Don't put words in my mouth again or I will notify the moderator.

Jesus said in his famous Sermon on the Mount-
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." - Mathew 5:38-42

That's the New Testament. New International Version in case you were wondering. Like I said elsewhere, God set the bar to unobtainable height. It's good to have goals though, even if I can't hit the mark every time.

I'm glad Jesus was more moral than your God. I was quoting the NIV as well, by the way. Why can't you address it?

    Thought I did.

This is a thread about how good and noble you are without God, not a thread about your percieved misdeeds by others.

So, what do you define as "good"? What are your principles? In other words, where do you place the bar?

I place my bar with basic compassion and reason. Unlike the God you are defending, I don't support murdering children. I also don't support slavery or killing people for blasphemy. The Bible says God supports those things.

okay, how do you define compassion?

How come you don't support slavery? It's good that you don't. Incidentally, I don't support slavery either. So we got common ground on this one. :)

I'm glad we both oppose the Bible's position on slavery! Compassion shouldn't have to be defined for an adult, though. Even young kids get it. Try thinking of treating others the way you would like to be treated.

Stop putting words in my mouth, I didn't oppose the bible's position on anything. You sure are hostile.

There are many slaves in America today, think sex trafficking and child sex trafficking.

Do these kids "get it"? Do you think these kids understand the inherent goodness of their godless adult owners?

Here is my definition of compassion- 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 -

"4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

So you don't oppose the Bible saying that God had commanded infanticide, slavery, etc? Really? Was it patient, kind, etc. for God to command the murder of children? Was that not delighting in evil but rejoicing in truth? Was that protecting? Smell like bull ****.

I'm responding to what you say, and although I've read the entire thread, I'm responding to your comments to me, and so far we've not seen to have gone any further then when you responded to my comment to another poster:

So I don't know why you would respond to this comment if you really want to talk about something else. If you can't understand the comment, and don't have anything to contribute, there is no requirement for you to keep posting. The fact that you got bogged down so easily shows this is not a subject for you.

I've asked you if you can think of anything that is required for being a good person beyond compassion and reason. You refused to answer. Thank you for another white flag, I guess. Your inability to respond shows that this is not a subject for you. Don't worry, I'm familiar with the act you are trying to pull. I've seen it before.

It will be cute to see you dodge again, though, so thanks for that ahead of time.

Did you ever find out what religion animals had to convert to in order to exhibit the empathy that they exhibit naturally? Still waiting on that one.

What the hell...what religion animals had to convert to...?

As someone who thinks that goodness is natural, how do you explain badness? Or do you not believe in it?

Yes. You implied compassion required religion. Hence the question.

Violating compassion is also natural. I was unaware that a human adult would need this explained to them, as with the above.

Could you source that "implication?" I'm quite curious.

    "Violating compassion"

I don't even know what that term means, particularly since I've not been talking about compassion.

    What did I say already?

As for your comment to Lil Mike, if not answering questions is some kind of white flag then you are flying white like a frigate ship

You've refused to actually address those verses at all. In any way. You obliquely said you agreed with them, and that was it.

You and Mike have steadfastly refused to answer my questions, so yeah, white flags all around. Congrats.

People can make whatever claims they wish about the benevolence of man and the lack of need in a belief of a higher power...but you cannot escape the factual reality that anyone making such claim makes it with a sociological foundation that is literally built on Judeo Christian values...or some other foundation of faith. Your challenge would be to live in a world where there was no foundation of good or evil, law and order, and still be someone that is by nature kind and benevolent.

Name one single moral position, aside from "Obey my God or die" that actually requires "Judeo Christian values" and can't be found outside Judeo Christian traditions. Just one. And no one who has read the Judeo Christian scriptures can honestly call them "kind and benevolent" without throwing up in their mouths.

I take it this is your version of throwing your hands up. I'm just curious why you said that I had implied that compassion required religion. Since I don't believe that I've mentioned religion at all in this thread, I'm curious where you are getting this?

It's ironic that you are accusing me of not reading the thread and then literally make up responses for me for you to argue with. If you could quote my implications I would appreciate it.

No, I did address the chapter you cited. I said two things. First, that 1 Samuel 15 is about judgment. Second, that God made man and man is God's to take.

Please stop mischaracterizing what I say. For a "good" person you don't strike me as being perfectly honest.

What if your farm was invaded by wild pigs? Would you not kill them all? Piglets, shoats, boars and sows?

Are you honestly saying that you don't understand that it is wrong to murder an entire town, including children and even killing their pets, all because of something that their ancestors did to your ancestors centuries ago? You are seriously going to claim you don't understand anything wrong with that?

I am saying I don't understand what God does. I used to think the same as you.
