It is an expression meaning that the attacker got what he deserved.

What annoys me the most about this is that you actually believe this.

So your plan is to have a neighbor risk their lives to save you.

    Good luck with that.

Such does not answer the question that was presented to yourself. What does age have to do with someone deliberately engaging in criminal activity, and victimizing someone else for their own benefit? Why does it matter what age the criminal individual is, when they made the conscious decision to engage in illegal activity?

Thanks for the update. Still, it's shocking that they arrested and held a 78 year old man for defending himself in his own home against armed intruders.

"Usually". How do you tell the difference between someone who just wants to steal your family jewels and someone who wants to both steal your family jewels then rape and murder everyone in the house?

Simply my opinion, but any intruder who does not flee when he is discovered is liable to do anything. Second, any intruder who is armed even if it is with a screw driver is capable of killing you or your family.

I especially liked the person who thought you should yell for your neighbors. If you are too cowardly to protect yourself and your family, why do you feel others should be obligated to protect you? Also, what would you do if your neighbor yelled? You are too cowardly to protect your own family, are you going to risk your butt for your neighbor?

They had no choice, the police were following the law i.e. you are only allowed to use reasonable force to defend yourself. Granted not one of our best laws, after all what’s ‘reasonable’ but the tabloid newspapers and the media love outrage, though he was never under any threat of a jail sentence and the knew it.

Any examples of what has been considered to be negligence in these cases? I just find it astounding that people have to keep their homes safe for potential intruders.

What if it is a male intruder and female home occupant?

Did you intend to say more there? I only ask because of the second part of my post that you quoted.

So you think arresting someone who was just the victim of a home invasion is acceptable?

So not only did someone try to kill him, now he has to pay for the experience in money as well.

All you've done it give a few quotes from the tabloid press, and we all know how much they like to sensationalize their reporting, don't we? I don't dispute the basic facts quoted, but I wouldn't mind betting there were other nuances to the stories which were omitted, because they might have diminished the tabloids' (to use the word again) sensationalist style of reporting?

As predicted, all charges have been dropped. The police followed the law, investigated the case and reached the right outcome. Meanwhile our American friends have their usual outbursts about our right for self defence

Also, maybe he didnt know their age? I mean would he ask them then if they answered honestly he could decide to defend himself based on age?. Ridiculous. I'd do what the old man did. Its time we are all entitled to defend ourselves and our property.

And why shouldn't we be able to equalize the odds by having a firearm? Not many elderly nor even youthful householders would want to get directly involved with someone who could easily prevail in a physical contest, and only a gun could do that. Why should we all be on the defensive against overwhelming odds, and hope for the best that they take what they want then leave our homes without occasioning actual bodily harm. Whose side are you on here?

What are you going on about? Our American friends here were having hissy fits saying that we have no right to self defence yet here we have a case where a burglar was killed by the home owner and rightly released without charge due to self defence claims.

As for guns, if homeowners were armed with guns, burglars will also be armed with guns AND the burglars will have the element of surprise. If that burglar was armed with a gun, we could well be discussing the death of Richard-Osborn- Brooks in this thread

Well it isn't a perfect world, is it! I'd much rather be left alone by scum, but if the choice is between keeping a gun rather than risk these psychos torturing me for the combination of a notional safe with my life's savings inside it, or opening the safe for them lest they eventually kill me, then I'll opt for keeping a gun every time. How about you?

So you favour guns being available to everyone?
