I am now convinced that Trump's actions on January 6th were criminal

I've previously said on these forums many time that while I believe Trump failed his basic duty as an elected official of promoting the peaceful transition of power, his actions were not criminal. (To give you an idea of what I mean by promoting the peaceful transition of power, here are the televised concession speeches of every presidential election from 1960 to 2016
    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...election-concession-speech-since-1960.580856/ )

I still stand by my opinion that none of Trump's actions or words prior to the January 6th riots were criminal. However, now that we have verification that Trump did not want the rioting to stop, to the point that that he outright refused to take any action.. and that it was in fact Mike Pence who gave the call to send in the national guard.. I am now fully convinced that Trump's conduct during the riot was criminal

According to the police union, there were over 140 injured officers from the rioting, some of whom had permanent injuries, including an officer who lost an eye. Trump should be held liable for each and every one of those injuries that occurred from the point that he first refused to take action onward. By refusing to take any action while his staff and other officials pleaded with him to do so, he is complicit in the rioting. Now that we know that he wasn't just reluctant to take action, but that he never gave the call, he should be criminally charged. No whataboutisms can justify Trump's conduct, his behavior was criminal. Period

This January 6th thing is the biggest nothing-burger in the history of the United States. Considering there are more guns in the United States than there are people… that’s the biggest joke of an “insurrection” I’ve ever heard of. Following a guy with a bison hat into a government building to take selfies is hardly an “insurrection”. Let it go. Nothing is going to come from it. You aren’t going to score an election win with that garbage. Focus on the crumbling state of the country in regards to inflation, gas prices, shortages, the housing market, etc… Every ounce of that is a wreck.

Treason, he knowingly and with premeditation conspired to subvert the presidential election of 2020, to retain power for himself, using the full power of The Presidency of these United States to do it.

Trump called it before he even won the election. His adoring masses would still love him if he shot someone in cold blood in the middle of the street. We are seeing proof of this daily.

    Sad.

You mean the general that cares more about "white rage" and 31 flavors of perversion? What a joke he is making of our military

The primary people who convinced us wasn't Trump it was those who without any sense shame or common decency that have been attacking him from the moment he stepped of the elevator and have spent the last six years lying about everything.

Why did you expect the situation with Trump to be any different? Hasn't that been the case with partisan politics in recent history. I don't remember commentators on Foxnews giving Obama the benefit of the doubt when he took office. In his 8 years in office I doubt you can find much praise from Hannity or other host during that time. The only republican I remember offering Obama any praise was Chris Christie and he was attacked for it. Hillary was never even elected president and she has been attacked constantly. I don't recall seeing sane voices in right wing media saying let's give her a chance and see how she does as president before we judge her. I still see threads on the Clintons accusing them of nefarious things, even alluding to potential conspiracies in murder. I really believe that our society has become so tribal the days of let's give the person a chance and see how they do are long gone. From day 1 or even pre day one as you said when Trump came down the escalators people will attack the other party. It is not like we saw Tucker coming out and saying lets give Harris a chance to see how she does in her role as VP and then we can judge her after 6 months or something. People attacked her the moment she was announced as VP if not before.

The problem is the tribes do not even respect the politicians that try to work with the other party. Look at the left's attack on Manchin and Sinema. On the right you see the same thing with Cheney, Kinzinger and Romney. It is not like one side or the other can claim they are different. To steal a line from the Dark Knight "We get the politicians Americans deserve, but not the ones it needs right now.".

It is the elephant in the room and they could care less.

It is about hating the left, not loving their country. trump sells hate. trump sells fear.

The problem is that that's not how culpability works in a legal sense. https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/culpability The 1/6 commission could not establish links between the Trump WH and the rioters/protestors/'insurrectionists'. Without that link, even though he didn't make the call he wasn't anymore culpable for their actions then saying 'the devil made me do it'.

Personal responsibility, still exists. You could hand me a gun and tell me to shoot someone, I could not say in my legal defense "He made me shoot him".(And this hypothetical is actually more direct than the 1/6 incident). There's no evidence of Trump funds going to for example the proud boys or anything. There's no evidence of them talking about or carrying out the so-called insurrection. And so forth.

That's why this howling, at the time two years ago and even now today is as unsubstantial as it is insignificant. There wasn't an insurrection, Trump most likely won't be charged with a crime, if charged with one it will be an incredibly uphill battle to fight with even less evidence than the tax filing situation in NY.

It would appear that people's lust for seeing Trump in handcuffs is making them blind to irrational judgments.

Because he hates the right people
Trump's base are White Supremacists. The ONLY real function of government, in their view is to make the White Race Supreme over all others. If they do that EVERYTHING else can be forgiven and if they don't do that nothing else matters

The only person that has lied about EVERYTHING for the past six years (and his whole life, for that matter) is Donald Judas tRump.

But to your point he did do it without shame or common decency. And he's attacked anyone that's called him on it (well - ever) since he stepped off the escalator.

Surprised? I don't believe anything federal government tells me. I'll bet I am not alone in that position. But I certainly support the military.
