As a Christian I am offended... but I do see the humor in that.

I know many atheists - well agnostics, anyways. None of them have the hysterical emotions toward faith that "Internet People" do. They all display the same kind of reason, tolerance of differing beliefs and civility that you do. Funny that the very Internet People who claim Christians are the ones showing intolerance or hostility, are the quickest to display it in themselves...

There has already been a discussion on this topic. As unconstitutional I think this ordinance is, it does not single out religion as fraternities and non profits are also included under it.

I did NOT say we are CURRENTLY bombing ALL Muslims, just MANY. (We have dropped more bombs on Iraq ALONE than were dropped in ALL of WW2!)

However, many on the Right often propose we use a Final Solution on ALL Muslims, aside from the Right's fascist proposals to END America by evicting them from the USA, taking away their civil rights, etc.

And yet, in 30 seconds, I found 3 Toastmasters International clubs (a non-profit) holding meetings several times a week on private properties, in that area.

Yeah, and they probably didn't think they were better than everybody else and applied for a permit unlike the Christians who apparently are above the law. If the Christians want to hold a meeting tell them to follow the law like everyone else and apply for a permit.

Here you go. You just won a free membership.

    Warning noted and taken.
BTW, I am not tolerant of Fundamentalist or Extreme Islam OR Christianity.
I believe in the concept of Seperation of Church & State (although there have been several instances when imo this has been taken way too far).
I do not judge the faith of others (or lack thereof) as being "right" or "wrong".

Now prove they didn't have a permit then we can talk. A link would be appreciated too.

Wow, its amazing how many little laws there are.

This is ridiculous; people should have every right to have a bible study in their own homes! So what if it violates some obscure law? That should get repealed.

I've been a Toastmaster for over 20 years. Won International, Humorous and Evaluation contests. Served as club president and Area Governor. Not one Toastmaster club I know of, ever applied for a permit to meet.

But okay. So you're all for the government controlling the right to peaceful assembly in a private home? Okay.

And I friggin LOVE that you label me as a GOP er! LOL!

That could very well be true! I agree your home should be for whatever purpose you would like to put it to.

But the OP of this thread is making this a "CHRISTIAN OPPRESSION" issue, which highly unlikely ANYWHERE, but EXTREMELY UNLIKELY in HARD Right Wing, Republican, home of the John Bircher Society and many more ORANGE COUNTY CALIFORNIA!

Um Hmmm. Read my OP. See what my position is, as to whether there is Christian Oppression in this country. Oops.
My position is that Christians are not oppressed in the USA - however, sometimes Christianity is targeted by Liberals in ways that are unfair. I do not claim Liberals are "Muslim Apologists" and as a matter of fact, I have many friends who are Muslim. I have no ill will against Hindus, Atheists or Zoroastrianists.
But I've seen incidents that make it fairly clear, that if it were done to non-Christians or non-Christian buildings, works of art etc..., the ACLU and many Liberals would be screaming their heads off.
All that being said, you do have a very legitimate point in that OC is definitely a GOP stronghold (you left out Nixon, btw) and has one of the largest Christian populations in CA. So I can acknowledge your point. Makes me wonder about this particular community or whatever.
On the other side, we'll see whether you or those of opposing view, acknowledges the very legitimate points I made. I would predict they will discount them or whatever. There are exceptions, but most people here don't ever have character to admit they're wrong or even acknowledge that differing views can be valid. They usually just go directly to petty name-calling, insults, etc... Not as reciprocation (that I understand and do myself!) but initially.

In San Juan Capistrano, Nixon is considered too far Left to even discuss in polite society!
The area is a very high end area with very expensive houses with rules and regs (CC&Rs) on the property big enough to choke a goat. While meant to "keep out the riff-raff" and "maintain the standards of the community", as privileged people with MASSIVE senses of Entitlement do everywhere, they become HORRIBLY upset when the rules they came up with to keep the poor or unusual away from them come around to bite themselves in the butt!

You can HEAR them "OH, we passed that rule to keep gatherings of Democrats/Jews/Pentecostals/Home Businesses selling Cosmetics/Activists/Whatever, NOT to stop ME from having MY group over!!

To get the idea, a few years ago, a friend in one of those areas reported a housewife in the neighborhood was going around with a petition to get a small motor home for Doctors Without Borders that was parked in the driveway of a ONE ACRE LOT in the OPEN! :omg:

It was parked there for TWO WHOLE DAYS because the doctor who would be using it was outfitting it for going to a potential emergency site down South in Mexico and South America, and he needed to install some specialty equipment in it.

He had brought this up in a neighborhood meeting in advance, limited the time to THREE days, but some neighbors just thought is was TOO AWFUL to allow this kind of "flouting of the rules" to go on unchallenged!

That is a sample of upscale Conservative neighborhoods and their attitudes. Even though they spend their Sundays at Saddleback Church praying a mile a minute, if Jesus Himself had sat down in a yard or a park to do his Sermon On the Mount, these "good neighbors" would have had Him arrested.

Okay those are valid points but in this case, the neighbors wrote to the committee supporting the meetings and making claer it wasn't a problem. Then again, that may be spin. It could be that many of them did just that, and the article doesn't mention the fact that others complained.
I know. Shocker. Someone on PF who admits their point may be wrong. I've done it before. This is a subject about which I'm quite passionate and sometimes that effects my objectivity.

This is not christian mistreatment in anyway. Stupid town ordinance, maybe, but it has nothing to do with them being Christians. It is a falsely attributing the cause to Christianity. For all anyone knows, someone got annoyed at the group and reported them on a stupid law, which happens all the time with these types of ordinances. Just because "Neighbors have written letters to the city in support of the Fromms, whom they said have not caused any disturbances with the meetings, according to PJI." does not mean all neighbors have or that it could not have simply been an acquaintance with a grudge.

This is not a country where Christians are ones that have to fear from discrimination. If you want a thread to show religious discrimination, look no farther than any of the many stories from atheists. They are after all one of the most distrusted and hated minorities in the US.

This is unfortunately true, they seem to be fading slowly, but they should already be gone.

    For example:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_law

As for something that effects where I live:
"The retail stores that are allowed to sell alcohol are only permitted to sell alcohol from noon to 5pm on Sundays and usually from 11am to 9pm Monday through Saturday. "
