Some people are just so filled with hate and overwhelming emotions they can't stand the idea that others want to see how beautiful this world is. For those that have done their travels and are now content to stay home that is great because they have seen what is out there. For those that never leave the safety of their neighborhood....I pity them

I can't imagine living such a life. To me that's not living...that's just existing

I was a history major so I would thoroughly enjoy the Coliseum and Acropolis. One day I'll see both

Is one truly seeing what the world has to offer them, if they are limiting their travel to the secured, sanitized and specified tourist destinations, rather than venturing beyond such locales to see what the rest of any particular country may have to offer?

I am going to see Angkor Wat and then on to the buddhist temples in Thailand in February. I love ancient history

Why do you assume people aren’t venturing beyond “secure, sanitized and specified tourist destinations?

I'll admit to a certain amount of envy, as you have a tremendous experience awaiting you. Nothing is quite like that first moment of approaching the Coliseum, or any one of a dozen other astonishing places.

It is not being assumed. It is being questioned if such is the case. When one talks about the beauty held by any specific country, are they referring to what are ultimately known tourist destinations, rather than what is well beyond these designated destinations?

You’d have to ask each specific person you are referring to. As for my wife and I, we don’t prefer crowds so we tend to go to the less touristy areas whenever we’ve traveled.

No more than anything I’ve personally seen anywhere else. Which is to say I don’t seem to see all this ugly reality you seem to encounter on a daily basis. Then again I’m not a cynical negative depressed person.

Disturbingly, it seems that gun owners care less about safe gun storage than in the past.

"Approximately 7% of US children (4.6 million) live in homes in which at least one firearm is stored loaded and unlocked, an estimate that is more than twice as high as estimates reported in 2002, the last time a nationally representative survey assessed this outcome. To the extent that the high prevalence of children exposed to unsafe storage that we observe reflects a secular change in public opinion towards the belief that having a gun in the home makes the home safer, rather than less safe, interventions that aim to make homes safer for children should address this misconception. Guidance alone, such as that offered by the American Academy of Pediatrics, has fallen short. Our findings underscore the need for more active and creative efforts to reduce children's exposure to unsafely stored firearms."

The NRA pumps people full of fantasies about defending themselves with guns against criminals but neglects safety.

Sadly there are many morons who exist in the world. How some people don’t have the common sense to know they shouldn’t leave a loaded gun accessible to children is mind boggling.

    Regarding your NRA statement...BS.

One of the NRA’s published safety rules,

Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons.
Many factors must be considered when deciding where and how to store guns. A person's particular situation will be a major part of the consideration. Dozens of gun storage devices, as well as locking devices that attach directly to the gun, are available. However, mechanical locking devices, like the mechanical safeties built into guns, can fail and should not be used as a substitute for safe gun handling and the observance of all gun-safety rules.”

I know of no organization that teaches more about gun safety than the NRA.

You have the NRA confused with the litany of anti-gun organizations none of which actually teach anything practical about firearm safety of which the NRA is dedicated to with over 125,000 firearm instructors.

You want to venture to guess how many instructors all of the anti's combined have, if you answered zero, you would be correct.

How exactly does one go about forcing the owner of a firearm to actually keep their firearm stored in a manner that violates the standard of the Heller ruling? Law enforcement cannot conduct random searches of private residences to check and see if firearm storage requirements are being complied with.

Yet, accidental gun deaths among children (under 15) have pretty much remained stable since 2002. It's roughly in the .10 per 100k range, or a one in a million occurrence per the CDCs WISQARS database.
