Ah, you know of Fox too? I have listened to his discussions with Rupert Sheldrake, if this is the same fellow. Sheldrake is a rarity, a scientists with a tremendous sense of humor. I once had the pleasure of meeting him in Ojai, long ago when both of us were young. He had me rolling on the floor with laughter in telling stories of his years at Cambridge and having discussions with other scientists. While Sheldrake was an atheist, early on, he finally saw the benefit of religion and joined the Anglican Church, the church of England. After spending some years in India where he worked on crop yield to feed a starving India in those times. He was attracted to christianity when he wondered why the hindus in india had little sympathy for their starving poor, and their untouchables. He was told by his indian coworkers that these people were poor and suffering due to their own karma, obviously having done something wrong in a past life and getting what they deserved in this life. This reminded him of something about christianity which was different from some other religions, in their caring for the starving, the poor, and saw something very telling in chrisitianity which appealed to his own sense of right and wrong. And this attracted him to the religion of christianity. Being shunned by other academics, apparently he could handle well, due to his tremendous sense of humor, and turning that into something funny.

Many Agnostics and Atheists are Parishioners of the Anglican Church of England.

I do not doubt this. Sheldrake says he loves the rituals and the socialization which he feels adds to his quality of life. And the feeling of having something in common with the congregation. But man is a social animal so that is understandable in our times where face to face communing with other human beings has been replaced by smart phones with no direct contact. And as it with with forums sometimes this brings out the worse in people and invites rudeness and destructive bad manners. Guilty as charged your honor. Although I have never said to anyone here what I would not be willing to say it in a face to face environment. Yet I grew up in a time when tearing down one's ego was common, and served a purpose. It tended to keep egos in check more often than not, as long as you did not indulge in vulgarity and the behavior of a common bully. I once even had a teacher in grade school ask me, who in the world did I think I was? In reference to an ego motivated outburst. Did I think I was special, she asked me? Well, you are no more special than anyone else in this classroom. This was so common in the years in which I grew up. These days, you must soothe egos, and everyone wins a prize. I have found out that this idea of telling people that they must love themselves before they can love others as just another way to teach people to be self centered and selfish. Making it socially acceptable. And so few of us need to be told to love ourselves first and foremost, although one has to also admit that some people who self loathe, for mental health reasons should be treated differently.
