They would kill because we would fight what got here. They would enslave just like our current regime does but with more restrictions.
The poor are enslaved are they not? Stuck in ghettos? The wealthy (not rich) are forced to pat or lose property are they not? Economic slavery makes da massa richer you know.
What we have is hardly economic slavery. To get back on topic, the entire Red Dawn scenario is about as realistic as Iron Sky.
Liberty or death. Tac nukes for naval assets and some MK 48s into one or two naval yards would suffice. No need for heavies unless they pushed the issue. Like you said it would never happen but if it did. Their fleets would never make it.
Armed Americans alone represent twenty to thirty times the strength of the Chinese Army. There are more gun owners in Wisconsin alone than there are members in the military in most countries. If the US military is defeated then fight hasn't even really begun.
Because as we all know, .30-06 and 12 guage are fantastic calibers for use against tanks and helicopter gunships.
Tell that to the germans! Logistics kills an army. Forget the tanks and choppers (actually a chopper is an easy kill compared to a tank). Taking out fuel depots and supply lines are what will kill any invading army.
It takes infantry to take and hold territory and a bolt action .30-06 with a scope and a silencer (that can be handmade in minutes) is a very effective sniper weapon. One shot, one kill. We must remember that a determined insurgency cannot be defeated.
How many German tanks were killed by .30-06 rifles again? Your point about logistics is true, but then again, a an occupying force faced with insurgent attacks, I doubt any nation that could invade the US would be as nice as us. Expect communities near attacks on logistic bases to get hit with nerve gas.
Tanks aren't hard to take out in urban environments. Even an Abrams tank can be taken out with a few gallons of gasoline. The crew can literally be cooked inside the tank.
The last thing an invading army would want to do is to bring nerve gas into the country. Some of it would fall into the hands of insurgents and the invading army is very concentrated making them an easy target. BTW Artillery is easily manufactured in a machine shop so expect the insurgency to have artillery. It might be limited but it would be very deadly.
Not when Russian/Chinese counter battery doctrine involves MLRS's. And they wouldn't have to bring nearve gas INTO the country. It can be air devliered by strategic bombers.
hahaha...YEAH RIGHT!, a gunner would pop out and sharpshoot you in the face from 200 feet before you even got close enough with your little gas can..lol....you think the Arabs haven't tried this already and failed horribly? You better take a hint and try to make yourself an IED like they do.
I said forget the tanks. An invasion would mean surrender. To get a surrender would mean all of out naval forces were under the control of the enemy. Well I do not see it. I see forces that would continue fighting with no surrender. Also remember the soviet tanks are an easy kill compared to the M1. Look at Afghanistan. The TXX tanks were designed to be light and small on the battlefield. Their armor is inferior to the armor of ours. True but tanks have a very limited range and logistics would be hell. I am sure if it came to it we would destroy out own infrastructure leaving the chinese supply line dependent.
It worked great against the Russians. Lets not forget that these tanks can be stopped easily for a little while at bridges. Seriously I just do not see it. First they would have to Kill our navy, than coast guard. Hell I really think our coast guard would be hell on their navy but add to that what happens when they get in range of the Airforce. I just do not see it happening.
The Coast Guard wouldn't be able to do much. The biggest weapon on a Cutter is a 76mm. That won't count for jack when the enemy has anti-ship missiles.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People's_Liberation_Army_Navy Oh and did I mention coast guard now uses CWIS and they have torpedo boats? And http://cgblog.org/2012/02/10/what-might-coast-guard-cutters-do-in-wartime-part-2-coast-guard-roles/
The original movie came out in 1984. At that time, the civilian militias, the mafia and the psychotics (i.e. Unabomber, Eric Rudolph) had some access to explosives. Today, the USA government has controlled explosives so forcefully that a Red Dawn is feasible if the military and communication systems are incapacitated. The only reason Iraq was such a problem for the USA was the continuous supply of explosives and personnel coming in from Iran. Otherwise, Iraq might have been decimated within 3-6 months. I'm pretty sure I'd stick around for the fun. A tank is such a powerful weapon against small arms that I don't think that most can conceive of the devastation and the number of losses that would occur before a resistance would even take one tank. The history of the military also demonstrated that Afghanistan was toast due to Russian airpower until the stinger missile made its way to Afghanistan.
I'm a Busker I would perform and get tips and well be happy if they provided me a room & board, medical care and work I could do for a wage and take care of me. Why fight?
Only the biggest cutters have CIWS and again a torpedo boat don't mean jack versus a 200+ mile range anti ship missile.
