    You can suppose that all you want -- it remains only your supposition, and it requires you to speak to the motivations of people you do not know, something you cannot honestly do.

    I meant, what situation would cause the government to attempt a coup, in the full knowledge that such a thing would lead to disaster for the country, and for themselves?

    Elected officials who seek more power that the constitution allows, who then change the constitutions to give them that power, or simply ignore the constitution and exercise said power on their own.

    Rare is the despot that worries about the former, and allows for the possibility of the latter.
