Ok, I'm confused. What's a facebook record? You can go to jail for having facebook? What are you saying lol.

That's a silly generalization, I'm sure only a small minority qualify for scholarships.

I've noticed that most millennials complain about things being too centralized, then they throw themselves into the meat grinder looking to work for someone else and asking the central government to save them, most never even attempting to start their own business. It's hypocrisy and cowardice but then it's also true you make less money when you go out on your own. That kind of hopeless cycle, where they hate what they consider their only option because they absolutely must make as much cash as possible, is what happens when consumerism replaces family as the primary value.

When a person has to do less and less to survive, let alone enjoy certain luxuries in life; isn't the natural human tendency to become lazy? Isn't it a simple reality that getting something for nothing makes people lazy?

Ok I see what that other person means. Unless you're the same person with two profiles. Yeah if they do post craziness then they advertise it. But that's an entire different topic regarding law. The pointis I guess is that they disqualify themselves and don't realize it.

All they have to do is lock down their facebook account. It's easy to do, just takes a few minutes.

    - - - Updated - - -

If they have any brains, they can lock down their account so that only authorized people see anything from their FB account. I know I have my teenaged sons' facebook pages locked down that way.

There are literally thousands of scholarships out there worth millions if not billions of dollars. A lot of people get scholarships.
You are aware that millenials getting out of college have college debt right? So why would you stack on debt to debt? It's like backing yourself into a corner when other options exist. It doesn't make any sense. As for why, because we never had the chance to get real opportunities to be employed in the first place due to school. Plus when you factor in the need for experience in your field, it's not the same thing as in the past. Back then you could afford college on minimuim wage. Now, it doesn't cover your living expenses. Better to get a safe job, then risk being in debt.

Really, thousands of scholarships? And how many million students? If there's so many scholarships, why do so many have debt? There are lots of small businesses out there with very low start-up costs so it's not necessarily a crippling amount of debt to start one.

Lots of students? Yes. Thousands of scholarships? Yes. Why only thousands? Because a lot of scholarships can also go for more then one person, or more then one school. Plus that's not taking into account the grants and other programs out there that help with students. As for debt, college is really expensive. It's not something you go to and you can go without it. The push for college doesn't make it a want, it's a necessity. You go to college because it's that or poverty.

Let's say a student wants to run a business. They're fresh out of college, with debt. Going to a bank and asking for a loan means they'll check your credit score. You have very little credit history, and an outstanding debt already. Recipe for high intreset rate.

It depends a lot on what your degree is but there's plenty of businesses with very low startup costs. Anyways, being 32 and a sort of latter-day millennial myself, I find your argument that millennials aren't working summer jobs because they are studying over the summer to try and earn scholarships to be pretty absurd. I never met a single person who did that, plenty just chose not to work and I usually had a summer job.

Maybe because it's I grew up during the Great Recession and teens really aren't being hired now.

Well that's fair, my summer jobs were all before the economic crash so it was probably easier to find one then.

Part of the problem is that most college degrees do not segway or introduce people into some real small business ventures. You learn how to do management or accounting but not how to start an accounting firm. You learn international relations but not how to be a customs broker. You learn mechanical engineering but not how to fix a car or how to be a locksmith. We've funneled everyone into college even though college was originally about training leaders and 47% of the population can't all be leaders.

Yeah. I'm going to college but it doesn't feel like I'm going to get a good education out there.

they do want experience! that's true so if i were young i would try to get some in my teens. this requires you thinking about what you want to do. but then don't give up, get your education.

I've talked to a lot of kids who have trouble finding summer jobs. There are just not many out there. My oldest at 15 has a summer job, but it's mainly for fun and to get in shape--he works at a beach service that rents out beach chairs/umbrellas. He mainly got the job because the company owner used to work with my wife.

You'll get the education that you want. If you want a good education, you can get one anywhere. That said, it's also pretty easy to get a bad education if you choose it.

Go into the sciences or engineering. That pretty much guarantees that you'll get a good education.

Right now I'm thinking computer science. It's supposed to pay well when I get out of college, assuming I get a good enough job in the field.
