and what year these were published?.. that is the point - the publishing date was past the year 1991, when they began to slander the USSR with no mercy.

none of that was ever said by Stalin, for he was not a blabber at all, and of course he watched his speech.
the quotes you posted are fakes.

Sorry. Stalin actually said "One death is a tragedy; one million is a statistic."

As for the quote about the very brave man in the army, he meant that the punishments for not being a hero in the Red Army were so severe that a man would have to be very brave to do otherwise.

But I can see our Stalin worshipper needs a few more quotes.

"Everyone imposes his own system as far as his army can reach."

"If the opposition disarms, well and good. If it refuses to disarm, we shall disarm them ourselves."

"The people who cast the votes don't decide an election, the people who count the votes do."

"I trust no one, not even myself."

"Education is a weapon whose effects depend on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed."

"Death solves all problems - no man, no problem."

"We don't let them have ideas. Why would we let them have guns?"

Slogans mean nothing when the PLA cuts the Trans-Siberian Railroad and starts rolling up an out-of-ammunition Maritime Siberia.

How wonderful and easy life is when you have a clear concept of an enemy. The idiocy in some of these postings is almost painful to read.

There was no bright side to the USSR, it was one enormous prison so stop trying to romanticize it. The criminal Bolsheviks took over Russia, a nation which had the fastest growing economy in the world, and whose leader gave them not only a free press and a parliament, but also had the plans made up on how to distribute his personal wealth to the peasants when the war ended.

In addition to the millions that died outright or in the Gulag, the Soviets also killed twenty thousand priests, monks and bishops, and destroyed five thousand churches and monasteries. The martyrdom of Christians in the Soviet Union was greater than that which occurred in the Roman Empire during the times of Nero and Caligula.

The Bolsheviks under the pretext of an international 'utopia', killed millions of Russians as well as the Tsar and his family, while they indulged themselves with the carriages and jewels of the royal family ..so let's cut out the excuses for the crimes they committed.

Just imagine all the amazing contributions to human progress Russians might have made......if they weren't drunk all the time.

i myself lived it the USSR, i was born there, and i know better. USSR had millions bright sides, including that you did not have to pay for education and healthcare because these were given for totally free, among many other things.

I remember how you all used to stand in line all day to get your "free" stuff, too, sharik. Good times, good times.

It's funny - you talk a lot like the neo-socialist idiots here in America who babble about giving and getting "free" stuff, as if it just fell out of the sky like manna from heaven. . What a hoot.

Just imagine how much better our country would be if "progressives" weren't trying to repeat the mistakes their socialist comrades made in the USSR. :)

Well it was only a matter of time until someone hijacked this thread to engage in anti Israel rants to defocus from the topic.

Stick to the topic please. You want to start an Israel is evil thread go start one.

By the way your contention Russia does not have chemical weapons is absurd.

But hey, you said so, so it must be true right?

You haven't a clue what weapons Russia has or does not have so come on get real don't pose as if you do.

Here is some info on the topic instead of making things up you can't possibly know:

gosh, i never cease to wonder how utterly naive you Westerners are... what you are shown on TV is in fact only those footages that portray the USSR during its worst period, that is, Gorbie times 'perestroika' stint when goods and food stuffs were deliberately kept from getting to shops so that to enrage the people and set them against Communists.

Lots of Russians and other eastern Europeans live in the west. We get plenty of first hand accounts of life under Communism, I know many Russians. How many "westerners" do you know in Russia?

Don't look now, but the Bolsheviks are back and are already in complete control of our Pentagon and Federal Reserve.

And I bet that was before 1989? Are you confused as to why the USSR collapsed? Or are you going to give us the Politburo's excuse?

You could have left it at "Don't look now" and it would have been equally meaningful.

I have been to Russia I saw organized crime, serious wide spread alcoholism, people with mental illness not getting the right help, crumbling infrastructure, racism against Africans, anti-Semitism, homophobia and people not eating properly and getting bullied by police demanding kick-backs. I saw women and children being used as cheap expendable sex toys and bought and sold through syndicates.

So no I am not naïve. I also do not blame Russians as a people for their internal problems nor do I claim to morally judge Russians. My country also has its problems.

II think it is excellent you do not have to pay for education or healthcare.

I also am not naïve about Putin. I believe he could easily kill with his bare hands, is ruthless, extremely intelligent and maybe the most intelligent of all the world leaders at this point and has n intention of letting his grip go on Russia.

I also think because your country has the world's largest sources of oil, natural gas, water, gold, uranium, and other precious metals means it is a probable next world super power.

I would never presume to comment on the terrorism threats in Russia and how its being handled.

I would argue Russia's greatest enemy has always been itself and its inability to nurture a government that treats its own people with respect. Whether its been the Czars, Communist regimes or Putin I just do not see a respect for the common people from its governments. Maybe you do.

I could also spend hours on hours talking about the brilliant musicians, dancers, writers, artisans, scientists from your country. They are all respected by me.

For me Russia is an extremely complex mix of many peoples, cultures, beliefs, some hateful, some tyrannical, some corrupt, some amazing in their creativity and brilliance. Its like your weather. Its so vast and infinite it how it manifests its range of extreme cold to heat its very hard to define.

Your are right, You know more than I would. I appreciate that.

the Russians who live in the West today left Russia exactly because the USSR had been destroyed and the country plunged in the chaos of 1990s, this is why they left actually, not because of being not happy under Communists; for in Soviet heyday everyone was well off; but they keep their mouths shut in the USA now because they want no problems with US authorities and with you ordinary Americans either, because you bigoted by US media hate every thing Soviet and hate those Russians who have dignity to defend their Soviet past.

as for why there' so few Westerners in Russia, there's actually not so few of them living here today, every now and then i encounter Westerners who work in Moscow, and, given the totally bigoted anti-Russian bias in the Western mass media, its a lot.

I see, so all the Russians living here are lying but you are a credible source. Thanks for clearing that up.

'that' what exactly?.. as for myself, i was born 1971, and as concerns education and healthcare, well yes, these are still granted to us Russians for totally free in today's Russia.

no i'm not, are you?.. the USSR did not collapse, it has been destroyed by a certain part of Soviet bureaucrats who wanted to become like Rothshield or Onasis and so on, so they went and grabbed of Soviet people's property to later turn it into all sorts of financial documents through the Western corrupt banks and there corrupt financial schemes.

when?.. that is the key question, because there are three Russias depending on the period you've been here: 1980's or 1990s or 2000s - see the difference before get complacent so hastily.

immigrants is the word, get the idea?.. also there are Russians and 'russians' because if for example you go to Brighton Beach, the Jews you meet there are certainly not Russians although they speak Russian okay.

i do realise you Westerners are so hard done by by your own authorities, that you desire to see other nations as being worse off, and your mass media is of huge help on this to you; but set aside the propaganda you are fed, and get some common sense and logic to see: all coutries are different in each own way, and a country can be worse off only if there's civil war full on within its territory.

The anti Sovietism is coming from the Russians and the Russian Church, who had to suffer and live in fear under a criminal system for seventy years. The Soviet Union was one immense prison imposed on the Russian people by foreigners and traitors. It was Willhelm II who sent in Lenin, and it was Lenin who had strikes in Saint Petersburg so he could stop the distribution of food and disrupt the war effort.

Uh-huh....so apparently western propaganda is responsible for Russia's problems. I'm sure that makes sense if you drink enough cheap vodka.
