All I know is that my 3 buds from another site are Ohio State, Alabama, and TCU fans.....and the first AP college football poll of this year came out over the weekend. OSU the first unanimous #1 pick in AP history to start a season, so where is Brian? And TCU is ranked #2 ahead of 'Bama, which is #3. So where are DOcon and milo?

Geez guys, I'm not the college football fan you guts are but this seems like good material for you 3 guys. What gives?

my team is #10 (FSU) and while Seminole Nation is going nuts over that and the SEC bias that a 5 loss AU team from last year is now ahead of us, I'm not worried.

If we win the ACC and go undeffeated, we will be in the playoffs. Even when we started #2 last season.... we had to go undefeated and win the ACC. Now, bama doesn't ever have to go undefeated because it's the SEC, and beating 7-6 Arkansas 14-13 is a better quality win for bama than FSU beating a 7-6 boston college team by 3 on a walk-off field goal at the end of regulation...

But our Running back is back.... so I'm ready for season to start.

I think the SEC has been the best conference in the nation over the last 5 or 6 or 7 years. Rankings are subjective.

I am an Irish fan and I don't care what they are ranked at the beginning of the season. It is the end of the season that counts.

I am one of the few people that live in Alabama that doesn't have a big A on everything I own.

I don't want to put ND. on anything I own for fear of vandalism...but I might get by with a Leprechaun. It is a cool mascot.

I'm not the huge college football fan some are, but I do enjoy all sports. And from everything I've seen and read, Brian Kelly is a good coach.

I like the fact that ND has rules and the players must obey them. No grades...no play...etc.

It is about honor and sportsmanship....and of course winning... And if that ever changes they will lose one fan for sure.

no, the SEC is 2 teams deep, and 12 others saying "we used to be good once upon a time... please still respect us" People are still counting 5 loss LSU as a quality win in the SEC but the last time they were good was in 2010. How many losing seasons must the University of Fl have between the current, and their last national title run in 08 before the SEC quits counting them as a quality win? Same goes for Tennessee.

Year in and year out, the SEC is only 2 teams that have a legit shot at a title, and 12 others who are completely overrated. Granted, you never know who those two teams are going to be, (well, one is bama, the only consistant team in the last decade of the SEC) but SEC fans want you to believe that

    BAMA
    AU
    LSU
    UF
    UT
(the BCS winners) were all still competing for a title every year, despite having losing seasons.

follow the rules.... well, except for pic-plays in the endzone, huh? lol

As the TCU grad and fan PD mentioned in the OP, I like our chances this year if the defense grows up. Offense is LOAD-ED: Two deep on OL averaging about 6'4", 315, really fast and some really big receivers, good RBs and a Heisman candidate at QB, reliable clutch kicker. Graduated some top notch linebackers and DBs who have to be replaced this year with sophomores, redshirt freshmen and true freshmen. However, Coach P's defenses are always built around speed and he says the new guys will be much faster than last year's bunch. They just have to know where to go when they run.

If Froggies have to play an SEC team in a bowl game again this year, I hope SEC will send tougher candidate than Ole Miss was.

Me too, but the Irish are usually out of gas by Game 6. And, as Paul Hornung suggests, ND could use a few more thugs.

Pick plays in the end zone is still under debate.

Even a lot of Bama fans think they were cheated. But the ref does decide.

I can't recall any rapist or thieves on the team.

Great game, nevertheless. I didn't think ND had that kind of game in them.

    DOcon.....

I do have to say I like seeing TCU doing so well, and I think it will be good for college football for a smaller school like that to make the Final 4....which they have a good shot at this year.

But.....I feel sorry in a way for TCU that in this year when they have what it takes to be at the top of the heap, is the same year OSU is so far ahead of the pack it isn't even funny. It's a 100% slam dunk the Buckeyes will be in the Final 4. Now once there, anything can happen in one game, but they will be the prohibitive favorite.

I would dearly love to see a TCU vs OSU game this year.

I would never say at the beginning of the season that any team is a "slam dunk". Even if they look that way at the start of the season many things can happen.

I think TCU has a shot and it would be nice to see them do well after last season... it would be good revenge for them.

no no... Ole Miss beat Bama.... they must be elevated to ELITE STATUS in order to geta 1 loss bama into the playoffs last year....

Ole Miss was a 1 upset team... like aTm was when Manziel beat Bama.... It's funny, when a mediocre team in the SEC pulls an upset on their top team.... suddenly, that mediocre team is elevated into ELITE status.

