Never was a big comic fan, but if CA and Thor are "revolving" characters, as you say, then what's the big deal?

Who cares if the next CA is black, or Hispanic, or hell, Chinese for that matter.

I admit having Thor as a female made me do a double take, but again, if it's a role that can be filled by whomever, then a woman it is.

Besides, when it's all said and done...as mentioned, it's just a freakin comic.

I hope the comic book doesn't become Rated X when the female Thor gets raped by the male superheroes.

Same as any other entertainment medium. Established characters are established characters. Also the fact that no established Black characters ever turn White is part of it. The characters are only revolving in the same direction, never in reverse.

Bet when Cap is black...Falcon, if still around, still will be too.

Actually you just nailed the reason why the Falcon should not become Captain America. It's personality not fighting skills or skin color and nor even bravery or strength of will. Being super heroes they all always triumph in the end, but being Marvel superheroes they all also do so while being dragged sideways through heartache and anguish, and so to that respect they are all interchangeable except for one thing . . . their individual personalities and go-to character traits.

Simply put, Captain America is patriotism personified and nobility out the yin-yank. He's almost always played as a sober and serious type of character because those are the personality traits that best get the patriotism and nobility across in telling ways. But the Falcon has always had a different personality, just a bit flippant and a bit reckless -- or at least as I recall him. Actually he would serve better as a substitute for Spiderman.

Iron Man and Green Lantern were black... and then white.

That is a sound (*)(*)(*)(*)ing rebuttal. I cant say I have a counterargument of equal magnitude.

    I concede.

Wrong, Iron Mans pal stood in for him for a bit when he was hitting the bottle....and there's thousands of Lanterns. Not the same thing at all as replacing an established character.

Thanks, but your post was what crystallized the various posts for me. Something clicked inside my noggin and I said to myself "Wait a minute, I know how this stuff fits together." Sigh, which reveals waaaaaaaay more about my early youth than a man in his late fifties should probably admit to. But I liked superhero comics! Heck I even used to read the fan letters section at the back of each comic.

Thanks I really appreciate that bit of advice. In point of fact I have not purchased or read a comic book for -- oh -- roughly twenty-five years. But I shall indeed take your advice to heart and rule my life accordingly. 'nuff said. Oh and . . . sheesh!

The human Green Lantern was black... and then white. Then homosexual. Same with Superman, Power Man, and Giant-Man. Well, omit the human part for Superman. And the homosexual part. Unless you count that pink Kryptonite episode.

Also Black Widow, Black Mamba, and Black Cat turned out to be white. Oh, and the black Spider Man (Amazing Spider Man #252)... white as well.

And Storm... played by Haley Barry in the movies.

Green lantern was created as a White Character. Alan Scott. Sure there have been more, however your idea that this is an example of a Black character turning anything...is wrong. He was a White Character from the get go, then we've had many variations since. But he was never an example of an Established Black Character turning White as you tried to say.

LOl...ok forget the pink Kryptonite.

Again though, Superman...established as a White Character...so again does not fit your attempted correction as a Black Character turning....whatever he's turned throughout the years.

Black in name only. Another White character.....and honestly, I dont remember them ever changing her. not sure why shes on your list, we werent talking about having the word "Black" in the name.

Another 2 whos only "Black" was in their names. White characters.

Another established White character, going through changes...but was always a White character.

This one is an Established Black Character, and always was. So this is the one, that for you to make your point, would need to be reinvisioned as a Caucasian. Think it's going to happen?

    it wont.

    Black Panther?

Another solid Black from the start character. Think we'll ever see a story line in which he turns Caucasian?

    Dont bet on it.

As I said, and stand by...the racial changes to established characters only seem to go in one direction. It's getting a bit stale.

Very few comic book characters are black. Very few get re-invisioned as another person. Seems quite reasonable that when we're talking about very few of a very few there is little overlap. But Black Panther did get re-invsioned as a woman and Storm... well, she got re-envisioned as Halle Berry.

Green Lantern would beg to differ.

EDIT: And I see you addressed that in a later post by adding in a trivial requirement that the character didn't start out as black. How many black comic book characters are there do you think? In the mainstream comics that is.

Well....wake me when Storm gets "revisioned" as Uma Thurman or someone similar.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Trivial requirement??

My statement from the get go was about ESTABLISHED characters being changed...and only in one direction lol. My point stands obviously, as now those rebuttals are moving to the lower number of Black characters. Ive "added in" nothing. Maybe some didnt understand the initial statement before they tried to offer a rebuttal.

Channe makes some good points in this thread, but I have to admit I am ok with having a black Captain America.
