No. The person’s name really only matters to very local people who may know him. My point is that there is no good that comes from making these guys nationally famous.

Esp a sickness of the perfection crazed libs. Confiscate the guns, then when they use knives, confiscate the knives, then when they use acid, confiscate the acid.

Yes, concur. Maybe a very slight amount could have been avoided if the FBI or police did their job on follow-ups. But generally speaking it is just as you said.

Gun deaths are a price we pay for freedom. With freedom comes abuse. If we had no guns, deaths would be by abuse of the gov killing the citizens as they have done throughout the ages. One way or another deaths will happen. Just try to keep the to a min.

The big problem is with how the rich and powerful squeeze people to the breaking point. No social safety nets and family support is going down hill. I'm surprised we don't have mass killings every few days with people going off the deep end. Even if so, with killings every week, the 2A will never budge. Once the 2A would go, America is gone as well.

Not really - the incarceration rate for illegal immigrants (excluding immigration offenses) is .5% for all crimes. (the crime rate for US citizens is 1.53 percent in 2016). Violent crimes run at a rate of about 1 for every 12 non-violent crimes.

So basically, you think that it's not over-reacting to freak out about the near infinitesimal chance that you will be violently attacked by an illegal immigrant but you
think that gun banners are over-reacting to the chance their children may be killed by crazy people with a gun.

Personally, I think both responses are over-reactions, you're more likely to be killed by a drunk neighbor in their car, or a pissed off spouse, but I can understand
the fear response of both. Can you?

Why do Democrats so strongly value illegals more than our own citizens? Crime or not, why value them so much you tell us not to lock them out nor to evict them.

It’s not at all that difficult to secure public schools and have the would be mass shooter simply pick another soft target. There is no shortage of them out there.

The apathetic drones and wild-eyed partisan shills can now be ignored: they are part of the problem not the solution.

We can indeed eliminate some of the candidates for mass shooting by better back ground checks, judge-directed institutionalization, and better medical treatment.

All of them will not be found, unfortunately, because crazies become aware that people will come for them so hide their true selves until the act. We can witness some of the more clever nuts on this Board.

And, yes, hardening soft targets like schools can be done fairly easily.

Minors are protected, but the first amendment makes things rather difficult. People can complain about the media making school shooters infamous, but people are curious, and news organizations like curious people. The government can't and shouldn't do anything about that.

They can self-censor, of course, but there's very little chance of that happening considering the ratings war. So we'll just have to deal with people doing terrible things in order to have their 15 minutes of fame.

I didn't say they shouldn't be deported when caught - I was just pointing out that over-reaction is not just a liberal failing. I don't value them any more than any other human being. I just
value them less than any other human being. It's a quirk I have (Christian up-bringing and all) ... human being - then country of origin on the value scale.

What ****ed up your childhood so much that you would hate a human being for being from another country?

Are you seriously suggesting spending ONE TRILLION dollars on preventing school shootings because of a handful of mass casualty murders?

It is a social/society issue. Any solution that does not address that is a band aid on a severed limb.

Look at the example we have set for our youth. Look no further that the government we have allowed to run rough shod over us all.
We have not been responsible with government, we have not been responsible with money, we have not been responsible with education, we have not been responsible with our health. We have not been responsible with our young. We cannot even hold a civil conversation about a serious subject without resorting to tit for tat 3rd grade antics. Not only are we not responsible enough with the 2nd amendment. A case can be made we are not responsible enough for the 1st.

Well, some countries have managed to stop most mass shootings, and I believe that we Americans are just as capable as they are. Although the United Kingdom had a bombing and two car attacks in 2017, the last mass shooting (12 dead) was in 2010. The one before that was the Dunblan school massacre in 1996 with 15 killed. After the Dunblane shooting, the government began a crackdown on the availability of firearms with public support. In the 21 years that have passed since then, there has only been that one mass shooting.

Australia had a similar awakening following the Port Arthur massacre in 1996 in which 35 people were killed. Australia introduced stricter gun control. The result is that today Australia has a murder rate that is about one-fifth that of the USA.

Saying that there is nothing that can be done to at least drastically lower gun homicide rates avoids the problem and runs counter to the evidence. In this country, after a mass shooting, there is much hand wringing and talk about limiting access to firearms, but in the end nothing is done. Other countries, which do not have a national organization that promotes firearms and pays off politicians, have done something.

Will gun murder ever be eliminated? Of course not. But it could be drastically reduced if Americans demanded it as many young people are demanding today and refused to reelect any politician who has been bought by the National Rifle Association. Remember, even Donald Trump was in favor of some gun restrictions prior to his private meeting with representatives of the NRA. Since the meeting, he has been singing a different tune. He was apparently reminded that the NRA owns him.

I never told you I hate them. I never said my childhood was effed up at all. Raised poor, in a way it was good for me. I had to learn to set goals, make plans and on and on. Born rich, who knows if I would have had to learn those things.

If you did not say they should not be deported, sounds like you agree with me that they should be deported. Sooner rather than much later.

DACA still means temporary. It was not intended to be permanent. Trump might be making a mistake calling for the temporary status to be changed to allowing them to become citizens.

See, were it up to me, i would explain at the border why Mexico is such a great country they must remain to help mexico also get great.

If spending a trillion dollars would stop mass killings, why wouldn't we do that? What value do you put on human lives? Donald Trump claimed that the United States spent six trillion dollars on Middle East wars. OK, the Donald is not the sharpest pencil on the desktop, but according to people who have looked into his claim, he only overstated the figure by a trillion.

Which is more important, the lives of Americans including children or our military adventures abroad?

The majority of illegals are coming from farther south than Mexico these days - and things aren't so great there.

Yeah. I don’t want the government censoring. I would like the media to voluntarily censor itself just because it’s the right thing to do.

One way to do that would be for the police to not tell the name of the shooter at the press conference. Reporters can try finding out who did it by asking questions, but that in itself poses a problem because they have to put disclaimers like "Bob from MLK high school says that Jim Smith was the shooter" which carries a lot less weight than the chief of police saying that it was Jim Smith.

Make reporters work for their story.

No human life should ever be valued at more than 500,000 dollars. Yours, mine, my child, any grandkids I might hopefully have one day.

And can anyone here GUARANTEE that spending one trillion dollars will prevent all mass gun murders in the future?

Maybe because you don't have a trillion dollars, and you seem to be the only one that is in favor of this.

Now if we're talking about "our money" as in the taxes we pay, I would rather have another tax cut. But feel free to donate yours to the IRS so that maybe it might be thrown into the "save our babies for a trillion" pot.

    Good luck!

Guess material things are just more important to you than your kids. Kinda F'd up - but I guess that's the way you roll.

There are no guarantees in life - but how many shootings on planes have occurred since we implemented tougher restrictions on carry-ons 16 years ago? Zero.

I'm with you, I believe that legislation can't and will not solve school and mass shootings. I also believe that something terribly wrong has infected our society that causes or motivates these kids, people to go out to some public place, school, mall, casino, concert or what have and begin killing as many people as possible. That infection is something no one wants to cure or even find out what it is.
