When typing posts, I've noticed that if I type the number 8 and immediately follow it with a parenthesis close ) - I get a smilie that looks like this . I've also noticed that if I type a colon, followed by the word "cool", and another colon - I get a smilie that looks like this . In the additional options box, there is an option that says "Disable smilies in text", and checking that will eliminate the 8 & close parenthesis smilie - but it also whacks out any other smilie I choose to put it - any of the colon/word/colon smilies. So... if I forget to check the "Disable" box when I before I post, the only way to edit and eliminate the 8 & close parenthesis smilie is to make a space between the number and the parenthesis so that a date in parentheses looks like this (1968 ) - which is kinda sloppy. Is there a way that the 8 & close parenthesis smilie can be eliminated from the software, or is that so common a smilie that it's just something we have to deal with?
I usually don't say much, just go about minding my own business and posting pertinent information in the forums... ... But... It's gonna take w-a-y more than a minor software change to straighten out the problems of this board... ... it's getting to the point that I'm about ready to abandon ship for other more well run boards... ... the slow access and 'database errors' are past riduculous and getting to be ludicrous... ... for the good of the board and its users I hope things change for the better.
Try noparse tags: 8) :cool:The text in both lines is the same, but the second line has the tags. You type it like this:[plain]8)[/plain]
1. The manager that writes code. 2. The software engineer with a soldering iron. 3. THE USER THAT GETS IDEAS.
Re 3........that's a pity.because I was going to suggest an "ignore user forever" button under every users' avatar on their posts........seeing as how it takes so flaming long to access the UCP and do it that way!
There are hundreds of thousands of serious documents all over the ' net with little ' cool 's smiling out of them. I used to think they'd been hacked. Congrats on showing this simple solution.
