'm a zero gun holder too. Well, I used to have two shotguns but (pardon the pun), I got shot of them. I have an air rifle kicking about somewhere, and that's it. If I get any inclination to shoot a gun, I just go clay pigeon shooting, £55 for 30 shots, that includes the clays and gun hire.

Humanity was defending itself with rocks against sabre tooth tigers long before guns were invented

I blame Dr Who for this belief that you can defend yourself sans guns

So if God forbid you found yourself in such a scenario, would you rather have a hockey puck or a gun to shoot back with? I take the gun all day

Yeah, but against an invading army. You can’t even be a thorn in their side without one

She was responding to a comment I made about your country being invaded. Let me know how big of a pan you plan on throwing at them

How many invading armies have you encountered, and more importantly, how many are you expecting to meet?

Realistically, do American gun owners believe America could get an invading army? I only ask because the days of muskets are long gone, technology has moved on.

Do you think armament has moved on but the people haven't?

No, and even if they did, very few think we would send untrained civilians to face the enemy.

The intent of the being able to bear arm was originally intended for citizens to bear the same sword and shield as the military and quotes prove that to be true. However, politicians have eroded that right to not be the same as originally intended. So yes we couldn’t be more than a thorn in the side of an invading force, but a thorn we most definitely would be. Even during World War Two Japanese generals were quoted as worrying about our right to bear with quotes such as “There will be a gun behind every blade of grass” and that stands true to today. They would earn every inch of an invasion on our soil with their blood not only from bullets of our military but from a good percentage of bullets from our citizenry as well.

The "there will be a gun behind every blade of grass” is a made-up claim. People repeat it to no end, but there is zero evidence any Jap ever said such thing, and nor did they have any plans to even invade and occupy the US mainland.

They did invade the United States. You may not call it the mainland but they did invade islands owned by the United States off of Alaska

Again, - they had no plans to ever try to invade and occupy the US mainland. Aleutian Islands were thousands of miles from mainland US, and far from even Alaska, which was not even a State at the time.

Don't worry, you will never have to defend the US from some imaginary landing force.

The U.S. Armed Forces do not protect the U.S., the citizens of the U.S. do.

Look at the two most recent examples - Afghanistan and the U.S.

The Afghanistan military received nearly a hundred billion dollars of U.S. weapons and Afghanistan fell so quickly the U.S. had to negotiate with the "enemies" in order get people out. However, this was expected. The Taliban, while despicable, were the recognized government of the people of Afghanistan prior to its overthrow by the U.S. and this recognition continued despite all of the weapons and people sent to Afghanistan to convince the people to submit.

On the other hand, Ukraine survived a massive attack from Russia with not even a billion dollars in U.S. weapons . . . and most of the initial fighting was done by the Territorial Defense forces. "Untrained civilians" quickly joined the ranks of the territorial defense forces and held off the trained Russian army. "untrained civilians" can most definitely fight against invading armies.

I know babies and children hate the mature people of many U.S. states having weapons. They are babies and children because they agree with their government that they are too immature to be able to bear arms. They think that weapons are too dangerous for them to handle and only trained personnel like the following are able to safely have them.

a couple were random drawings such as a sports banquet where you buy raffle tickets or put tickets say in a fish bowl-won a browning Citori at a Ruffed Grouse Society and Thompson Center 22 there as well. I won a Browning Hi Power at a league. I was the top finisher in the league that had 50 shooters so I got 50 raffle tickets-the guy who finished last got one and so forth. Then at a range I shoot at-they used to have a monthly poker shoot-they had a target with 52 small cards on it-for 2.50 you got five shots with the "gun of the month". I mainly did it to try guns but I won about 8 that way. Then there were another 5-6 that were prizes for winning tournaments

do you have any clue what a skilled hunter with a scoped 30-06 rifle can do? multiply that by a million. no, they won't stop the combined military forces of the Russians or the Chinese but the mayhem such civilians would cause makes things far easier for our organized armed forces to annihilate an invasion

I Just researched this and it seems there is no evidence of the quote like you said. So this may be “made-up”. However, even Russians have advised Americans to never give up guns based on their history of communist dictatorships
