Generally speaking yes. But adult content is something where someone who is at least 17 could check out the book for personal reasons, for research, or whatever. But adult content would be something like certain Japanese Anime books, or books with nudity in theme, or magazines with nudity in them, etc.

    How are LGBTQ themes problematic?

It is The reason why these books are banned, because of the vagueness of the law, among other things. It is also why books with racial, multicultural, and other themes are being banned in school even though none of the books depict "porn." Or in other words, what social conservatives are literally wanting to do is ban books that do not meet their criteria, such as not teaching about dinosaurs or evolution because "it is not in the Bible" argument.
Yes, correct. I never claimed that all books that have been banned across the US have been porn. I am simply highlighting 'porn' because it is the worst example, in order to see if any liberals can bring themselves to say that SOME books should be banned.
And yet books that don't have porn in them are being banned, supported by socially conservative chaps who want to impose their moral values onto others who may or may not agree with them. If we deal strictly with porn, then we would have an honest debate, but now any LGBTQ is considered "porn" even though it does not meet the definition as such, generally.

Name a book that does that. Second, CRT does not teach that at all. We really do not teach anything that uses CRT. It is a graduate level class, usually in law school. It is just the punching bag, the boogeyman, for the right on something to blame. But if you try to define CRT, no one has a universal definition of what CRT is. And that is the whole problem of this debate.

So, based on the Wikipedia page, teaching evolution in science is "indoctrination?" Or if we teach the 1776 project to kids on US history, isn't that indoctrination based on the definition you are using?

the way you typed certain words where you use the "s" instead of the "z" in certain words.

Yes, it does. We also ignore history, the bad part. We will either whitewash the history, ignore the history, etc. It is rare in US history to talk about the US-Philippine War, or for a short time, the US was a colonial power and tried to act like our European counterparts from 1898 to the 1930s. Some sitll think the Alamo was fought for freedom. No, it was not. The original reason was to get Mexico to get back to the Mexican Constitution of 1824, which allowed some form of slavery if you brought them in as a intial land owner, but you also had to promise to swear loyalty to Mexico and convert to Catholicism. And they still teach that David Crocket died fighting to his last breadth, much like the John Wayne movie the Alamo. But there is documentation now that he surrendered and was executed. Finally, most who fought at the Alamo were Mexican Citzens, including the majority of Anglos. But the history books call them Americans. No they were not. They were Mexican citizens.

It is those moral and religious values that people are imposing in which the book bans are in place. And yes, the parents are the ones who are doing this for the most part.

It's biology, and it is also natural. We Americans have a shyness teaching about what is natural in nature, even among humans. Like in the movie Grease 2, the song "Reproduction" shows just how awkward it is. When I took physiology in HS, we learned about this and this was a private, religious high school. So when we learned what this was, we did it from a scientfic point of view and then emphasized that sex should be between married individuals. I guess the good news was we learned sexual reproduction towards the end of the year before the summer and HS graduation.

Name a book that teaches that. None of the books on the list being banned by Florida teach that at all.

What porn in school libraries? Second, obscene or pornographic books are well within the first amendment rights. And third, books that have adult content are not porn books to begin with.

School libraries are a valuable resource for students who want to read on their own or a resource in which they have source materials for any paper that they are required to write. Limiting the books based on archaic, political motivated definitions will definely make students less inclined to read, and less educated than their world counterparts, bar none.

It happened several times when DeSantis was asked and couldn't have a response or gave a response that did not meet the definition of what he was claiming. This was apparent when he tried to ban math books on CRT and his own Department of Education could not point that out to anyone.

Because it is natural, it is part of the human experience, but we don't like to talk about it, if at all. And that's the problem when it comes to sexual education. That has to be taught in the proper way because most of the time, parents don't want to talk about it for one reason or another to their child and they generally get it wrong most of the time.

Based on your definition, you have just described pornography to the following:
    • National Geographic
    • The Bible specifically the book of Solomon
    • Any biology or Physiology book,
    • Any science book that shows reproduction, whether it is with humans or animals.
I think you have the incorrect definition here. And it can be used with LGBTQ, which is not a sexual issue at all, generally. It is a social issue. You definition can also be applied to race and racial inequality, or multiculturalism, and so forth. You need a tighter, more precise definition.

