Absolutely correct, this is a cultural thing, not a religious one, although some of the ones imposing the restriction may site Islam as the crux of their argument, it is a fallacy. I.e., US Muslims don't have that restriction.
I know... My cousin and her family are Muslim, and they don't have this super strict mindset, and, surprise, they're not evil and have never tried to blow anything up... Weird...
