About time someone does something. The 2 month delay was a chicken sheet move by the senate. They should all be fired.
Do the job and do it correctly or get out.

You mean the top 1% and all those people making over $250,000 a year only pay it on the first $112,000? Which means a payroll tax increase means absolutely squat to them? Do Conservatives know that?

You didn't know SS is capped? The amount of payout is also capped.

Run that bad boy through my backyard. I'll take that 99 year lease @ $300 a month.

Thanks! That point got completely by me!

One thing, though - I guess the top 1% DOES pay more taxes on their yachts and Ferraris than a minimum wage worker pays on his junker car. Unless, of course, they buy them as corporate or business expenses and then they don't have to pay any taxes at all.

Liberal complaining about George W Bush during the Bush years...... STOP THE PRESSES!!!!!

It would be newsworthy if you kept up that same complaining when Obama took over and started borrowing billions from the Chinese to fund the wars. I bet you didn't do that, though, did'ja?

So what? We're not an equal results society. Some people have more talents, wisdom, and ability to make money than other people. Our economy runs on that idea. Deal with it!

Did you spend your entire career in the public sector, by any chance?

You're right - I should have said "Republicans and Democrats" because I'm sure it's true. But the fact they're BOTH doing it still isn't a good reason to push it through without an informed vote.

Emotionally driven class warfare rhetoric. Nothing more. This is what passes for liberal arguments, these days.

If you work (very big if for liberals), is your employer a poor person?

This turn of events adds credibility to my theory that those who said they would gladly volunteer themselves for higher taxes, just as long as the rich get fleeced in the process, are full of (*)(*)(*)(*). Liberals stop rooting for tax increases as soon as it hits them, personally. They are hypocrites.

    Agreed.

By the way, for the record the Republicans wanted a long term fix, not this 2 week joke that the Democrats put out. It is the Democrats that refuse to actually fix the problem. They left town while the Republicans stay and ask to solve the problem. Barack Obama is sunning himself on his $4,000,000 vacation in Hawaii. Enjoy the sun Barack, try not to get burned.

This is the hard reality of the situation. Obama ran up the highest debt to revenue ratio of any peace time 1st world nation in recorded history, yes it even edges out Japan. The debt needs to be paid and even if the wealthiest companies and individuals were taxed 100% it would not come close to being able to pay this massive debt. The majority of people who contibute to the GPD in the US are middle to lower income and they in the end were always the ones who would have to pay for this spending. There is a difference between popular solutions and realistic solutions unforutantely.

Here's all the information you need. Either we buy the oil or China does. If we buy it we get 20,000 jobs with the deal. Permanent jobs. They can route the pipeline around that aquifer. Or have you never even thought about that idea?

All in All the increase is a good thing for the USA, the higher tax will bring in more revenue on those who do have a job and can afford it. Let's face it, the citizens of the USA have been living high on the hog for the past 12 years of low taxes. Hell, tax Standard Deductions of over $5000 for the past 10 years, that is rediculous. Prior to Booshh the Standard deduction was around $3000 and capital gains tax was at a record 27%. And the USA was booming. Hell I was happy to pay taxes with all the money I was making on investments. And so was the Arabs and Chinese.

What can one do with $2000 a year? buy crap they don't need and take out loans they can't pay back, that's what. Come on Buck up America, you can deal with $1000 less per year. If you can't just go live with your parent's.

Don't you all get it: the politicans in congress are playing dog and pony show. they all want the tax cuts to expire without taking the blame. They enginered it so that the left will think the dems created the new plan to help them, and the right will think the repubs blocked it to make it last longer.

I put money down that the payroll tax cut expires and both parties can walk away pointing the finger at eachother, satisfying their base. But in reality it will help the USA as a whole, and it will help the USA government pay off the debt.

Go ask Slick Willie Clinton on how that works. My how I miss the boom years of Clinton.

I think we need a tax increase too =P Government needs the monies, now we just need to make sure it's going to the right place. I am not really a Republican but if Obama wants to get some money he should make the unpopular decision of raising taxes and cutting spending (actually cutting it, not just limiting growth of the budget). People keep saying cut defense but in reality US government has been cutting defense since the 60s while increasing SS and Medicare.

I kind of like the idea of national sales tax, then all the people who don't work (or work illegally) would be paying taxes too (drug dealers, illegals, prostitutes, etc.) That's more fair! And you can't say people wouldn't be able to feed themselves because obviously there would be exceptions for essentials.

As for the pipeline...can someone explain to me why it is relevant (and included) in this legislation...?

Correct, they should leave the spending on military manpower and support alone, but cut defense contracts that have been ripping off the taxpayer for the past 12 years. Sales taxes should be left to States to adjust IMO not the Federal government. If states want they can raise sales tax to almost 10% like CA and let the citizens of CA decide if they want to pay or move to VT or other states where the sales tax is under 3%.

Obma put a proposal for a $4trillion cut but Boner and the republicns refused it. And now those clowns can't come up with a plan to cut spending. Their best attempt was to cut $2.4 trillion in 20 years. that is crazy. with that mentality and ideology, in 20 years we will have a larger deficit of over $28 trillion based on what they spend. These Washington Political idiots all need to be voted out.

Hmm well I learned that the biggest revenue for States is property taxes so I kind of assumed sales taxes weren't helping too much. Delaware doesn't even have a sales tax! OR what if we raised taxes on luxury items? Like fancy cars, yachts, etc. I would also encourage raising taxes on pop, fast food, etc. They already have sin or vice taxes for titty bars, alcohol, and cigs so the whole "government needing to stay out of people's choices" point is moot.

As for cutting the budget, that's ridiculous!! I wonder how much money we could save if government just switched to zero-based budgeting and assessed where all the money is going. I was under the impression that all the governmental agencies send in requests for money (which will always be greater than the previous year b/c no one will ask for less, just spend their surplus) to the OMB then Obama looks it over and pretty much approves the budget. Seems like we need a bit more...investigation into how and where this money is being spent.

I agree with the Republicans on this. A 2 month extension....BIG DEAL!!! That's not what businesses and ordinary Americans want. They want someone more long-term. Dragging this crap out by extending it only 2 months only prolongs economic uncertainty. Get off your lazy asses and extend it a freaking year!

Meanwhile Boehner is urging Senate Democrats to come back to the negotiating table, while Reid and Company threaten to not come back until after the New Year, when the taxes go into effect. Their reasoning? "Republicans will get more of the blame." Thanks Democrats! You have showed you are more willing to win elections than you are to do what's right for the American people.

Why not vote on extension only? Republicans just shoot themselves in a foot and didn't even realize it. Everybody wants that extension except republicans who think that it makes sense to shoot down 2 month extension in order to extend it for a year.

The funny part is watching Boner beg for the Senate to come back and there's nobody there. They all left. He literally has nobody to negotiate with. It's either pass the bi-partisan extension or take all the blame.

    He totally got Obama'd. :-D

Normally when a politician wants to bankrupt Social Security and throw granny and grandpa over a cliff libs object.

However in this case it is Der Furher who is doing it and they are all for the idea.

But since the lib news media keeps telling them it's OK I guess they have become a little confused lately.
