If you don't want boos at a graduation, do not use politicians to speak at them or at least not controversial ones. If this is not supposed to be about politics, then maybe you should look for inspiration in other fields of endeavor for your options.

Since when do we expect an audience to sit in adoring rapture in front of these people?

Sure, very collegiante. Let us learn by not learning.

My wife I'm sure is rolling in her grave, class of 1985. This isn't the Catholic University I remember.

    Cheers

    To the history challenged:

Throughout history students have protested....so you are saying that throughout history all college students were deranged by their professors?

BTW, the quoted student seemed very knowledgeable about Pence's past and his feelings and actions .....are there some she got wrong?

It's the hint of impropriety that causes problems.

I never once had lunch with a lady alone out of deference to my wife's feelings, not once.

    You've been divorced, yes?

    Cheers

He respects his wife. Some people have a problem with that.

The hatefulness of the left really shows its self in this thread. The same people slamming Pence in this thread ...for showing respect to his wife...would be chattering insults and accusations if ever the New York Times lays out a baseless story of accusations if ever Pence is seen dining alone with a woman. The left is truely ruled by evil...hatred just oozes. Using Comey's words......it's slightly nauseating.

Well, if you are a nut job lefty, pretty dam hard apparantly.

All you have to do is sit there and let the minority who want to walk out, walk out. All you have to do is sit for a second and clap whenever you want to. For a right winger, bent on undermining a long established principle in this country and Mother England for centuries before, that is pretty damn hard apparently.

Time to grow up. This is America.

I think that this phrase was the talking point that sold me on your apparent jump from reality by calling Pence controversial.

You see, in my part of the country, Governor Mike Pence is considered to be a somewhat boring "vanilla" Governor.
He was chosen as a VP candidate because, overall, he managed the state of Indiana quite well.

So, by anyone's clear perception of the current political climate in this country, and specifically in Indiana where Trump/Pence won about 57% of the vote, why in the world should I take you seriously?

You are looking at the wrong political climate. This is a major University campus with presumably a lot of students who are out of staters, younger, more educated or otherwise beyond that demographic profile of the average Indiana voter . If they are the ones doing the graduating, and this ceremony is designed to celebrate them and their accomplishment, their views of the this politician may be more relevant than general statewide polling.

If your views of him are shared by a vast and overwhelming percentage of these students, this protest will be small and unimpressive. Don't sweat it if a half dozen disgruntled students walk out.

So much this. It's such a joke. Look, I get it when there are chromosome disorders or other genetic/biological issues - which have been proven to exist. But this nonsensical otherkin bullshit, the horrendous xe, zir, zhe crap - these college kids are out of control, and part of the problem is the injection of Marxist hysterics into positions of power.

Even if you are a grad of a Dominican or Franciscan Prep School from the liberal metro area of Chicago, you still know exactly what to expect within the Jesuit confines of Notre Dame.

Pence is a devout Roman Catholic, who was born and raised in Indiana, with no personal scandals to his name and very little political baggage.
Those credentials will play extremely well at Notre Dame.

then five people, maybe twenty, will stand up and walk out when he talks. I think Notre Dame and Pence can handle it.

If it's a peaceful protest than I have no problem with it, if they wear masks arrest them for loitering, if they proceed to riot, then prosecute and deny all education credits.,,no degree. You now have to start over.

By the way, Americans, this is the correct pronunciation of 'Notre Dame'. It is NOT 'noter daym'

graduations are not the time for religion or politics, that is a special day for everyone there, don't ruin it for some, Pence should not even be there

respect the students graduating.... it's their day... they earned it

    Fixed it for you.

As I said before the last two graduations I attended, the speaker was a politician I sat there politely, applauded when appropriate, it was over in 10 minutes.

I would never dream of disrupting the ceremony over petty political bs.

Let's not forget, this isn't about pence, this is because hillary lost and the vocal 1% crybaby crowd is still butthurt. Pathetic.

Ps, anyone that doesn't know the history of notre dame should Google it's history, past and present.
