    It’s a national holiday, not a choose to celebrate thing. You’re right about the war but you didn’t see any other country but white countries free slaves world wide with economic sanctions and even sending war ships to sink slave ships. No other race targeted slavery the way we did. Whites are responsible for ending it world wide or influencing it.

    No, schools teach the official version, - the politically correct version which you believe in. I like to read more than just school books. The truth is the Lincoln did not declare Emancipation Proclamation until January 1, 1863, when the civil war was entering its 3rd year. At that time the British navy was on its way to help the South, but the declaration forced them to turn around because they had just abolished slavery themselves and could not be seen helping the South to defend slavery. Ya mon, is all true.

    Yea, whites are awesome , - freed slaves from themselves after 200 years of captivity. I guess arabs did the same thing so they are awesome too.

    Arabs did at times throughout history free slaves but they never, not once obliterated it by law until our influence.

    Although ending slavery was always a goal and was spoke about during the whole war. The northern military even complained about how they were out manned because they had to dig their own ditches while the south had their slaves do it. I’m sure you’re aware the south was on the winning side of the war for quite sometime. This was a common excuse for losing fights. The north was always more mindful on slaves and you know it.

    The white men who died freeing the slaves had nothing to do with slavery. George Floyd is a hero and martyr, the men who lost their lives freeing his ancestors can F themselves if you had your way.,

    How is it that I woke up this morning and thought to myself: "I bet there will be a thread today on PF started by a Trumper whining about Juneteenth".

    This is all sooo predictable. One just has to listen to Tucker to know the mindset.

    Lincoln was opposed to slavery for many years before he was elected president. As a lawyer, he thought that the Federal Government did not have authority to end slavery without a constitutional amendment. That's why he ran on the issue "No new slave territory" in 1860. He was also a political realist. The South had many millions of dollars invested in slaves and were not about to give them up. In the North there was more than a little racism. Even Lincoln said that Blacks were inferior. There were also concerned among the low skilled laborers that the freed slaves would compete with them for jobs. Lincoln was a politician who knew he had to lead, not dictate.

    Yes, the Emancipation Proclamation put the North on the moral high ground over the South with respect to the slavery issue. It would have looked really bad for Britain and France to have entered the war after Lincoln issued that order in later September 1862 after the Battle of Antietam. That battle, which he took as a win, even though it was sort of a draw, gave him the opportunity to issue the order, which did not take effect until January 1, 1863. Lincoln had wanted to issue it in the summer of 1862, but secretary of state, William Seward, advised him not to do, given the state of the war at that point.

    Perhaps you can cite the source when you learned that this British fleet turned around as a result of Lincoln's order. How did the British Government contact them? The wireless devices had not been invented, and the transatlantic cable, which couldn't connect with ships, was only a dream. The first one was laid in 1858, but it failed soon after it went into service. A successful one was not laid until 1866.

    Well it's what we do around here, someone post something, someone comments on it, the originator comments back.....

    Do you not see the bolded parts of your statement?

    There are cries to make sure it is NOT about everybody just blackbody's. To the extend an apology had to be issued for including whitebody's.

    So you have no comment concerning that? This is a discussion forum.

    How was the North on the higher moral ground when slavery was still legal and still in practice in the United States?

    Anti-slavery was a motivating issue for many Republicans in 1860. These tokens, which were issued soon after Lincoln won the nomination expressed that view. They were not associated with Lincoln directly because to have done that at that time would have been political suicide and would have started the Civil War even earlier probably with more border states leaving the Union.

    Hey, I didn't start a childish thread whining about a federal holiday, just because feeling that whitey is under threat. And, if it is Tucker's propaganda, or someone else's on another RW extremist media outlet, or Trump or DeSantis, it doesn't matter, the predictable mindset is all the same.