    Yes, see above.

People can get aroused watching anything that has sex in it, That is human nature. The more we confront it and talk about it, the less likely a person can be aroused by it, human or not.

Except most evangelical Christians don't think like that. They do not believe the book of Solomon is sexually explicit because it is rarely taught in Church or in Sunday school. Most Christians do not even know the book exists in the Bible, unfortunately.

You may want to look at your overall definition again. As I said, you need a tighter definition of what pornography is.

This should all be decided and managed by educational professionals: teachers. Democratically. Then if parents want to object to something, they should be required to first READ the book and prove it by taking a short test, and then vote democratically on it. This can be done in the same way proven to be safe and secure for voting - by mail.

Books like the one which depicts a group of boys masturbating together.

    Sure. What's your point?

Depends what you mean by "adult content." Not all adult content is porn, but all porn is adult content.

So then why are you okay with banning certain books from primary school libraries? You're being totally inconsistent here.

    During which event?

Aside from the fact that you did not present any educational benefit of reading about boys masturbating together, you're saying that it is natural, and part of the human experience for boys to masturbate together? Wow, your childhood must have been pretty interesting! :roflol:

And what is the "proper way"?

So what's YOUR definition of "pornography?"

People can't read it at home? They need to hear it taught in church?

What does this have to do with whether or not national geographic magazines are banned in Florida. Are they or not?

Ok, and what about NOT generally speaking?

Since when were high schoolers no younger than 17?

Transgender ideology. Parents don't want their little boy saying that he's a girl.

What is the law, if not moral values being imposed on society?

Which people consider any LGBTQ book "porn?" And can you support that claim?

It's a hypothetical book. Would you be okay with such a book in a school library?

Well like I said, by that definition, anything taught in an educational institution is indoctrination, as it describes indoctrination as "the process of inculcating a person with ideas, attitudes, cognitive strategies or professional methodologies."

Yeah, I use 'British English.' And it seems that you are under the impression that British English is exclusively used in Britain.

No, I mean more generally. Do you acknowledge that non-religious parents may want to impose their moral values onto others through the state legislature and school boards?

A group of boys masturbating with each other is "natural?"

What if the vast majority of parents DO NOT want schools to have sex ed classes?

You have now made it clear that in a situation where the vast majority of parents DO NOT want schools to have sex ed classes, you think that there should not be sex ed classes.I am actually inclined to disagree with that, and say that the State should be able to impose what it wants in the syllabus.

You seemed to dodge by just saying "highly unlikely." And you already referred to your
'majority of parents' standard. So then confirm: What if the vast majority of parents DO NOT want schools to have sex ed classes? Should sex ed be taught?

When I was about 10 or 11 I was excited to read a great adventure style story by a wonderful American writer called Mark Twain.
It was of course Tom Sawyer.
As a result I eagerly moved on to the masterpiece that is Huckleberry Finn.
I would say that book was the best eye opener I could ever have had into racism and oppression generally, and in America in particular.
There are some who say it should be banned because of the use of the ‘N’ word, but for me it established in my consciousness a lifelong hatred of racists and made me ‘woke’ in the true sense of the word (as in woke means anti racist)as attested to by Leadbelly in response to the Scottsboro Boys nightmare.

The state government sets the curriculum. You'll have to vote out the state government.

So then why did you refer to your 'majority of parents' standard?

Don't you have anything better to do than quibble? I said I thought parents who don't want their kids taking sex ed should be able to have their kids excused. Frankly, I think they're uptight and rather absurd, but I'm not pushing my values on others.

The state almost always says schools must offer sex ed regardless of what parents in a school want and will allow parents to hold their own kid out.

Well, why don't we start with some things we can all agree shouldn't be in taxpayer funded school libraries: the Anarchist Cookbook and the screenplay for Caligula. How far do we take it?

Such is their commitment to anti-conservatism. They are just so unbelievably TRIGGERED by guys like DeSantis! :roflol:

Maybe, but I doubt it! Being publicly anti-conservative is more important than being publicly sensible apparently.