But when a mediocre ACC team like NC STate, or Wake Forrest beats FSU.... it's "because FSU IS OVERRATED" lol

Meanwhile, FSU has eliminated those catch conference games and bama is now the FSU of the early 2010's getting beat by lesser teams.....

    - - - Updated - - -

TCU is like FSU in the sense that they have to go undefeated to get into the playoffs....

ND recruits very heavily here in Minnesota - it's a school that has the pick of the litter as the saying goes. So many recruits out there dream of wearing that ND on their chest so the school should never have any trouble finding winning players.

Trust me when I tell you it's a slam dunk. They are SO loaded at every position, thus why they are the first unanimous preseason #1 in AP history.

On top of that, their schedule is pitiful. Non-conference games against a down Virginia Tech team, Hawaii, and 2 weak sisters of the poor from the tiny MAC conference. Then when Big Ten play starts, they get the likes of Indiana, Illinois, Rutgers, Maryland, etc. They have three (3) "decent" opponents on their schedule.....Penn State, Michigan St., and Michigan. And then will likely draw Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game. You're correct....many things can happen, but combine this talent level with a powder puff schedule, I do think it's a slam dunk they get to the Final Four.

Once there.....I'd love to see them play TCU, whether in a semi-final or the championship game. As far as 'Bama goes.....if OSU gets them again this year in the Final Four, I think it will be the same result as last year, part II. But please understand....I'm not saying the Buckeyes are a slam dunk to win the title again, just a slam dunk to get back to the Final Four.

From what little I saw, your defense played well, but your star studded offense was frustrated by Minnesota's D last night.

I still like your Froggies for the Final 4, but I don't think they should be wishing for Alabama, let alone Ohio State, just yet. It's early though.

Looking forward to seeing how the Bama vs Wisconsin game goes tomorrow.

Yeah, and the defense had two D line starters out and started three freshmen at linebacker and secondary. I really expected the O to have to carry the game but the D held on and closed out the game. Minnesota actually worried me as they have a good secondary. Jerry Kill and Patterson are old staffmates in Kansas and Kill was in Coach P's wedding party, both have similar philosophies on managing a team, and Minnesota got a lot better through last year.

If I wanted to spend about 200 bucks, I could go to the Bama/Wisconsin game as Jerryworld is only about 5 miles from my house. Jerry is proud of his place. When TCU played there against Oregon State, normal tickets that would be 45 to 50 dollars in the new stadium on campus were $150 at Jerryworld. I have a really nice TV, so I don't need the atmosphere.

Well for a very short moment last night in the 2nd qtr, when the VA Tech crowd was in it, I hesitated a bit, but the Bucks are just too loaded. 42 points on a very strong VA Tech defense, and missing a couple starters on the offense to that one game suspension. Wow. We won't even be tested before Mich St late in the season.

And Cardale Jones gets the nod over JT Barrett. Doesn't surprise me. Jones will have to stumble for Barrett to get an extensive look, I think. Either way....we have roughly 2 months of patsies now before things heat up. :eyepopping:

well, sure... but Texas is a trainwreck....

OSU was on the verge of losing, but I missed what happened (wife was in labor so not much was watched this past weekend), did the VT qb get hurt? Would that have made the game closer had he stayed.

    - - - Updated - - -

I did see, FSU destroys the spread of a team that is talented, just not very deep, and we drop a spot in the polls.

AU squeaks by their unranked opponent and they move up. lol

AU's heisman hopeful looked very human with his 3 picks...

FSU has University of SOuth Florida this week.... STILL better than UF, though

I've been MIA the last 2 weeks so need to catch up. Haven't corresponded with milo since Alabama's big loss. OSU has been underwhelming against cupcakes, and I see TCU dodged another bullet.

that TCU catch was ridiculous.... but give the second kid credit for being prepared to take advantage of an opportunity that presented itself

    Luck = preparation meeting opportunity.

Now, I don't think TCU is anything different than they were last year.... all offense, no defense. THey will always cover the over/under... but someone will eventually Baylor them again, and the Big xII will be on the outside looking in again.

FSU covers the spread against BC... Drops
Ole Miss can't cover against Vandy... goes up. Typical bullcrap. Doesn't matter as long as FSU wins the ACC undefeated... they will be in the playoffs.

UF/UT game... I swear, UT must like it doggy style, because they always let opponents come from behind on them. Butch Davis should be on the hot seat very soon. All I heard this summer was UT was going to be the team to beat in the east. They struggled against Bowling Green, and they couldn't close the door on OU or UF. 4th and 14.... and they give up a 63 yard TD.... There's no excuse for that. Sure, giving up a 4th and long happens. but you bend, you don't break. They broke.
