You are absolutely right OB .
K the Bee Gee has no sense of irony or general humour and he is not old enough to have any idea of the history of Russian elections .
I could write you a book on how and why and where every election is false but I think we all know how bent the election system is -- except for K the Bee Gee
We have no need to convince ourselves of the self evident .
What will be interesting this time is to see how the Stalinists ( United Russia) cope with the huge loss of vote -- forecast 53% versus 66% at the last election .
What cheating and fraud will occur to try and pull the party , and flagging Putrid himself , back to Gazprom HQ targets ( the true seat of Government) ?

    Dare I say it ?
In the paradise you know as Team GB .
My guess is that we are around 98%- to 99% fair and legal .
There are always individual and small group rogues and Gerrymandering does occur occasionally -- they are hammered in the courts .

But this standard Russian type of bleating is so so demeaning .
Statement : Russia is almost the most corrupt country on the planet . Simple fact
Answer : There is corruption everywhere . You are not perfect . Whine .Bleat . Shout . Cry .Unfair . Propaganda . Blah . Blah . Blah .

We , for example , have occasional cheating as already referred to .
Your cheating is endemic and institutionalised .
    That's the difference

Yes , meeting a savvy outsider who blasts them with facts and perspectives that they have not met or are in denial over , can be very disconcerting .
There are a couple of siiy young lads who write nonsense in this section but others seem fine .
Americans are another matter .Let's say that I can have more intelligent chats with my cat , Lord Benny , than I can with most of them . They simply cannot see the wood for the trees and live in a bubble country with a view of themselves that few anywhere else share .
I find it baffling to see how well their top Universities rank world wide but how abysmally low average standards appear to be .

RUSSIA TAKING A HAMMERING IN OSSETIA
    Fighting From Abroad
RUSSIAN ELECTORAL CHEATING ON A MASSIVE SCALF

Supporters of South Ossetian Presidential Candidate Alla Dzhioyeva Are Attempting to Influence the Situation in Tskhinval From Abroad

VLADIKAVKAZ, Russia/Soslan Kokoev cuts an impressive figure. Tall, broad-shouldered and with dark, rugged and somehow quintessentially Caucasian features, his strong handshake exerts authority all on its own. Here in the capital of North Ossetia, Kokoev commands a small team of activists for the People’s Front of South Ossetia, the driving force behind former presidential candidate Alla Dzhioyeva, whose electoral victory on November 27 was suddenly annulled by the republic’s Supreme Court.
As he sits in the spacious attic of the organization’s local headquarters – a charming two-story, Tsarist-era building on a quiet, leafy street just outside downtown – Kokoev explains why he thinks the elections in South Ossetia are in the midst of being stolen. “We simply want the authorities to recognize the results of the election – we’re not asking for anything illegal,” said Kokoev, who heads the movement’s political council. “[Supporters of Dzhioyeva’s opponent, Anatoly Bibilov] were dancing and drinking champagne just as the exit poll came out, but when they saw the actual vote count they blocked in the Central Election Committee and practically held it hostage for two days.”
Yet from abroad, Kokoev can only do so much. He is based in Vladikavkaz, he said, because the South Ossetian authorities, led by strongman Eduard Kokoity, have opened criminal cases against him and a number of fellow activists – a move, Kokoev said, which bars him from returning home. “I don’t even know what the criminal case is about – no one has informed me,” he said. “I only know that my portrait is hanging in customs control and if I return, they’ll get me.”
As Kokoev spoke late Thursday evening, hundreds of supporters continued to rally through the night in Tskhinval, the South Ossetian capital, as part of a bitter stand-off in the wake of Dhzioyeva’s stripped electoral victory.
The runner-up, Anatoly Bibilov – backed both by Moscow and the current South Ossetian administration – alleges that the vote was unfair. The Dzhioyeva camp, meanwhile, casts the Supreme Court decision as a political machination meant to block her free and fair election and continue the status quo, in which Kokoity and his inner circle allegedly run the region like a personal fiefdom.
Kokoev alleges that the regime has robbed the republic of the estimated $1 billion that was poured into the region by Moscow to rebuild the area after its war with Georgia in 2008. Kokoity, he said, has pocketed much of the cash and spread the rest of the wealth among his own loyalists, some of whom he said reach far up into the Kremlin hierarchy. “They’ve done nothing but steal,” he said. “They are squeezing all the life out the republic. It’s like they’re spitting on the people.”
As the opposition continues to rally in the South Ossetian capital, it’s seems clear that the movement is becoming a broader push for freedom in a republic that has long been considered authoritarian. Kokoev and his team have been working overtime throughout the past few days, providing moral and logistical support for their peers in Tskhinval. He said they are urging the protestors to remain calm and to refrain from any violent or provocative actions. “We’re on the phone all the time, telling our kids ‘stay strong and keep your composure – don’t lose your nerves or engage in any provocations,’” he said. “We’ll manage to keep the situation in order.”
Meanwhile, the standoff between the elites in Tskhinval continues, as the Dzhioyeva camp remains in negotiations with the Kokoity administration. After days of seemingly fruitless negotiations, it’s unclear whether the daily meetings, reportedly mediated by a Kremlin representative, will yield any results in the near future.
But Kokoev believes the protests will ultimately prove successful, so long as the authorities don’t resort to any harsh or oppressive tactics. From the seat of his command center in Vladikavkaz – cell phones strewn about wooden tables, young activists constantly updating the organization’s Web site, uasamonga.ru – he seems to exude a sort of confidence he claims is now spreading to the South Ossetian population. “After these elections, the people have seen that they’ve won and they’re so motivated that they are ready to give everything up,” he said. “What we’ve seen in the past few days [in Tskhinval] is only thanks to the strength of our people.”
