You missed: If the opposite was true, do you think that it would have made a difference in the 2020 and/or the 2022 election?

I was a big Goldwater supporter back in 1964, although I was too young to vote. Back then you had to be 21. Which is an age I think they should go back to. I usually refer to myself as a Goldwater conservative with some of Ross Perot thrown in. Today many Republicans refer to Goldwater as a libertarian instead of a conservative as Conservatism has changed. Goldwater certainly didn’t like what is now known as religious conservatives. He said, “Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.”

Gay marriage, that never came up way back then, but Goldwater did state as in referring to gays in the military, “You don't need to be 'straight' to fight and die for your country. You just need to shoot straight. You don’t have to be straight to shoot straight.” Goldwater was the same on abortion believing that should be left up to the woman. I pretty much have maintain those values of keeping government out of a citizens private lives and business.

Hard to say. She might have a chance.

I think she is a candidate that could beat whoever the Democrat turns out to be.

It's in the judiciary where I see the strongest example of great overlap between Libertarian and Conservative. For two thinkers on this that I think best lay out where we are where they are trying to take us, that they see as the best fit for our Constitution: [IMG]

And for a much lighter, but a bit more current read:

If DeSantis is RINO, what THE HELL is Mitt Romney and Larry Hogan?

What you say is interesting, but I don't see how it is a response to: isn't that other half enough to sway the election?

Well, if she starts to attack Trump later, then she can be painted as a liar, after she said that she won't "kick sideways!" She has SCREWED herself if she later thinks that attacking Trump will be beneficial. From saying that she won't "kick sideways", to working with LOSER Don Bolduc - she has had a simply AWFUL start to her campaign. Nowhere NEAR good enough.

    DeSanctus?

Yeah, I have to say, there is something dishonourable and disloyal about leaving your term early to run for another office.

What do you say to the defense of: they claimed that the vax prevented transmission before Delta and Omicron, at a time when the vax was able to prevent infection and transmission?

Yes. I expect us to continue a cycle where national elections are very close and the power exchanges from side to side fairly frequently.

Both halves that power, I think that the Suburbs will determine which side gets the edge and that both sides will have turns at winning and losing.

Ok, so then we go back to my point, that I don't see how DeSantis can win, given that he is viewed as a radical, racist, homophobic, transphobic, far-right neo-nazi fascist, just like Trump, because that is how the corrupt dominant leftist media paints them, and unfortunately people believe it.

Is the idea of 'small government' not broader than this?

I think that Pence handled the post election season in the best interests of the nation, and he's certainly a 1,000 times more suited for the VP slot than Kackling Kamala, but, he's fairly worthless when it comes to standing up to the Left's assault in the culture war. He showed us that when as Gov, he buckled before the lying fake news media on RFRA.

Pence: DeSantis went too far with Disney

PENCE: “But the idea of going after the taxing authority, I — you know, I — that was — that was beyond the scope of what I as a conservative limited government Republican would be prepared to do.”

'A conservative limited government wouldn’t — or shouldn’t — have created the special status in the first place. This is a really dumb hill to choose to die on in a GOP primary fight, especially in this populist environment. Have fun defending a Disney corporate set-aside.'

We've had a lot of Republicans like that, they put on decent show, but when push comes to shove they desperately look for a justification to retreat.

No. That pretty well sums it up. I don't want to answer for @perotista but in our system we very carefully laid out the areas where the Federal Government was to operate, and beyond that regulations would be left to the States, and where they chose not to regulate, The People.

And of course, if We The People want to change what the Federal Government regulates, we have the amendment process with which to do so. But yes, the idea is for the Federal Government only handle those things that the Constitution gives them the power to handle.

Essentially, concentrate on doing a much better job, on fewer things.

Yes. The thing is that it's much easier to move from State to State than to another country, and the US is in the midst of quite a shift of population from Big Government States to Small Government States.

Every Republican is painted that way and we still win national elections. It's pretty widely known that is just the lying fake news narrative. Polling consistently is contrary to the established media narrative. It's not uncommon at all.

This is a reasonably likely map of the final results. [IMG]

The Republican will need to take one of the remaining three with WI being the most likely.

Not since 2016. And did the media really treat Bush as unfairly as they treated Trump? It would seem that they didn't treat Romney as unfairly, and he still got CRUSHED in 2012.

How the hell can this be a "reasonably likely map" this far out from 2024?

Government shouldn’t dictate how a person lives their own lives. It has to do with personal freedoms as long as one isn’t harming anyone else. There’s always a caveat. There’s always internal debate as to what is the governments responsibility and what is the individual’s responsibility.
