Russia Fires Back With Its Own Evidence

Russia has released spy photos of BUK systems in East Ukraine and also says it has radar data showing a SU-25 in the vicinity of MH-17.

The Russian military detected a Ukrainian SU-25 fighter jet gaining height towards the MH17 Boeing on the day of the catastrophe. Kiev must explain why the military jet was tracking the passenger airplane, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

“A Ukraine Air Force military jet was detected gaining height, it’s distance from the Malaysian Boeing was 3 to 5km,” said the head of the Main Operations Directorate of the HQ of Russia’s military forces, Lieutenant-General Andrey Kartopolov speaking at a media conference in Moscow on Monday.

“[We] would like to get an explanation as to why the military jet was flying along a civil aviation corridor at almost the same time and at the same level as a passenger plane,” he stated.

“The SU-25 fighter jet can gain an altitude of 10km, according to its specification,” he added. “It’s equipped with air-to-air R-60 missiles that can hit a target at a distance up to 12km, up to 5km for sure.”

The presence of the Ukrainian military jet can be confirmed by video shots made by the Rostov monitoring center, Kartopolov stated.

At the moment of the MH17 crash an American satellite was flying over the area of eastern Ukraine, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry. It urged the US to publish the space photos and data captured by it.

In addition, MH17 crashed within the operating zone of the Ukrainian army’s self-propelled, medium-range surface-to-air ‘Buk’ missile systems, the Russian general said.

“We have space images of certain places where the Ukraine’s air defense was located in the southeast of the country,” Kartapolov noted.

Former Congressman Ron Paul defended the Russian government on Sunday and slammed Western leaders for spreading "propaganda" after a Malaysian Airlines plane was allegedly shot down by Kremlin-backed separatists in Ukraine.

"Western politicians and media joined together to gain the maximum propaganda value from the disaster. It had to be Russia; it had to be Putin, they said," the former presidential candidate wrote. "While western media outlets rush to repeat government propaganda on the event, there are a few things they will not report."

One of those unreported things, Paul claimed in his weekly "Texas Straight Talk" column, was the United States' own responsibility for destabilizing the region. Ukraine is currently embroiled in violent conflict between the Ukrainian government and the pro-Russian separatists.

"They will not report that the crisis in Ukraine started late last year, when EU and US-supported protesters plotted the overthrow of the elected Ukrainian president, Viktor Yanukovych. Without US-sponsored 'regime change,' it is unlikely that hundreds would have been killed in the unrest that followed. Nor would the Malaysian Airlines crash have happened," Paul wrote.

The Western corporate mainstream media has largely presented us with the U.S/E.U perspective. As alternative narratives gradually seep out into the ether, these narratives are beginning to be challenged. As was the case with the now debunked assertions claiming Assad used chemical weapons in Ghouta, I was initially convinced of his culpability. So it is with claims that the plane was brought down by "rebels" or the Russian's. America has a history of presenting to the world assertions based on falty intelligence - the Assad/chemical weapons scenario being a case in point. Increasingly I am of the view that the accusation that either Russia or the "rebels" were responsible for the downing of the plane will, in time, be proven to be another piece of U.S propaganda.

I think that's the diplomatic way of saying, "put up or shut up".

 

Oh, and one more amusing notion. Today a lot of open sources' (like Wikipedia) data on specifications of Su-25 were changed with the maximum altitude being recessed to 7000 meters instead of 10 000 meters. Ukraine's twitter army never sleeps

 

I was looking for that same info earlier and noticed Wiki has some VERY recent editing on those pages.

Service ceiling is not the same as absolute ceiling, anyway.

 

SU-25 is a ground attack plane ... Ukrainians can deploy air attack planes in case of need, so it's not that clear why they should have employed a ground attack plane to hit a high target.

May be it was on a reconnaissance missions and Russian rebels made a mistake targeting it ... the missile missed the military target [the Ukrainian SU-25] hitting the civil plane [I cannot exclude the SU-25 was using the civil flight as "shadow" to make a spying mission].

 

It is not that it is much of importance anyway. Su-25 is not exactly fit for the mission. It still can take it down with R-60 missile but there should be a pair or two of functioning fighters and they had BUKs in the area if they wanted to take it down. A (*)(*)(*)(*)load of them, to be more precise.






What was military aircraft doing within visual range of a civillian jet in a warzone? Another question to be answered.

 

there is only ONE group of people shooting down aircraft in this area, and that is the Russian rebels.

if the rebels and their supporters suspect some sort of conspiracy to frame them, I expect some amazing evidence.

 

Please don't attend jury service. Although I do agree with you in the sense that the most likely scenario is that it was the rebels acting autonomously of Russia who shot it down "accidentally" in an act of gross negligence. That some on here attempt to make crude political capital out of human suffering in advance of evidence predicated upon thorough independent investigations on the ground, is symptomatic of your Russia-phobic hatred. It's more convincing than Kiev's audio recordings to be sure, I wonder if the black boxes would indicate the presence of a jet fighter? Otherwise, since the missile system can supposedly blow up the plane within 15 seconds, the information on the boxes might be useless.

It was expected that the Europeans would announce much tougher sanctions today. I'm curious to see what they do/don't do since the release of this info.
