So, it seems to be a topic that has fallen off the radar here at pf dot com, but Pepperidge Farms remembers, and so do I.

    I remember the accusations.

"Florida has already publicly announced they're not going to be transparent about this."

"If the math books really contain aspects of CRT, why won't they show us???"

"Desantis is just using this to fire up his base for the upcoming election"

And, as those of you who participated in that thread know damn good and well, there was much more, and much worse.

But here we are a couple of weeks removed, and the State of Florida has, as I predicted the whole time, released a list of some examples of just what is going on in the textbook industry in 2022. Some of it is quite insidious, for example one teacher noted that a book he or she was asked to review just took the whole issue of "climate change" as if it were an indisputable fact, and presented it as such. Other math problems took the same attitude when it came to political issues (which have no business being in a math textbook from any perspective), where they concluded liberals good, conservatives bad, white people racist, and currently living ones were even presented as being responsible for the sins of their maybe-ancestors.

I kind of knew you guys were digging yourselves a hole out of which it was going to be pretty hard to escape, how sweet it is to have been right.

Yep! And it is an interesting read - especially since it is coming from Russia’s free propaganda outlet Faux news

Let us take a closer look at some of those “objections”

Yep I have to agree that would certainly upset at least half of the class to find out that they will be paid way less on the basis that they have an innie and not an outie

Again another shocker! Why the way the right has been crusading against affirmative action this just HAS to be wrong! There HAS to be more blacks than whites because otherwise the whites are not being discriminated against!

OMG! Some actually quoted science in a textbook!

Will the outrageous behaviour never stop!

Angry? I am not the one being affronted by a passing reference in an obscure textbook

I know someone who works as a textbook editor. Her job is to insert images and text that is more diverse. Interestingly she is a conservative. Money talks.

At least they aren’t doing it while putting exclamation marks on everything. If you aren’t angry, maybe yell less?

Where are the examples in the actual book though? Can't the state post snippets from the book?

What really stood out to me was that I’m every cited instance it was only one person taking offence. Most of the examples you would have to squint hard, stand on one leg, take a deep breath and bear down and work you panties into a wad before you found it offensive

The left is simply offended that thier propaganda isn’t going to be tolerated in the classroom anymore, the right has finally recognized the importance of fighting for the classroom and is winning.

I'd prefer a copy of the actual source using CRT teachings instead of hearsay.

One teacher said a book should be revised because it makes it as though climate change js a fact. Well, climate change is a fact. The earth is indeed warming up. Whether or not it is due to humans or natural fluctuations in earth's atmosphere is uo for debate. But should books be removed because of one teachers misunderstandings of climate change?

and you can't get that from the fox affiliate? Why?
this is likely a gross misrepresentation because it always seems to be when people make claims like this.
was it a misunderstanding or is it being dishonestly reductive I'm betting the latter because it's always the latter.

Anytime anyone claims someone else denies science they're not really. It's a straw man fallacy just like you did here with the climate change thing.

The Fox affiliate has no links to books or pages so cannot verify the teachers claims.

Well, according to the quote, which is all we have and what the OP was basing their entire opinion on. The teacher stated the books act like climate change was a fact. The teacher makes no mention of human vs natural causes, so I can only address her claims that climate change (warming) is not a fact.

doesn't stop you from making assumptions though does it
    so you're making assumptions.
I'm called a climate change denialist because I don't think human activity plays a large role in it even though I'm not denying climate change.

This is a loaded topic how do you know what she was referring to or are you just assuming because what is best convenient for your viewpoint I'm going to go with the ladder because again it's always the latter

when people accuse me of being a climate change denialist even though I don't deny that the climate has been changing. They make no mention of human versus natural causes.

You can only address her claims and the absolute most dishonest way possible.

Where if you didn't have an agenda you would reserve your judgment until you understood precisely what she meant.

The whole point of all of this is to color people who disagree with you as idiots. It's just too bad you do it in such a transparently dishonest manner.

That's why I would like an original source to the examples that was posted....book and page number.

The entire OP is making an assumption because their is no link to the actual example used...only yhr teachers opinion. But I guess it's okay to assume the teacher isn't lying or blowing the example out of proportion because her beliefs align with OP.

What if the example in the book was climate change is currently happening at a pace of 0.3 degrees every 2 years. What will earth's temperature be in 10 years if the rate remains the same?

Would you agree climate change being used in math books is being taken out of context by opponents?

I don't think you really do, if you did why don't you find it?
So you assume the worst of your political opponents?
why wouldn't you want to object to that?
When I hear the word climate change I automatically become skeptical of anything surrounding it. Because it never means that the global temperature has been increasing since the previous ice age.

I can state definitively in an argument with someone about climate change that yes the temperature of the planet has been increasing over the last 25,000 years. And yes that rate may fluctuate. But I'm still called a climate change denialist.

So all I can really gather from the actual world I live in is that climate change doesn't mean changing climate it means accepting some stupid conspiracy theory.

And I say kudos for that teacher for spotting it and suggesting that reject the textbook we don't need to brainwash our kids and do some stupid religion.

I am only basing my opinion on what she said. She said climate change is not a fact, and she is wrong. That's not assuming the worst of her.

What part of the math problem was political or designed to indoctrinate our children? Because that is the heart of the issue correct?

And what part of the example attempts to brainwash our children into some stupid conspiracy? You are accusing me of assuming the worst while you blithely accept the teacher's word math books are indoctrinating our students. Are we going to remove and revise every piece of literature that someone doesn't agree with?

Disingenuous at best. Chanting all the classic LW mantras as if they were facts. CRT and Wokeness 101 don't below in a class teaching basic math skills.

Ignoring all the cultural context. Seems dishonest.

Was that the reason for the book being rejected?

    I've accepted something? When, what?

Just understanding how climate change is deeply loaded and calling you out for pretending it isn't isn't accepting anything.

I think you're just accusing me of something in order to save face.
Is that what's happening here or are you just being hyperbolic?

And that is when it was unnecessary to read any further into your post..............

And BTW the station is an affiliate of the Fox entertainment division NOT Fox News Channel. Their news department has NOTHING to do with Fox News Channel and is completely independent. See when you are not an American and know little about my country you tend to make these fallacious statements. You should refrain from such.
