We've all seen these pathetic little golf carts roaming the streets. We've all pointed and laughed. But there is a new way to get kicks on a Saturday night; an idea borrowed from our rural friends but it has a very entertaining urban application. It's the newest rage! It's Smart Car Tipping!

Found these too. Smart cars aren't so smart after all. Or safe.

    I will admit...

That's funny as heck. Though to be serious, that's pretty sad that people would do something like that. The damages could cost hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars.

Good on you saintmichael. I thought you were just a boring Christian conservative, now I see that you are very hip and with-it. Destroying someone else's property is just hilarious.

Apparently laughing at car wrecks that look like people might have died in is hilarious too. Can you find some pictures with blood in them? That would be even funnier, I'm sure.

Well clearly there is only one alternative to the smart car:

Yep apparently having a stupidly large truck for no reason at all is much more intelligent than driving a practical fuel efficient car. The very thought justifies vandalism , destruction of private property and apparently death.
Good for you SaintMichael..I'll bet you make biblethumpin social conservatives everywhere very proud that you claim to be one of them.

No one is "laughing" at the car wrecks. They are illustrating the danger of light weight, fuel efficient automobiles in a country full of tractor trailer rigs and big trucks.

I drive around in a 1 ton steel box called a van and I wouldn't trade that security for anything.

I don't get why vandalsim is funny.

Obviously those smart cars aren't safe, so I'm glad you posted the pictures that showed how dangerous they can be. But I just don't get the humor of vandalsim. A good christian would not laugh at someone being vandalized.

Obviously better to use a completely self oriented gas guzzling environment destroyer which will kill other people in any accident.

Bull bars are illegal on 4 wheel drive vehicles here though, so that is a start on restricting morons.

It's not a new idea to criminally interfere with the property of others and as one whose motorcycle was interfered with repeatedly by an alcoholic neighbour (father of 4 kids too), I don't find it funny.

And also the sadly missed Reliant Robin 3-wheeler ...which young people lifted and moved for years (not damage, just lifted and moved to another parking space round the corner for a laugh). You could also roll a Reliant over in the snow, with a handbrake turn (yes, my mate had an ancient purple one :-D)

I want a Smart Car. They're very nippy and the little open top one is cute. My reservation is motorway driving, though I see them on the motorway every day. But we could use the other car for that and keep the Smart car for local (you can see it's being discussed here...)

Nothing wrong with a small and efficient car, if it's appropriate for the use you are putting it too (just nipping around town, and so on). I don't see any point in having a large 4WD just to drive 5 minutes down the road to take the kids to school, as many people have them (which, since tax is set to discourage that in the UK, directly causes big problems for those people, in rural areas in particular, who actually need them).

The line should be drawn before smart cars, though - sorry, but they are just stupid little things (and horrendously over-priced for what they are, too). I don't advocate vandalism of them, though - it should be damaging enough for the owners to know they are being laughed at! Howwever, there is a serious issue about safety with them - crumple zones aren't much good if there just isn't enough car to crumple to soak up an impact. For a small, round-town car I'd stick to things like the Corsa, Micra (which I have owned previously - very much underrated vehicle that is small and nippy as hell, handles well, and is great fun to sling around windy roads), Jazz, etc. - the Smart car is just an over-priced gimmick.

    As for the Robin......:

I drove a Landrover for 10 yrs, btw. It taught me to drive safely, I will say that for it. Apart from that, it was good fun if bouncy and you could fit 6 kids and two large dogs in with a lot of laughing:-D.

But drove one down to Manchester about a month ago and it is no good once you're in the city. Big lumps.

The other plus about them is the all weather driving. Last year both of our cars had problems in the snow. You didn't have that with a Landrover. We used to look for snow and flooding...we loved flooding..

You wouldn't have thought it would be difficult for them to work out while they were setting up the different duty rates to discourage pollution and guzzling...that some people actually have a legitimate need to use 4wd. But there you go...

How did my husband get in here:omg:

Hahaha...brings back teen memories. But you could drive the Robin with a motorcycle licence. That is maybe why young people bought them.

There was another thing called a Messerschmidt. My Dad's friend had two of them lying all over his driveway. The guy was 6ft 5 and used to stick his arms out either side of it...

Re The Clarkson clip. The Robin was heavily modified with huge off-centre weights added to Clarkson's massive ego to make it so unstable.

I thought the thread was pretty funny. I thought it amusing that St Mike thought this was a political belief and/or opinion.
