I guess lane splitting is ok.No date on how current that was.
Gotta have a date.Plus Texas can stop ya on yer scooter and
declare you need a safety inspection,I gather.
That can't do that in my state. Therefore I don't expect to get
stopped, other than breaking the law of maybe a taillight out.

They only stop you if they catch you. lol And as far as safety inspection goes, if your sticker is current then they got no reason to tell you that you need one.

    Yeah,I was thinking about that.Some safety sticker.Like I said,i'm
fortunate my state doesn't allow for safety inspections.
As far as a helmut law,the first year you have a motorcycle license
or permit, you have to wear a helmut. After that,no helmut mandatory.
I don't wear a helmut. They interfere with my ability to hear those
    around me and see.I'm a much better rider w/o a helmut.Plus i'll
never forget the time a bee got in my helmut in the summer.
Tell me that isn't a downside to wearing a helmut and safety.

Helmets can be cool at times.

Sitting at the intersection of St. Charles Rock Road and Woodson (Herkdriver knows exactly where I'm talkin' about!) on a 1983 Yamaha 900 Seca. Blue jeans, black leather jacket, black gloves, and a Simpson Bandit helmet on with the black face shield...

Some little punk next to you at the light in his 1972 Chevelle, with his smokin' hot teenage girlfriend who works at White Castle sittin' next to him. You turn and look at him, and when they look back at you, you turn and watch the light, and wait for it...

And when the light goes green...

He doesn't even try, because he knows, HE KNOWS, that you'll beat him like a red-headed stepchild!

A brain bucket can compliment the look, and the look can be very intimitidating to the unknowing!

    :)

    I know the Rock Rd.

I would never consider not wearing a skid lid.

Man I dig street draggin.I also have the Car that will do it.Every once
and while I'l tee off a Harley guy and tell them My Car { EVO} can
take that Bike of theirs. My stock EVO is good for a {13.1}e.t.
Car & Driver had a 0-60 of {4.3} for the RS EVO.Which is what mine is.
Most mags have a low of {4.6 sec.} for the EVO.
But an EVO is fast.Faster than any Harley softtail. Not a V-rod
however.A V-Rod is built around a small displacement Race V-twin
made in germany.I think the original V-rod engine was around 1000 cc.
Used to be some of the internal stamping on a V-Rod block had
german markings. That was back with the first run of 1130 cc v-rods
    with the distinctive { seldom seen anymore } Aluminum { no paint}
    tanks.Anodized aluminum.

When I wear a helmet I can't hear other cars next to me.My bikes
don't have loud exhaust.I also can't see good wearing a helmet.
It literally gives me tunnel vision and blind spots.
PLus helmets are uncomfortable { too hot in summer and blow
cold air around in winter }.

I have to agree with him on this. I mean come on I can barely notice the cars with my headphones on much less a helmet. PFT

I honestly do ride with ear buds on occassions but I ride a thumper with a drag pipe so I cant hear anything as it is, helmets in the long run ruin your spine as well (2-5 lb brain buckets arent great. They take out your perifial (doubt I spelled it right) vision and are a pain to have to carry every where you go (people steal stuff out here)

I live secounds from the border so my 30 dollar 3/4 isnt safe tied/locked.bolted to my blast. Ive had a fker steal gas from the tank befor much less leave my lid on there.

Wind sucks. Rain sucks. Pavement sucks. Helmets are awesome... and yes... Hells Angels wear helmets. It is the law almost everywhere. They don't like unnecessary police involvement because they are scumbag criminals who traffic guns, drugs, and humans. Great ideals you have there.

Illinois has no helmet law, and I've seen plenty of bikers going down the highway at 70mph with a bandana and sunglasses...no helmet. We've all, I'm sure, been driving along in our cars or trucks and out of nowhere a small rock hits the windshield...kicked up by the vehicle ahead of us. Imagine you're on a motorcycle and this happens, only the small rock hits your unprotected head or your eyes. It's enough to distract the rider into losing control of the bike and laying it down. Game over, you're just another DOT statistic. Motorcycling by it's very nature is an inherently risky past time. Part of the joy is accepting the risks, because when riding there is no other experience that puts you in the moment, like riding does. All your worries melt away and as a rider you are in the moment...it's a true joy that only we as motorcyclists know. Folks look at us like we're crazy, but they'll never understand. Assume the risks, but don't be stupid...I urge every rider to wear a helmet with eye protection.

    Well said Herk.

I don't go anywhere without helmet, boots, gloves, and jacket on. I've heard too many horror stories over the years. Growing up, when I was maybe 10 years old, my neighbor hit a raccoon doing over 100 mph on his motorcycle. Believe it or not, he lived, but just barely - and he was a absolute mess.

Your both out of your minds. There are plenty of helmets that don't take away your periferal view that bad, and that are very light weight. Not to mention it is something that you get used to. Since most accidents happen under 30 mph, and smacking your head at that speed can still do serious damage, it just doesn't make sense not to wear one.

    Great post Herk!

Same here... my leather jacket, gloves, books and my helmet. If it's too hot to wear your gear it's to hot to ride.

    Thats why I speed :p
Honestly My HD never saw under 100 and my blast only see's 60-70 because that's all she'll do 2 up.

I agree some helmets dont take away BUT in Tx, we have no real helmet laws which is nice, Rains not bad if you carry a bandana (Least) and a leather half bandana (Best) and rocks and stuff...well thats why you grow a beard :p

I do wear big Goggles. They make me look like some giant space
ant.But on the Interstate which I hate to use their a must.I wear
glasses.2 summers ago on a country road I got hit by debris.
Some guy was bushhoggin a plot of land and was right near the curb.
Out of nowhere I get hit right square in my head on my glasses. My glasses
got bent and one lens popped out.I thought a piece of a 2 by 4 hit me.
That's what it seemed like.I was disoriented and thought Oh No.This is bad.
I pulled over and looked in my mirror and saw a little blood on my
nose but that was about it.I thought I might have broke my nose.I double
and triple checked to make sure. That piece of whatever hit pretty hard
like gettin beaned from a baseball.I stopped my M109 and went lookin for what in the hell hit me.I found something that it probably was.A thick chunk
of a plant like a root.I then needed to find that lens but first wanted to confront the billybob on the tractor who was bushhoggin.I think he might
have saw what happened and was kinda worried polite.I told him what happened and he seemed kinda worried. We both went back to where I thought
my popped out lens was.I never found.Turned out the guy just rented out
a bldg. { former furniture store } and was going to turn into a Christian
church.Kind of a revival church.I spent about a half hour discussing
religion with the guy.He was a Jesus freak.Everybody was d@mned unless
they gave themself over to Jesus. He gave me his telephone # and said he
would get a hold of his Insurance agent. I got new glasses with the
    $215 his insurance paid for.Ray*Bans {prescription}