    It sounds like Juneteenth could serve as an opportunity for you to educate yourself (as if). LOL-- the race that took more slaves than any other, should use Juneteenth, for patting ourselves on the back, for letting them go free. Are you aware that the origin of this holiday is that while the U.S. had already made slavery illegal, and the North had won our Civil War, yet the members of the praiseworthy white race, in Galveston Texas, were continuing to keep slaves, anyway, and pretending that it was still legal?

    This was 2 1/2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, and two months after the South had surrendered to end the Civil War. Yet it wasn't actually the end of slavery, because Lincoln had only freed slaves in the South, and not all Northern states immediately ratified the Thirteenth Amendment.

    https://nj.gov/state/historical/his-2021-juneteenth.shtml

    <Snip>
    But we must remember that there were still enslaved Black men and women in New Jersey even after Juneteenth. Imagine, New Jersey’s death grip on slavery meant that until December 1865, six months after enslaved men, women, and children in Texas found out they were cheated of their freedom, approximately 16 African Americans were still technically enslaved in New Jersey.

    But Why and How?

    While there were many Black, mixed-race, and white people in New Jersey who fought against slavery, most legislators refused to condemn the institution. Profits from slaveholding organizations had built and maintained the state’s major cities and regional centers like Newark and those in Bergen County.

    Lincoln's 1863 Emancipation Proclamation did not free enslaved African Americans in the Northern States; it freed only those in the mostly southern "rebellious states." Two years later, New Jersey bitterly refused to ratify the Thirteenth Amendment, the United States Constitutional Amendment that abolished slavery and involuntary servitude across the country.

    Slavery’s final legal death in New Jersey occurred on January 23, 1866, when in his first official act as governor, Marcus L. Ward of Newark signed a state Constitutional Amendment that brought about an absolute end to slavery in the state. In other words, the institution of slavery in New Jersey survived for months following the declaration of freedom in Texas.
    <End Snip>

    It should also be noted that slavery had, long before this, been outlawed in England and Europe-- it can be credibly argued that the fear of that happening in America, as a British colony, was a major factor, pushing leaders of our American Revolution. So it is not the holiday, but rather your OP about Juneteenth, which appears to be doing the "cherry picking."

    There was no doubt about what the purpose of the Civil War was for the South. It was to perpetuate and expand the scope of slavery. Did you know that Democrat president Franklin Pierce wanted to buy or take Cuba by force from Spain so that it could be turned into a slave state?

    I know that it is very fashionable among far leftists to trash Lincoln because he didn’t do things fast enough. It’s also fashionable among many of the same people trash the United States and its history.

    They think that dictatorships like Cuba and China have the better system. Just have the “dear leader” snap his fingers, kill or jail those who disagree, and everything will be perfect.

    The United States has a Democratic form of government. That means that you need the consent of the governed to get something done. If you would prefer a dictatorship that could everything you want, advocate that, but your freedoms will not last very long.

    Lincoln could not get the legislation passed to end slavery, not even in the North, until later in the war. Even when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, there was a lot grumbling, especially in the Army. For many, they were fighting the war to restore the union, not free the slaves. You can criticize them for that, but that was where the mind set was for many.

    Lincoln had a tough situation. Support was eroding for him, and he thought that there was good chance he would be voted out of office in 1864. If that had happened, chances are the new Democrat president would have made peace with the South. The Democrat Party platform stated that “The war had been a failure and should be ended.” If that had happened, slavery would have continued for an unknown period of time, maybe even decades.

    I meant that quote facetiously because it makes other posters in this thread upset for some unknown reason

    Anyway, give me a compelling reason why I should waste my time reading your article.

    I don’t watch any news. I read articles. Hard to believe right. I mean a guy that’s not throwing childish names around or intentionally misspelling words in an attempt to smear. Why would anyone act like that? You used to be one of those guys but you have changed recently.

    my complaint isn’t about fear for “whitey” as you would put it. It’s the fact they are distorting it as if it’s a historical holiday yet won’t discuss the history because it’s counter intuitive to their goals.
