I'm convinced that only pot smokers support legalizing marijuana

There's no sense in supporting the legalization of something you don't even do. What really gets me is how mainstream the issue of legalization has become, when it's so obvious why people want it legalized-- so they can get high legally. No non-user in his/her right mind would support legalizing drugs, because they know how harmful they are and how pathetic the people who use them are. Our society has become completely biased towards weed and against people who don't smoke it.

I don't smoke cigarettes but I believe smoking cigarettes should be legal.
I don't jump out of airplanes but I believe that skydiving should be legal.

Tell me why you think that pot should be illegal?

I will tell you why I think it should be legal- because:
    a) Our marijuana prohibition has been every bit as much a failure as our alcohol Prohibition- with almost identitical results- violence and criminals getting rich.
    b) Marijuana is at worst- no worse than alcohol and cigarettes- so why would we prohibit pot but not the others? There is no rational answer to why we legalize very addictive drugs like alcohol and cigarettes, but treat marijuana differently.

The reality is our society is slowly becoming less biased against weed, and starting to look at the cost benefit of having pot legal versus illegal- and once you look at the cost benefit- legalization comes out ahead.

I agree! That's what happened in CO. I think the concentrated interest were drawn to the booths for just that reason. And the diffused interest remained home and regrets it!

Who could possibly vote for everyone to have the freedom to do somethingnthey themselves don't want to do. I'd say people who love freedom. You know the ones who grew up and don't need the government to be their mommy, telling them right from wrong. Too few of us though, too few.

Yeah, people are getting the freedom to do drugs, but they're not getting the freedom to live a peaceful life away from drug users.

Check with any person who doesn't do drugs, and they'll tell you they'd rather have the latter.

Probably because more people are smoking it. The only way someone who doesn't smoke weed would want it legalized would be if they start smoking it themselves.

Why do you feel you need to use the law to force people to live as you wish them to live and in what way is that freedom?

This is just stupid. It's like assuming everyone in favor of same sex marriage is homosexual. The question is not why would support legalizing it, but why should it be banned in the first place. You do realize it was primarily because Congress was told it made black Jazz musicians rape white women, right?

Explain to me in what way your rights are being infringed by someone you don't even know smoking weed?

How about if you prove to me that not everyone who supports legalizing weed is a pothead?

I live in a duplex where the garage is under the house. My neighbor sometimes will sit in his garage and smoke pot and the disgusting smell easily finds it's way in our front window. Now what about my familys freedom?

Wow, I didn't know drug-free people weren't allowed on this site. Did I overlook that in the ToS?

What would constitute proof to you? I support it and own my own business. I know several other small business owners who do as well. A pharmacist. Several IT superstars. Most cops I personally know. A couple of lawyers. A strip club owner. Financial professionals. A guy who is a SEO rockstar. That good enough?

Now answer MY question. How are YOUR rights being violated by someone you don't even know smoking weed? What even gives you the moral authority to demand that another free human does not?

I was in a similar situation in my last house. Im out on my porch trying to enjoy the fresh air and pot head loser next door who can afford his daily pot but not a car nor even a lawnmower forces his loser stench on my family. That is why it should be illegal. Potheads don't care if they poison themselves which means they definitely don't care if they poison you. Im all for it if they can keep it to themselves and away from my lungs but the problem they cant.

I support the legalization of marijuana even though I have not lit up a bong in 40 years. Am I a pot smoker even though it has been 40 years? Am I still a "smoker" even though it has been 15 years since I lit up a Marlboro Medium from a soft pack? No way. So I am not a pot smoker either.

So that makes your title to the thread questionable.

I don't smoke pot and I support legalization. I don't think people should smoke pot, but I support their decision to do so if they want to. The main reason to support the end of prohibition is the awful cartels and gangs that make millions of dollars and kill thousands of people because of the drug trade. The prohibition of marijuana has cause far more death and destruction than marijuana would have ever caused on its own.

Would you have the same reaction to a cigarette, cigar, or pipe smoker?

nope, I've never touched the stuff and I support legalization, it's a matter of the unintended consequence of keeping it illegal outweighing the consequence of legalization.. that and the principle of self ownership. Just because you're Jewish doesn't mean you should support outlawing pork for everyone who is not Jewish

Yes. In fact cigarette smokers are even worse as they are far more prolific and throw their butts out all over society so the rest of us have to look at their disgusting daily life failures.

Turn on the AC, or better yet, plant some nice jasmine plants around the yard, that will cover the smell.

Pot is harmless and the only people who seem to be against it are people who don't know anything about it or older people who can't keep up with the times.

Outstanding post. The pothead crowd makes a vacuous argument for "freedom". But the truth that they just want to get high in public without being arrested is betrayed by their willingness to the point of pleading that government legalize pot and then tax it. They appeal to yet more statism by spieling on and on about the tax revenue possibilities.

One thing that sober minded individuals understand is that potheads or any other drug user can't possibly understand freedom because they are willing slaves to a substance. Their whole mentality is that of an odalisque deluded into thinking that self enslavement is freedom. Such deceived people have no concept of true liberty which is why they pine for more taxation so long as it allows them the intoxicating substances to which they are hopelessly beholden. Freedom minded individuals could never related to potheads.

Or maybe they're just people who value their health too much and hate to see innocent people turn to drugs.
